  • WWE Superstars results (12/05): Former NXT champs Neville & Bo Dallas main event.

    The Big Takeaway: Zack Ryder beat Heath Slater in a short opener and Neville and Dallas showed glimpses of their old rivalry from NXT in a solid main event.

    Zack Ryder beat Heath Slater (4:37)

    Ryder looks in such great shape, you have to feel for the guy: he works pretty well, he’s over, if they let him be, and he has a good physique and genetics. They lock up and Slater shoves Ryder off only to turn round and eat a drop kick. Ryder shoulder barges Slater, but a hip toss is blocked and instead he is clotheslined. Slater then runs into Ryder’s boot and after a leapfrog, Ryder gets nailed by the big boot of Slater.

    Slater takes over with knees and stomps and slows things down with a chin lock. When Ryder works his way out, he runs into a heel kick. Slater then chokes Ryder out in the corner with his foot and then returns to the chin lock. Ryder tries to work his way out but is thrown back to the mat. Slater’s suplex attempt is reversed and he runs into Ryder’s knees in the corner. Ryder hits him with a second rope missile drop kick, followed by a running forearm smash. He sets up and hits the Broski Boot but Slater kicks out at two. So, the Rough Ryder wins it for Zack Ryder.

    Neville beat Bo Dallas (8:10)

    Dallas and Neville are travel partners. Some would say that they’re odd bedfellows in many respects but after their NXT rivalry, they found each other to be very good company. They are both hoping that on the main roster that their rivalry can be reignited at some point. Clearly, that’s not the case here, but they really worked hard to show us a little bit of what made their program on NXT special.

    On the bell, Dallas shoulder barges Neville to mat and exclaims, ‘Bo-lieve!’ to some good heat. Neville responds with a leg sweep and takes Dallas to all four corners in turn to deliver kicks to his midriff. Neville then snapmares him into a basement drop kick to the back of his head. When Neville springboard cross bodies Dallas, Bo calls for a time out. Dallas plays possum and grabs Neville and throws him outside as we head to a break.

    When we return Dallas uses a cravat for some time on Neville. He wears him down for a two count and then off the ropes hits Neville with a huge forearm smash, but again can only get a two count. Neville gets in some kicks, but takes an almighty clothesline for a two count. Neville finally manages to get some breathing space when he dodges Dallas’ charge, sending him over the top rope to the outside. Neville uses a springboard moonsault on to Dallas on the outside and then rolls him back inside for the Red Arrow. Dallas has the move scouted, so Neville lands on his feet, turns round and hits him with an enzugiri. Neville then hits the Red Arrow for the win. 

  • WWE Superstars results: strong main event, R-Truth squash match

    The Big Takeaway: Adam Rose continues to lose with this woeful gimmick and The Miz and Zack Ryder, of all people, had a good match in the main event.

    R-Truth beat Adam Rose (3:32)

    Adam Rose came out for a promo. He blamed the WWE universe for blocking his path to fame. He said that in the future everyone would talk about him because he’s going to be “so famous”. This was dull but he got good heat.

    Straight off the bat, Truth tries an O’Conner roll, but Rose kicks out and they exchange arm rings. They chain wrestle until Truth stops Rose in his tracks and gyrates his hips at him. Then he hip tosses him and Rose begs for mercy, going to the ropes. The ref stops things, urging Truth to back off, but Rose takes the opportunity to use a cheap shot and then throws Truth outside and does a running kick on the apron.

    Rose rolls Truth back in and goes for the cover, which only gets a two count. He beats him down with elbows and a chin lock but a backdrop gets Truth out. Rose’s charge to the corner is blocked by Truth’s elbow and then Truth gets the heat with clotheslines, a heel kick, but then he misses a scissors kick. Rose hits Truth with a discus clothesline and covers him for two. Then Truth stays down, playing possum, and after the ref checks on him he pops up and hits Rose with the Lie Detector for the win. What a heel!

    The Miz beat Zack Ryder (7:02)

    I saw Miz live at the house shows on the European tour recently and was really reminded what a great heel he can be, particularly given the right context. He plays The Miz very well. Ryder, meanwhile, was featured on last week’s Breaking Ground where they profiled Mojo Rawley and focused in on the tag teams. He really comes off as a thoughtful and dedicated guy who just desperately wants to play a role that is taken seriously in this company. Anyway, here, these two had a good match.

    Miz takes his glasses off at the bell – I still quite like this spot. Ryder shoulder barges him, so Miz takes a walk. When he slides back in, he uses a shoulder barge of his own and then mocks the ‘Woo’ fist pump. Miz goes for a neckbreaker, but it is broken up by Ryder who hits him with a beautifully timed drop kick, followed by a face plant. Ryder sends Miz over the top rope to the outside and then missile drop kicks him through the ropes. He rolls him back in, but as Ryder is mounting the apron, Miz sends him flying into the announce table. We head to a break.

    Miz is stomping Ryder as we return. When Ryder kicks out of a pin at two, he hits him with elbows. Ryder takes a buckle bump well and Miz does his running corner clothesline. Miz comes off the top with a double axe handle, but is punched in the stomach by Ryder and so they both go down. Ryder then gets some hope with a flying clothesline, but a top rope drop kick is dodged by Miz who hits him with a DDT for two. Then Miz tries for a suplex but it is reversed into a neckbreaker by Ryder for two.

    Ryder then misses the Rough Ryder, Miz misses a charge to the corner and so Ryder goes for the Broski Boot. This is scouted by Miz, who rolls outside. Miz then counters a sunset flip, and holds the ropes while pinning Ryder. The ref spots it and breaks up the pin. Ryder charges and misses a cross body and hits the ropes, so Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale for the win. This was an entirely solid match.

  • WWE Superstars results: Brie vs. Naomi, Bo Dallas loses again

    The Big Takeaway:

    The Divas had a perfectly decent match, with Brie going over against Naomi. Bo Dallas and Titus O’Neil failed to deliver much in the main event.

    Brie Bella (w/Alicia Fox) beat Naomi (w/Tamina) (5:17)

    Its been a few weeks since we’ve had Divas action on Superstars. The Divas revolution has meant that, much to many a dismay, they’ve front-loaded Raw with this sort of stuff. And actually, this wasn’t half bad. They start off with a wristlock exchange. Naomi athletically reverses and takes Brie to her knees. Brie flips out of the hold and uses a fireman’s carry into a wristlock on the mat. She then uses her Daniel Bryan tribute kicks, but finally gets caught by Naomi and is single-legged to the mat.

    Naomi runs into an elbow and then Brie goes up top. Naomi pulls her off and covers her for two. Naomi then takes over with stomps on Brie and uses a guillotine slingshot on the bottom rope into a cover for two. Naomi puts on a rear chin lock and keeps her down with knees to the back. Keeping the lock on, she uses a running bulldog into the turnbuckle but Naomi then misses the split-leg moonsault.

    Brie gets the heat with forearms and clotheslines and goes up to the second rope and hits a missile drop kick. She fights off Tamina, but runs into an enzugiri. Brie uses those Daniel Bryans kicks again but runs into a high knee and gets covered for two. Naomi then misses the Rear View and Brie is able to use the Bella Buster for the win.

    Titus O’Neil (w/Darren Young) beat Bo Dallas (6:05)

    Dallas comes out for a promo. He tells Titus not to be so depressed for being eliminated from the WWE World Championship tournament. Dallas says the WWE Universe thinks he wasted his opportunity and that they think he should have had his spot, telling him to Bo-lieve.

    They lock up and Dallas is thrown off. Then Dallas goes for a headlock, but is again thrown off. Dallas gets in a kick to the gut and capitalizes with clubbing blows and punches to the corner. Titus gets angry and turns things around with huge open palm chops. Dallas goes for a walk, which turns into a victory lap. He runs into Young on the outside and Dallas tells him to move. Young ducks a clothesline and O’Neil rolls out to clobber him with a clothesline of his own. We head to a break.

    O’Neil scoop slams Dallas as we return and then applies a chin lock. Dallas works out but is scoop slammed again. Dallas hits a neckbreaker and then clubs O’Neil to the back of the neck with a running forearm. He clotheslines Titus for two and then puts the rear chin lock back on. O’Neil works his way out and slings Dallas hard into the turnbuckle. O’Neil gets the heat with clotheslines and a big boot. He throws Dallas across the ring and whips up some support from a very receptive and willing crowd and then hits a Stinger Splash. With Dallas in the middle of the ring, O’Neil hits the Clash of the Titus for the win.

  • WWE Superstars results (11/7): Neville relegated to singles action; Bo Dallas gets a rare win.

    The Big Takeaway: Neville beats Slater with his move and Bo Dallas gets a rare win over Zack Ryder in a good main event.

    Neville beat Heath Slater (4:02)

    Watching last week’s Table for 3, it was interesting to see Neville up close. He’s a very low-key guy who loves wrestling and takes great care of himself, but he was clearly pretty sad about not being apart of NXT anymore. And when you see him used like this on Superstars, you can sympathise with him.

    They lock up and Neville takes a shoulder barge to the mat and Slater poses and gyrates his hips. Neville regroups and they start again and this time Neville takes down Slater for a quick cover and then catches him and face plants him into the mat. Neville then flips between the ropes and catches Slater with a diving cross body off the second turn buckle and covers him for two.

    Slater charges Neville into the corner and beats him down. Slater locks in a chin lock and Neville works out into a neckbreaker but he then runs right into Slater’s boot. Slater tries the cover but can only get two and so goes back to the chin lock. This time it is more effective and Neville has to work out with punches. Slater runs into Nevilles boot, who now gets the heat with kicks and an enzugiri which allows him to set up and hit the Red Arrow for the win.

    Bo Dallas beat Zack Ryder (7:54)

    Ryder tries to get the crowd going early but the reaction is tepid. Dallas immediately goes for a roll up at the bell and Ryder kicks out, but that is enough for Dallas to take a victory lap. He goes back into the ring and eats and drop kick and then Ryder uses a headlock takedown for a quick two count. He then flips him with a fireman’s carry into a wrist lock and rings the arm until Dallas uses the ropes to break the hold.

    Dallas goes outside and Ryder hits him through the ropes with a missile drop kick. They go back in the ring but Dallas rolls back outside and plays possum and sweeps Ryder’s legs on the apron. He then side Russian leg sweeps Ryder into the dasher boards. We go to a break as Dallas is in the ring waiting for Ryder to get back up.

    As we return, Ryder is trying to shake off the beating but takes a forearm to the mat. Dallas goes outside and uses a series of forearms to the back of Ryder’s neck. He covers Ryder for two and then puts on a rear chin lock. Ryder fights out but takes a high knee to the jaw and is then able to face plant Dallas to get some space.

    Ryder gets the heat with a flying forearm, gets his knees up as Dallas charges at him and then goes for a missile drop kick off the second rope. Dallas dodges it and Ryder takes a flat back bump and Dallas gets a two count. Dallas uses a neckbreaker but again Ryder kicks out. Dallas is frustrated and yells “come on!” Ryder hits an enzugiri and then sets up and hits the Broski Boot. Dallas rolls outside and Ryder hits him with a drop kick which sends him into the barricade. Ryder goes up top but is crotched and Dallas hits his new finisher, the rope-hung whiplash neckbreaker, for the win. This was very good.

  • WWE Superstars results (10/30): Bo Dallas vs. Fandango, Kalisto vs. Viktor

    The Big Takeaway:

    They mixed up the tag team action by giving Kalisto and Viktor a singles match which freshened things up somewhat. The main event between Bo Dallas and Fandango was pretty entertaining with near falls and false finishes. A good show this week.

    Kalisto beat Viktor (4:13)

    At the bell Viktor uses Kalisto to toss him around. He’s not a big guy which is partly why The Ascension doesn’t work for me; Konnor has much better size for this sort of intimidation gimmick but Viktor is a much smoother worker. A drop kick from Kalisto followed by a springboard arm drag takedown and a springboard headlock takedown makes this match come to life. Viktor rolls outside and Kalisto pounces with a springboard moonsault.

    Back in the ring, Konnor distracts and so Kalisto runs into a high knee. Viktor follows this up with stomps and covers him for a two count. Viktor then uses European uppercuts and Flair chops that the crowd are all over. Then he uses an underhook suplex and a fist drop into another cover for two. Viktor locks on a modified chicken wing hold on the mat. When Kalisto gets out he leaps into action with a springboard arm drag and a headscissors takedown. He then uses his spike rana and goes for a cover but Konnor’s distraction means he gets rolled up for two. Sin Cara then goes at Konnor outside with a senton, and then Kalisto hits Viktor with the SDS for the win. Good short match.

    Fandango beat Bo Dallas (9:20)

    They lock up and Fandango takes the early going with a clothesline, two uppercuts and a chop. I know I always harp on about this, but Bo’s stomach. Its getting worse. He needs a gimmick change because he could be very good. They chain wrestle until Dallas just about runs into a drop kick by Fandango. Dallas then rolls up Fandango for a two count and then goes outside for a victory lap. Fandango scouts it and rolls outside and charges into Fandango who takes a bump as we head to a break.

    When we come back, Fandango suplexes Dallas and covers him for two. Dallas gets a high knee to Fandango and then throws him off the apron into the dasher boards. Fandango sells it and takes an 8 count. When he rolls back Fandango undersells some knees from Dallas and hits him with a neckbreaker. He puts on a rear chin lock and when Dallas gets out, out of the whip, Fandango takes a knee to the stomach.

    Fandango throws Dallas through the ropes and he clips his chin on the bottom rope on the way out. He looks dazed and the ref counts to 8. He rolls back in and is immediately set upon by Fandango with an atomic drop, three clotheslines and scoop slam a la Randy Orton. Fandango covers him but can only get two, so he goes up to the top rope to set up for the Last Dance but Dallas blocks it and they tease the superplex.

    Fandango fights Dallas off and leaves him draped over the ropes and hits the Last Dance. This was pretty creative and looked good. Fandango gets the near fall and then uses a side Russian leg sweep but Bo rolls out under the ropes to the apron, sweeps Fandango’s legs and then comes back in and finishes him with his new finisher – a rope hung whiplash neckbreaker. The last few minutes of this were good. It was encouraging to see them get some time to build to a finish.
