  • Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton confirmed for WWE SummerSlam

While the Smackdown show airing tonight in Canada made no mention of Brock Lesnar at all (after Raw had advertised Lesnar’s opponent being announced on the show) Randy Orton was finally announced as Lesnar’s SummerSlam opponent during the Aftermath show that airs on Canada’s Sportsnet channel.

It is not clear if WWE failed to put the Lesnar announcement on the Canadian version of Smackdown show in fear it would break before airing in the U.S., or there was a change in plans.

Orton had been the expected opponent for Lesnar as noted on Wrestling Observer Radio Monday night.

The two started together in OVW, but have never had a major program in WWE.

Of course, this is all dependent on Lesnar’s health coming out of UFC 200 where he and Mark Hunt have been moved to the main event as Jon Jones was pulled from the show due to an potential USADA anti-doping violation. You can get more on that breaking news story here.

We’ll have more on this very busy newsday in combat sports on tonight’s Wrestling Observer Radio for subscribers.

  • Wrestling Weekly: WWE Injuries; Schedule or Style?

Just how much has the injury bug that’s bitten WWE in recent years been a result of the schedule?  That’s the main topic of discussion on Wrestling Weekly!  Les and Vic will start the show with some sad news about Danny Miller, who is a longtime friend and former tag team partner with Les.  After some quick talk about Roderick Strong and Zack Sabre Jr.(4:25) and the very few things that went well on Raw this week, (6:47) we’ll take a look at Dave Meltzer’s article in the new Observer regarding how many of the guys who work the most matches in WWE in recent years have suffered significant injuries the following year (13:41).  Is it the schedule?  Is it the style?  Or is there something that has to do with one of those things that may not be talked about often enough?  After that, we’ll open the mailbag and answer questions about Vader (40:09), adding talent to the WWE main roster for the brand split(44:00), Randy Orton being a bully (47:09), guys who didn’t speak great English during the territory days but got over big anyway (50:50), promotions that had split crews years ago (53:41), and whatever happened to the elbow drop (56:44)?  Thanks for listening and have a great weekend~!

  • WWE News: Dislocated shoulder keeps Randy Orton out of Hell In A Cell

Randy Orton missed this past weekend’s WWE house shows in Mexico and was not on Raw Monday night due to a dislocated shoulder. The extent of the injury is not yet certain pending the results of an MRI, and when he can return will be determined on whether if he needs or doesn’t need surgery.

On television, they noted Orton was not in Mexico and not at Raw, and almost portrayed it as him no-showing. Later in the show, they gave the impression from an interview with Dean Ambrose that the Wyatts had gotten to him.

Orton has a history of shoulder problems from injuries earlier in his career.

The Orton & Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper & Braun Strowman match scheduled for Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV has been canceled, and a six-man tag match with Sheamus & Rusev & King Barrett vs. Neville & Dolph Ziggler & Cesaro was put in its place around the pre-show time.
