The lead story is how the Alberto Del Rio deal went down, with full details, including financials that even blew away those in WWE and those who used to negotiate these deals.  We look at how in demand he was, including by organizations you wouldn’t even know, an angle he shot for MMA that was kept secret and will never probably see the light of day on television, and how this affects AAA, where he is their world champion.

We look at the ramifications of this on WWE, AAA, how the deal was put together, how he positioned it to AAA, how AAA has taken a huge talent hit, when the deal was really put together, how Del Rio was scheduled to main event AAA’s next major show against what top U.S. star in a hair match, and his dates advertised in Mexico.  We look at other promotions that wanted him, Konnan talking about how the Myzteziz and Del Rio situation affects AAA, the Zeb Colter deal, how Lucha Underground and Del Rio fell apart as well as his huge money MMA offer just recently.

    TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

    WWE

    • In a note from last night’s Observer Radio, while the Sting appearance at Survivor Series last year was not shown at all during the video package in a way that made it look like it had been erased from history, it was mentioned on commentary.
    • Also, regarding Nikki Bella not working the four-way and not being advertised for Survivor Series at this point, she appears to be taking some time off to treat some nagging injuries including to her neck and hip.
    • Raw dark matches from Denver last night saw Bo Dallas actually win a match over Zack Ryder, which was said to be pretty good, and Neville beat Heath Slater.  The Roman Reigns streak continues as he got the best reaction of anyone on the show all night according to live reports.

    • Bloody Elbow’s Paul Gift broke the story that Edmond Tarverdyan, the head coach of Ronda Rousey, Travis Browne, and Jake Ellenberger, has filed for personal Chapter 7 bankruptcy. It appears that he’s claiming no income, for the last few years, no ownership in the Glendale Fighting Club, and so on, and the trustee may not be buying that. His wife did not file bankruptcy. While it does vary, 10% of the show and win money is standard for coaching fees.
    • As Dave noted earlier, Matt Brown is out of his 11/21 main event against Kelvin Gastelum. No word yet on if there will be a replacement or if the fight will be scrapped.
    • Tim Kennedy on the MMA Hour talked about his new storyline, which is that he is going to return to UFC with the goal of smashing all former drug users.  He also talked about the new History Channel series that he’s working on, Hunting Hitler, which kicks off next week.  He traveled to South America to investigate the long-standing conspiracy theory that Adolph Hitler did not kill himself in a bunker but rather escaped to South America where he lived out his days.  Kennedy said he never believed the story but teased that he might have changed his mind based on this investigation, but you have to tune into the new eight-part series to find out.
    • Chris Weidman is on the cover of the new issue of Men’s Health Magazine.
    • Cosmo Alexandre, last seen defeating “John” Wayne Parr under Muay Thai rules for Lion Fight, has signed with World Series of Fighting. He’s 6-1 in MMA, having mostly fought in Bellator, except for his last fight, which was in Legacy FC.

    SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE

    WWE

    • Alberto Del Rio remains in the news as the big story today.  Promociones Kdena had Alberto El Patron scheduled as the top star on a show at Arena Jose Suliaman today.  This was not a AAA show, although they booked talent through AAA, and was considered a significant show.  He pulled out of the show, and it was announced yesterday that the entire show is being postponed.  What’s notable is that unlike tomorrow’s AAA show in Nuevo Laredo, which goes head-up with Raw in Denver, there doesn’t appear to have been any schedule conflict.  WWE only has one show today, in Casper, WY, and Alberto is not scheduled, and he didn’t work last night’s show in Billings, MT, which was the same crew as Casper.

    FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE

    • A note on the report in this week’s Observer regarding different sources listing a $1.45 million downside guarantee for Alberto Del Rio in returning to WWE.  According to other sources with knowledge of exactly what his contract entails, while he may very well make that much over the next year in WWE, he was not given a guarantee close to that.  It appears from here that when the Lucha Underground deal fell apart, that he wanted to go back to WWE and that’s really it.  As noted before, he will be at TV Monday and Tuesday and then he’ll be leaving after Tuesday night for the entire European tour, so AAA being told he was going to work their TV’s on 11/7 and 11/15 isn’t happening and one questions if they’ll even get him back for a date.
    • The Pontiac Silverdome — home of Wrestlemania III — is coming crashing down and it hurts inside.

    • The New Jersey Athletic Control Board will be hosting a Combat Sports Medicine Symposium on 11/17 on the topic of concussions and head injuries, standard of care and clearance for both combat sport and contact sports athletes.  The symposium will give findings for the past 18 months of work of Dr. Sheryl Wulkan and medical colleagues in sports medicine.  It will free of charge and open to the combat and contact sports communities but registration is required at 609-341-5038 or sacbwebinfo@lps.state.nj.us and takes place at 10 a.m. at the Richard Hughes Justice Complex 4th floor in Trenton, NJ.

    THURSDAY NEWS UPDATE

    WWE

    • On the upcoming WWE European tour, Randy Orton has been pulled, leaving the Roman Reigns part of the tour’s top matches as Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose & The Usos vs. Erick Rowan, Braun Strowman & Luke Harper. There’s our answer on when the Usos would be back healthy again.
    • Tyler Breeze is on the Seth Rollins part tour, facing Rusev & Dolph Ziggler in a three-way, but that’s going to be changed because Rusev is out until the end of November due to a biceps rupture suffered at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping. WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day vs. Dudleys is advertised for that tour. (thanks to Tom Griffiths)
    • WWE has announced a WrestleMania 32 free public party on 11/5 at 6 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Steve Austin, Lita, Booker T, Lana, Corey Graves, Mark Henry, executives of the Dallas Cowboys, and Arlington mayor Jeff Williams will be there.
    • There was a big WWE stock drop today, down $2.56 per share and closing at $17.39. This is why. We’ll have a post by Chris Harrington later on tonight, talking about today’s news.
    • WWE Champion Seth Rollins, Wade Barrett, and Ryback are going to host one-hour workout sessions for fans in the United Kingdom next month. Yes, you read that right. You can buy tickets on Ticketmaster.co.uk by searching ‘A Unique Training Experience With WWE’. If anyone reading this attends the event(s), we want a full recap.

    • UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey didn’t take to kindly to a question about her relationship with Travis Browne today.
    • Kurt Angle’s big statement during Bellator’s conference call today? He’s excited to be coming to the Fan Fest next week. Sigh.
    • Speaking of ‘sigh’, we’re told from our friend Paul in Parkland, FL, that Kimbo Slice was a no show at the CCW show in Coral Springs, FL, last week. There was no reason given for the no-show.
    • King Mo vs. Stevie Richards will headline a Halloween show tomorrow night at the American Top Team Gym in Coconut Creek, FL.  It’s a free pro wrestling show at the famous MMA gym.
    • The Nevada Athletic Commission handed Rousimar Palhares a two year suspension and fined him $40,000 due to his eye gouging and holding a submission too long in his 8/1 WSOF fight with Jake Shields. Palhares said he didn’t know Shields was tapping and couldn’t see ref Steve Mazzagatti call the fight. This was, at least, the fifth time in recent years that Palhares has held submissions on too long.
    • Also at the NAC’s monthly hearing: Caio Magalhaes was suspended for six months and ordered to do 40 hours of community service for spitting blood on both Josh Samman and ref John McCarthy on the 7/12 UFC show. After telling Nevada officials that he spent $17,000 on fight camp expenses and only made $20,000 for the fight, they chose not to fine him. Stories like that make you understand why a lot of people are so adamant about the fighter pay issue.
    • Complete insanity alert: Shinya Aoki is headlining the 12/29 Rizin show at the Saitama Super Arena against Kazushi Sakuraba.  Two days later on New Year’s Eve, Aoki, who fights at 155, is scheduled to face Montanha Silva, who is about 6-foot-10 and 315 pounds.

    TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE —

    WWE

    • While it wasn’t noted in our Smackdown spoilers Tuesday night, Rusev wrestled Neville and apparently injured himself with the match being stopped early due to an arm injury. As of now, there’s no update of the injury other than it’s legitimate and not a work.
    • Maryland Championship Wrestling sent out a note today congratulating Tough Enough alum Patrick Clark for officially signing with WWE, and clarified that he didn’t no-show any events for them. They wanted to respect him signing with WWE and thus, kept quiet about his non-appearances for them in mid-October.
    • HHH is apparently on a kick to announce all new signings on WWE.com.
    • For what it’s worth, Wade Barrett and Sheamus are now considered a tag team.

    • Dana White announced that Joanne Calderwood is out of her main event fight against Paige VanZant that headlines the UFC’s December 10th card, so Rose Namajunas will be taking her place. No reason has been given yet for Calderwood bowing out. This is just Namajunas’ second UFC fight to VanZant’s fourth, as her return fight after losing the strawweight title tournament final  was cancelled when opponent Nina Ansaroff fell ill after missing weight.
    • Ariel Helwani is reporting that Lei’d Tapa (yes, of TNA fame) is being considered for Gabi Garcia’s opponent in an MMA fight at the first Rizin Fighting Federation show.  I am not making this up.  No doubt Tapa is a tough girl, but in terms of a pure MMA fight, Garcia is a multi-time BJJ world champion.

    MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

    WWE

    • The whole Alberto Del Rio situation and how it went down is discussed on today’s Observer radio up on the site.  Del Rio did contact AAA in advance, even if it was this past weekend, so they weren’t blind sided like with Myzteziz, and both sides are on good terms.  The right thing to do would be to come back and at least drop their world title.  Del Rio is expected on tonight’s show.  They really should have brought back Ricardo Rodriguez with him.  A superstar can say things negative about the company and come back with a great deal.  A lower level guy will have a harder time coming back when you say negative things about the boss.  Losing Del Rio and Myzteziz was a huge blow to AAA.
    • Brock Lesnar flew home so is not on tonight’s show.  Undertaker wasn’t advertised for tonight although one would expect some follow-up on last night’s angle with the Wyatt Family.  Tonight’s NFL game is the Arizona Cardinals vs. Baltimore Ravens.  Usually there is a ratings bump after PPVs, but the ratings after the last two PPVs were disappointing.
    • The only injury from last night reported was a bruised nose suffered by Charlotte.  They were checking her this afternoon to see if there was a break, but the belief was that wasn’t the case.
    • Besides those shown on the show, other celebrities and such at ringside last night included Rick Rubin, Dennis Haskins, The Soska Sisters (who have written WWE movies in the past), Candice Michelle, Michelle McCool, and MMA Horsewomen Shayna Baszler (who was shown but not ID’d), Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.  Ronda Rousey wasn’t there as she’s training for a fight and did the NFL pregame show.
    • HBO will be doing Countdown to Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez specials on 11/7 and 11/19.
    • WWE stock closed at $20.81 per share today, down one cent from Friday.
    • Dave Bautista talks playing Mr. Hinx in James Bond
    • The WWE video game comes out tomorrow.     Here is a trailer.

This news comes on the heels of 2K’s reveal of the WWE 2K16 Creation Studio app, which will be available for free download on iOS and Android mobile devices shortly after the game’s launch. Through the Creation Studio app, players can take photos of their faces and upload the images directly into WWE 2K16 . Once the image is uploaded, players can seamlessly create personalized Superstars or Divas. Additionally, players can upload logos onto created Superstars, Divas, Arenas, Shows and Championships. A blog post with more details on WWE 2K16 Creation Studio app

    • Dolph Ziggler did some press with the Phoenix (AZ) New Times to help promote Tuesday’s Smackdown taping. He talked about ex-girlfriend and comedy star Amy Schumer, quoting Skid Row in a promo, living in Phoenix, and doing comedy.
    • From this past weekend’s WWE NXT show at the Aftershock show in Sacramento, NXT got some mainstream music buzz for Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor slapping Baron Corbin during his match with Samoa Joe. Here’s the video .

    UFC

    • The UFC show in Dublin did 54,000 viewers in The Netherlands on Saturday.  Bellator on Spike in The Netherlands did 28,000 viewers (thanks to Bronco Groen)
    • Vitor Belfort was scheduled on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour show this afternoon.  Before the show started, Belfort’s wife called Helwani up and wanted assurances that subjects like his TRT usage, past steroid test failure and in particular the controversial test result before the Jon Jones fight that was reported in Deadspin by Josh Gross would not be talked about.  Anyway, he refused the stips and Belfort pulled out of the interview.  Belfort faces Dan Henderson in UFC’s next television main event on 11/7 from Sao Paulo.

    OTHER WRESTLING

    • In the ‘why didn’t this happen earlier’ department, OVW is teaming up with Against The Grain Brewing and a local distributor to launch Poffo’s Pilsner , a beer that is a tribute to Randy Savage, Angelo, and Lanny Poffo. • Daily Update: WWE Hell in a Cell preview, AJ Styles injured

WWE HELL IN A CELL SUNDAY FROM THE STAPLES CENTER IN LOS ANGELES AT 7:30 P.M.

    • Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell match – I don’t sense this was built up to its maximum for the blow-off of the angle that started with the most shocking WrestleMania moment of all-time.  I’d like to see something past a finish here, such as an angle giving up future directions on both guys.  Neither guy is advertised for Raw, which doesn’t mean they won’t be there.  If there is no interference, Lesnar should win, but having Undertaker conclusively lose what would be remembered as his biggest feud is an interesting decision.  Vince McMahon has more money tied into Lesnar.  The surprise element would be the shocking interference turn.
    • Seth Rollins vs. Kane for WWE title vs. Kane’s job as Director of Operations – The stakes are significant with Kane’s job as part of it, since without that stip, nobody is believing Rollins has a chance to lose.  With the stip, you can always do a one or two month deal given the weakness on the face side and with the exception of Reigns, lack of obvious challengers for the title.  Plus, even though Reigns is being groomed for a title shot, it’s doubtful it comes that soon.
    • Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt Hell in a Cell match – Reigns should go over, and probably transition to Braun Strowman, as not promising as that sounds.
    • John Cena vs. ? for U.S. title – There’s been more talk about this match in the last 24 hours than anything.  As noted elsewhere, Samoa Joe is scheduled to be in Sacramento wrestling today.  In fact, we just got a call that Joe was in Sacramento at the moment of this writing.  Tyler Breeze is at this moment also in Sacramento signing autographs.  It’s a little over a one hour flight, so it’s not impossible, but I don’t see them having talent in Sacramento right now if they are going to be on the show tonight.  That also seems to indicate no Breeze involvement with Ziggler in his match.  Chris Jericho starts touring this coming weekend, which doesn’t rule him out as just coming in and losing, but I don’t think they’d go with him as the mystery guy twice in a row.  Dean Ambrose makes sense because it’s his time and a win over Cena would do him good.  If Cena is to retain, Ambrose is the last guy I’d put in the spot.  If Cena was to retain, maybe I’d go with Cesaro who would at least have a fantastic match, and it’s not like losing will hurt him given how he’s booked.  There are the Daniel Bryan rumors today, which would be a huge pop if he’s cleared.  Given the babyface situation, that would be the best case scenario timing wise, but his situation has always been about whether they believe it’s best for him to ever wrestle again..
    • Big E & Kofi Kingston vs. Dudleys for tag titles – The Dudleys have come up short several times but this doesn’t feel like the right time for New Day to lose.
    • Kevin Owens vs. Ryback for IC title – Owens needs to win and a new challenger needs to be set up for him.
    • Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella for Divas title – Nikki winning is a step backwards,.  With Paige’s promos and all, her getting involved in the title program next makes sense.
    • Neville & Dolph Ziggler & Cesaro vs. Rusev & Sheamus & King Barrett (preshow match at 7:30) – The heels won at TV.  It’s the faces turn tonight.  Doesn’t really matter either way, but it’s more star power than they’ve had for a preshow match.

We’re looking for your thoughts on tonight’s Hell in a Cell show from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to dave@wrestlingobserver.com” target=”_blank”>dave@wrestlingobserver.com

We’re looking for reports on yesterday’s ROH show in Dayton at Dave Meltzer
