  • AJ Styles officially removed from NJPW Tour

New Japan Pro Wrestling today reported that A.J. Styles is officially off the rest of the current tour due to his herniated disc in his lower back.

It was reported in Japan that he has returned home to Gainesville, GA. At the show earlier today in Kobe, the company officially announced him as off the rest of the tour, while up until this point they had been acting as through the injury was a day-to-day thing.

ROH officials are hopeful that Styles will be ready on 12/18 for his title match with Jay Lethal on the Final Battle PPV.

New Japan announced today that Styles would return on 1/4 for his Tokyo Dome match with Shinsuke Nakamura.

New Japan likely had to re-book several B block matches to get to the ending that they wanted.

The final night of the round-robin tournament is tonight in Nagoya which airs live on New Japan World starting at 2 a.m. Eastern time.  We will have live coverage of the show on the site.

The winner of the A block faces the winner of the B block on 12/9 in Sendai.

Currently, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Michael Elgin are “in the clubhouse” finishing with a 4-2 record and in first place in the A block.  Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma face Kazuchika Okada & Yoshi-Hashi with both teams having 3-2 records.  If Okada & Yoshi-Hashi win, then Tanahashi &  Elgin go to the finals since they won the head-to-head match on 11/21 in Tokyo.  If Makabe & Honma win, they go to the finals based on beating Tanahashi & Elgin on 11/27 in Hiroshima.

In the B block, both Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata and Tetsuya Naito & Evil have 4-1 records, and by the strangest of coincidences, they are wrestling tonight. So the winner of that match goes to the finals.

  • Matt Brown injured, drops out of fight against Kelvin Gastelum

UFC lost yet another main event today when Matt Brown said that he suffered an ankle injury and had to pull out of his fight with Kelvin Gastelum that was scheduled to headline UFC’s debut on 11/21 at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Brown vs. Gastelum was to headline an FS 1 show at welterweight.

At this point no replacement has been announced for the show.  Gastelum was considered the main event draw on the show for the Mexican market and Brown was considered his opponent.

The show includes the finals of the current season of TUF Latin America, as well as a Henry Cejudo vs. Jussier Formiga fight that could determine the next flyweight title challenger for Demetrious Johnson.

  • Kota Ibushi out of action indefinitely due to injury

Kota Ibushi, one of the top performers in the world over the past decade, will be out of action indefinitely due to a herniated disc.

Both New Japan and DDT, the two companies he’s under contract two, made the announcement today.  Ibushi missed his weekend DDT shows and the rumor was that he had a serious health issue.  At the press conference, it was announced that even though he won’t be wrestling for a while and his New Japan contract expires in January, that he will be renewed by the company even though he won’t be wrestling soon.

New Japan made the announcement that he would be out of Saturday’s Power Struggle show.  DDT announced he would be out of action “a long time.”

Ibushi & Hiroshi Tanahashi were scheduled to face Kazuchika Okada & Kazushi Sakuraba on Saturday’s show at the Edion Arena in Osaka.  The match was to set up Sakuraba vs. Ibushi, although there were issues with that match taking place given Sakuraba’s MMA fight with Shinya Aoki on 12/27 for Rizin.

A replacement is expected to be announced shortly.  Katsuyori Shibata is not booked on the card so he would make sense.

New Japan announced the complete card for Saturday’s show:

Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask & Ryusuke Taguchi & Mascara Dorada vs. Yohei
Komatsu & Sho Tanaka & David Finlay & Jay White
Togi Makabe & Captain New Japan & Juice Robinson vs. Doc Gallows & Cody

Hiroshi Tanahashi &? vs. Kazushi Sakuraba & Kazuchika Okada

  • WWE: update on William Regal after second neck surgery

WWE NXT GM William Regal underwent a second neck operation Wednesday after results of a CAT scan six weeks ago showed more damage to the back of his neck that needed to be taken care of as soon as possible.

Regal had surgery on four different vertebrae, C-3, C-4, C-5 and C-6, to clean out calcium deposits, performed in Pittsburgh under Dr. Joseph Maroon. The surgery differed from his 2014 fusion surgery that went in the front of the neck.

In an interview with WWE.com, he noted being glad he got checked because he was feeling better than he had in decades and was expecting to get back into ring, at least when it came to training the NXT talent. Regal said he’ll be recovered well enough by December to travel with the NXT crew for the tour of the U.K.  He would not be able to wrestle on that tour, but that was never in the plans to begin with.

  • WWE: Bray Wyatt injured at Bangor, ME, house show

We are awaiting more details on this, but Bray Wyatt suffered a bad hand cut and a head cut in his WWE house show match Saturday night with Roman Reigns in Bangor, ME.

The injuries took place during the match which was stopped while the trainer taped up his hand after it was nailed with a Kendo stick. The hand injury, which was said to be bleeding more than his head, seemed worse than the head injury. The match resumed and Reigns won the match as he does at all the house shows. Doctors came out to inspect both cuts.
