Submitted by Josh Long from Saturday, January 10th

Chris Jericho def. U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio in a non-title match.

JoJo announced to the house that John Cena is out due to a shoulder injury. She informed the crow refunds were available for the next twenty minutes.  Before she could finish Alberto Del Rio interrupted and cut a promo on Cena. Del Rio received heat from the crowd during his promo. He even mentioned pro wrestling.

Chris Jericho interrupted  Alberto to a big pop from the crowd. Lots of Y2J cheers broke out in the audience. ADR started cutting a promo on Jericho, until he took the mic. Jericho said “Welcome to Monroe is Jericho.” Jericho is majorly over with the crowd which is expected considering his resume. During the promo Jericho called Del Rio “Alberto Del Jackass” & said it was Spanish for jackass.

Fast start to the match, Jericho hits DEL RIO with mic and runs him into the corner. Jericho ripped ADR’s shirt off and started chopping him. When the action spilled outside, Jericho wiped his arm pits with the ripped shirt & rubbed it in Del Rio’s face. Rick even had a rubber chicken that Jericho used on Del Rio. Back in the ring, there were a few false finishes for both guys. Del Rio used the outside ropes to apply the cross arm breaker, but the ref broke it up.

More Cody chants break out among the crowd.

Titus gets upper hand early. Stardust needs a break, so he retreats into the crowd. Cody chants start again. Titus slaps Cody on the chest in the corner and the crowd wants him to do it one more time. Titus obliges and sends him into another corner and again another slap on the chest.  Crowd asks for yet another so being the generous guy he is O’Neil gives Stardust another one and sends him into another corner. Stardust rolls out of the ring to escape.

The night started out with the announcer informing the crowd that John Cena is injured and will not be at the show tonight. Alberto Del Rio then interrupted her and made his way to the ring. He talked for a while, the lights go out and Y2J’s music hits. He cuts a promo about Houston wrestling and their fans’ legacy. Jericho challeges Del Rio to a match. Del Rio talks his trash and tries to walk away by chest slapping Jericho. Match begins, back and forth, a little slow at times. Y2J comes out victorious after kicking out of repeated submissions. ADR missed his finisher, Y2J hits the Code Breaker and it’s over.

    – Titus O’Neil beat Stardust

Before the match, crowd starts to chant ‘Cody Rhodes’. Stardust tries to out power Titus with chest chops but that didn’t work.  Stardust attacks the leg of Titus. Stardust goes for top rope move, but Titus catches and tosses him. Titus hits a boot to the head, setting up the train to the corner. Stardust stumbles out of the corner into the finishing move and that’s a three count for Titus.

    – Ryback def. Rusev (w/Lana)

Pre-match promo with Lana talking trash about Houston sports and says the Dallas Cowboys are better than all of Houston. Lana claims Rusev will be next Heavyweight Champion. Rusev snatches the mic and claims that he hates American football, but if he had a team, it would be the Dallas Cowboys. Ryback’s music hits to a large pop. Strength vs. strength early. Cheap shot by Rusev when tied in the ropes when Ryback tries to break cleanly. Rusev gains upper hand. Rusev antagonizing the crowd by waving flag.  Rusev hands flag off to Lana and walks into a belly to belly suplex. Each trying to suplex the other back and forth with a show of strength. Finally Ryback tosses him up and over. Ryback sets up for Meat Hook and hits it.  He attempts a shell shock but Lana jumps on apron.  Distraction worked, and Rusev takes advantage by kicking him in the head. He locks the submission on Ryback, but fights through it. Rusev goes for the splash and misses. Ryback pops up, hits a power bomb and the big guy gets the pin.

    – R-Truth def. Heath Slater

Dance off before the match until Slater cheapshots Truth. Action on the outside. Slater tries for the pin and grabs the middle rope for leverage, but ref breaks it up. That leads to Truth rolling him up for the pin.

    – Los Matadores vs. Kalisto and El Torito

Crowd going nuts for Kalisto. Matadores want Torito in there, and he puts on a show for the crowd. Matadores get the upper hand and beat up Torito. Kalisto finally gets tagged in and runs wild. Kalisto hit his finisher for the pin and win.

    – Sheamus vs. Brock Lesnar (w/Paul Heyman)

Both are in the ring for intros. Paul takes mic from the ring announcer and begins to introduce Lesnar. They tie up and Lesnar hits a belly to back as the crowd chants “Suplex City.” Sheamus retreats. A few uppercuts from Sheamus, he reverses to the corner, Lesnar stops and pounds him, hitting a suplex on Sheamus. Action spills outside and Lesnar is thrown into the stairs and then back in. – Kevin Owens does a video promo challenging Dean Ambrose later on in the night. The ring announcer explains it will be a street fight.

    – Brie Bella vs. Tamina (w/Alicia Fox) with Summer Rae as special ref

Very slow match. The end came when Tamina and Summer were getting into it and Brie hit a suplex to get the win. Usual “We want Sasha” chants.

    – Video promo by Ambrose accepting Owens’ challenge.

    – Tyler Breeze vs. Dolph Ziggler

Tyler was using the selfie stick, but it freezes up a couple of times on the big screen, then we get an error for ‘poor connection’. The crowd laughed. Usual good match with plenty of offense from both guys. Several near falls back and forth near the end. Breeze was thrown into the ropes and Ziggler hit a superkick to end it.

    – IC Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens street fight

Ambrose enters with kendo sticks in each hand. Fight starts off both men outside of the ring beating on another. Action spilled outside the ring and back into the ring and back outside several times. Lots of chair shows and a “we want tables” chant breaks out. Ambrose goes for the table, but Owens rolls him up for two to prevent it. Eventually, Ambrose set the table up, but got powerbombed through it. Owens goes for the pop-up powerbomb and Ambrose countered it by flipping Owens over. Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on the shattered table for the clean win.

  • WWE Toronto house show results: John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio

    Submitted by Ian Carey

    Neville beat Miz

Miz did the old Rick Rude “What I’d like to have right now is for all you, fat, something, out of shape Toronto sweat hogs… keep the noise down…yadda yadda… while I take off my glasses”. Neville won with the red arrow.  Actually a pretty fun match.

The Ascension and Stardust vs the Hype Bros and Titus O’Neil

Titus pinned Viktor with the Clash of the Titus.  A few scattered NXT chants.

    Big Show vs Mark Henry

Big Show won with a KO punch and Henry had to be helped to the back.  Show stalled a lot at the start of the match.

WWE I-C Champion Dean Ambrose vs Kevin Owens

Kids all cheered Ambrose but a lot of cheers from the adults for Owens.  Owens got some cheap heat for saying Quebec is better than Ontario.  Ambrose won with the Dirty Deeds.

    Intermission

Divas Champion Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch

Charlotte played it up like she was doing a “Divas Open Challenge” then she couldn’t understand why Becky came out.  They had a match, and Charlotte won clean with the Natural Selection.

The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper, Braun Strowman, Erick Rowan) vs the Usos and Goldust

Crowd chanted “Take a shower” at Harper, and he played that up pretty nice.  This was a very PG show, which was fun to take little kids to.  One of the Usos pinned Harper.

John Cena beat U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio by DQ

Del Rio wore long silvery pants.  Lots of near-falls, a ref bump, Del Rio using a chair, etc. ADR got DQ’d for a low blod. Cena got the last laugh, the kids all cheered, I spent $60 on Cena t-shirts and for the first time in over a decade actually cheered for the guy. Kids really LOVE Cena.

It was actually pretty fun.  I hadn’t gone to a house show since I was a teenager, but it was fun to go with kids.

  • WWE Providence, RI, house show results: John Cena vs. Alberto del Rio

    By Greg Watson

    – Neville beat The Miz

    – Hype Bros beat The Ascension

    – Kane beat Bray Wyatt

    – Ryback beat Rusev

    – Big Show beat Mark Henry

    – WWE Divas Champion Charlotte retained the belt in a triple threat against Paige and Becky Lynch

    – John Cena defeated U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio by DQ after Del Rio low blowed him. There was a spot where the ref got taken out. This caused Rusev to interfere in this match, but Cena took him out.

  • WWE 12/6 Florence, SC, house show results: Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens

    Submitted by Brian Shaw

    – Neville def. Heath Slater

Fun match.  Scary moment early when Slater tipped Neville over the top rope and he landed on his head on the apron.  Neville hit the springboard moonsault to the outside and won with the Red Arrow, which the crowd loved.

    – Braun Strowman & Erick Rowan def. Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow

Crowd was into Wyatt Family, doing firefly entrance.  Wyatts came out to nothing but spooky low wind sounds, no music.  Crowd cheered some for Sandow but not Axel.  Strowman got his submission on Axel for an instant tapout.

    – Dolph Ziggler def. Tyler Breeze w/ Summer Rae

Match of the night.  One weird thing: Delphi’s hair was dry and therefore looked strange.  Dolph & Summer did a very long, very funny version of her scream spot.  Summer was ejected for hitting Dolph with her shoe. Lots of near falls; Dolph kicked out of a Beauty Shot and an Unprettier and Breeze kicked out of multiple superkick/fameasser combos.

    – The Primetime Players def. Los Matadores

Basic tag match, centered early around Titus throwing big open hand slaps to the chest.  One matador took 4-5 slaps and the other took a walk when he tried to make the tag.  After some brawling, Darren & Titus both hit their moves and the ref counted two pins simultaneously.

    – Becky Lynch & NXT Women’s Champion Bayley def. Sasha Banks & Naomi w/ Tamina

Bayley had her air dancers, and as such was the only person on this show with a special entrance. Sasha, Becky, Bayley, & NXT all got chants during this match.  A guy in the front row was dressed as Izzy, so Sasha snatched the the streamers from his arms and used them to mock Bayley’s entrance from the apron. She’s just so great at the little things.  Match was fun, basic stuff; Becky beat Naomi with the DisarmHer after Tamina’s distraction went awry. After the match, Bayley took time to individually wave to everyone she could see with a Hugger shirt.

    – Kane def. Bray Wyatt

Good reactions but nothing special to the match.  Both guys did their spots and Kane won with a chokeslam.

    – Ryback def. Rusev w/ Lana

Rusev had his personalized Bulgarian flag.  Lana still in a dress/braid instead of the power suit/bun.  She cut a promo before the match about her love for Rusev, then sang him “You Are My Sunshine,” which got loud boos.  Crowd was really into Ryback, lots of spontaneous “Feed Me More” chants as he fired up.  They had a good match; Ryback got out of the Accolade and hit Shellshocked for the win.

    – Dean Ambrose def. WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens via DQ

Good reaction for both guys. Ambrose’s was all cheers and Owens’ was mixed, but both loud.  Match was good but not spectacular; Owens was DQ’d for using a chair, which he hilariously argued was too minor an offense for a DQ.  Owens then ate a Dirty Deeds on the chair after the match.

Crowd was energetic all night, much better than the previous show I saw in Greensboro.  Granted, this was a better lineup with something for everyone.

    – In a street fight, “Demon” Kane defeated The Big Show via chokeslam through a table.

    – R-Truth defeated Bo Dallas.

  • WWE Liverpool, England, house show results (11/8): Alberto Del Rio lets loose on a dead crowd

    Submitted by Stephen Lyon

    – Neville beat Stardust in the opener with the Red Arrow. Okay match. Neville got a pop for his finisher.

-Damian Sandow beat Heath Slater in one minute with a roll up. Sandow was back in his old blue robe intellectual gimmick. This was a head scratcher. Either give these guys at least five minutes or don’t do the match at all. Why you would fly these guys to Europe to do a one minute match is baffling.

    – Luke Harper & Braun Strowman & Erick Rowan beat Ryback & the Usos. Decent match. Ryback did impressive standing suplex spots with both Harper and Rowan, but ‘couldn’t do it’ with Strowman, putting over how big Strowman was. Strowman made one of the Usos submit in his sleeper finisher.

    – King Barrett beat Fandango with the Bull Hammer. Crowd cheered Barrett and had no reaction for Fandango. Virtually nobody in the crowd did his dance.

    – Lucha Dragons beat Los Matadores and the Ascension in a triple threat match. Los Matadores came out, clearly as heels (they made fun of El Torito not accompanying them to the ring), yet virtually nobody in the youthful audience picked up on it. The finish saw the song ‘Bad to the Bone’ play out of nowhere (I was having Steve ‘Dr Death’ Williams NWA flashbacks, given it used to be his entrance theme for a period) and El Torito ran out, cleaning house on both Fernando and Diego. Kalisto pinned Viktor with the Salida del Sol. Crowd enjoyed doing the ‘Lucha Lucha’ arm wave.

    – NXT Women’s Champion Bayley & Natalya beat Sasha Banks & Naomi. It seemed like about 10% of the audience knew who Bayley was, and the rest didn’t. There was a very weak NXT chant that didn’t catch on and lasted just a few seconds. The work itself was fine, and amongst the better matches of the night. Banks was funny tying her hair back and mocking Bayley. Finish saw Natalya make Naomi tap in the sharpshooter.

    – U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio beat Jack Swagger. This was the second best match on the show. Del Rio was great as a heel, begging off from Swagger and getting on his knees with his hand extended. Del Rio shook hands with both the referee and a fan in the front row to try convince Swagger to shake his hand, but it was all a heelish ploy. At one point Del Rio grabbed the mic and berated the crowd for being dead and asked why Liverpool Football Club suck so much.

This got a mixed reaction, with some fans cheering because there are two Premier League soccer clubs in Liverpool, with there being Everton Football Club fans in the building, all happy at that comment. Swagger kicked out of a superkick and broke/reversed Del Rio’s armbar, before eventually submitting to the cross armbreaker.

    – Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt in a No Holds Barred match. Most heat and reaction on the show, and best match on the show. Crowd was 95% behind Reigns. They used a kendo stick, chairs and the ringside stairs as props. Reigns eventually brought a table in too. Reigns won after nailing Wyatt with a Superman punch, sending everyone home happy.

    Notes & Observations —

    – This felt like the least star power on a WWE house show on a U.K. tour for several years. The arena was packed. There were no sections curtained off, and I couldn’t see any empty seats in any sections, so I’d estimate the crowd to be at least 5-6000. It was mostly families with lots of kids, especially given the family-friendly 5pm start time.

I’m aware of all of WWE’s current limitations at this time, and that this was at the start of a lengthy tour, and that some guys may have taken notice of Rollins injury and may be working even more safe than usual. But to me, this felt like a boring show. It was, essentially, a near-three hour version of WWE Main Event/WWE Superstars. Okay matches, featuring limited star power, involving people the main tv shows don’t feature. Even something as simple as the show’s tour programme told a story. The cover of the programme featured seven people, and only four of them (Paige, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Kofi Kingston) are on the tour. And of those, only Reigns was on this show. The other three – John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins all aren’t even on the tour. I guess Rollins was, and his absence through injury was very unfortunate.

There was a scary lack of crowd heat and crowd reaction for anyone or anything on this show, bar Del Rio vs Swagger (entirely due to Del Rio’s excellent work as a heel, predominately on the mic) and the Reigns vs Wyatt main event. People didn’t react to anything. Even kids didn’t seem that excited or were starting any chants.
