  • WWE announces Roman Reigns underwent surgery

WWE announced that Roman Reigns underwent surgery today in Tampa for a broken nose that was suffered during the brawl with HHH at the end of Raw last night.

Not many details were listed in the story at WWE.com.

No time frame was listed for a recovery and the story was far more vague than most stories regarding top talent undergoing surgery are.  Given the timing and nature of the attack, this could be storyline related but we will update shortly.

HHH destroyed Reigns at the end of Raw, smashing his head repeatedly into the announce table until Reigns came up covered in blood.  There are videos online that appear to show Reigns being handed a blood packet by Byron Saxton during the HHH beating, which if accurate would suggest the injury is storyline.

Reigns vs. HHH for the WWE World Heavyweight Title is expected to headline this year’s WrestleMania, following Reigns winning a three-way over Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose at the WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view on Sunday night.

  • CM Punk UFC debut delayed due to back surgery

CM Punk (real name Phil Brooks) will undergo back surgery on Wednesday in Chicago, delaying his UFC debut indefinitely.

According to what Brooks told MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani, the injury is a lingering issue from his pro wrestling days that has worsened in recent months. The recovery time will be 4-6 weeks, and he’s still planning on debuting at some point in 2016.

The timing couldn’t be worse as his opponent was just confirmed last Saturday at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas after Mickey Gall took less than a minute to defeat Mike Jackson to earn the shot. An exact date was not announced at the time, but he was to face Gall at an undetermined UFC PPV, assumed to be in June or July. Unfortunately, he found out about needing surgery just hours before Gall fought Jackson.

Punk has already had one injury setback when a shoulder injury last August delayed his training.

  • WWE: update on William Regal after second neck surgery

WWE NXT GM William Regal underwent a second neck operation Wednesday after results of a CAT scan six weeks ago showed more damage to the back of his neck that needed to be taken care of as soon as possible.

Regal had surgery on four different vertebrae, C-3, C-4, C-5 and C-6, to clean out calcium deposits, performed in Pittsburgh under Dr. Joseph Maroon. The surgery differed from his 2014 fusion surgery that went in the front of the neck.

In an interview with WWE.com, he noted being glad he got checked because he was feeling better than he had in decades and was expecting to get back into ring, at least when it came to training the NXT talent. Regal said he’ll be recovered well enough by December to travel with the NXT crew for the tour of the U.K.  He would not be able to wrestle on that tour, but that was never in the plans to begin with.
