  • Wrestle Kingdom 10 live results: Kazuchika Okada vs Hiroshi Tanahashi

    Jan 4th marks the second biggest pro wrestling event of the year, only behind WrestleMania, WrestleKingdom 10.

    In the main event, Kazuchika Okada will defend his championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi for the third time at a WrestleKingdom event. The story heading into the match is if Okada can beat Tanahashi in the Tokyo Dome, as the last two times they squared off in the arena he came up short, leaving in tears last year. Although the match feels familiar, every match they’ve had is spectacular so far.

    The rest of the card, besides a Tetsuya Naito/Hirooki Goto singles bout, are title matches. Jay Lethal will defend the Ring of Honor title against Michael Elgin. Tomohiro Ishii will defend the NEVER title against Katsuyori Shibata. Kushida battles Kenny Omega for the IWGP Jr. Championship. Shinsuke Nakamura defends the Intercontinental title against a not-so-healthy AJ Styles. Toru Yano and The Briscoes will face Bullet Club members Tama Tonga, Bad Luck Fale and Yujiro Takahashi to crown the inaugural NEVER openweight six man tag team titles.

    Rounding it off are the two tag title matches as Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows defend against Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma, while reDragon defend the junior tag team titles in a four way also involving Roppongi Vice, Matt Sydal and Ricochet and The Young Bucks. There will also be a New Japan Rumble on the pre-show featuring everyone else not on the main card plus a few surprises.

    NEW JAPAN RUMBLE

    We’re opening with Jushin Liger vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara.  The crowd is pretty empty at this point. 

    Long match that wasn’t very good.  It came down to Jado with the hip attack guys from different generations, Koshinaka and Taguchi.  Jado, who was accompanied by Momoka, a famous rock star, eliminated both to win.  She then announced the release of her new album in February.  The match is all about the ring entrances.  Some of the surprises in wre Hiro Saito, Cheeseubrger, who was in third and worked mosst of the way.  Shiro Koshinaka got a good nostalgia pop.  King Haku came out to the Bullet Club music wearing a  Bullet Club shirt, as his son is Tama Tonga.  It was funny as Striker was in his Gorilla Monsoon copying saying how Haku would never submit, and seconds later Tenzan made him submit to the Anaconda vise.  Kazushi Sakuraba got the biggest pop but he was only in for a few seconds.  He squared off with Great Kabuki, who also got a big reaction, and Kabuki blew mist in Sakuraba’s eyes and got DQ’d. Taguchi then pinnd Sakuraba.  None of the young guys like Yohei Komatsu, Sho Tanaka, Juice Robinson, Jay White, Dave Finlay or Cody Hall were in the match,  Everybody was no selling Cheeseburger’s offense but he was in the match for 25 minutes before Yoshi-Hashi pinned him.

    BOBBY FISH & KYLE O’REILLY VS. YOUNG BUCKS VS. ROCKY ROMERO & BARETTA VS. MATT SYDAL & RICOCHET FOR THE IWGP JR. TAG TITLES

    The Bucks won the title with More Bang for Your Buck on Romero.  Great match with so many moves you couldn’t him track of them.  Cody Hall interfered a lot to help the Bucks.  Sydal & Ricochet did their double shooting star press spot on Romero & Baretta but the Bucks pulled them out of the ring to keep them from getting the pin.  Nick Jackson gave a shout out to Kevin Owens, Neville and all their friends at the Fed.  Romero was put over a lot during the match doing forever clotheslines to everyoen since he was losing the fall.  The Bucks before the match looked at the cameras, said four-times jr. champs and winked.    

    MARK & JAY BRISCOE & TORU YANO VS. YUJIRO TAKAHASHI & BAD LUCK FALE & TAMA TONGA FOR NEVER TRIOS TITLES

    The Briscoes & Yano won the titles when the Briscoes used the Doomsday device on Tonga for the pin.  Mark was really good here but the match didn’t build well.  A lot of Yano’s usual comedy.  Jay was struggling with Tonga on his shoulders when Yano hit Tonga with a chair and Mark came off the top with a clothesline and Jay pinned Tonga. 

    JAY LETHAL VS. MICHAEL ELGIN FOR ROH TITLE

    Lethal retained using the Lethal injection after Elgin went for a power bomb afer a Falcan arrow off the middle rope.   Truth Martini tired to interfere but Elgin nailed him and his book went flying.  Lethal grabbed i and when Elgin had him up for the power bomb, Lethal hit Elgin with the book and followed with a Lethal injection for the pin.

    KENNY OMEGA VS. KUSHIDA FOR THE IWGP JR. TITLE

    Great match, with Kushida turning the One Winged Angel into a Kimura and then a cradle for the pin to win the title.  Kushida wa great here and Omega did a tremendous job of selling the left arm during this match.  The Bucks interfered helping Omega.  Ryusuke Taguchi came out as Doc Brown from Back to the Future with Kushida.  The Bucks took him out early with a double superkick.  He came back and took out the Bucks with garbage can shots.  Both did big dives and suepr crisp wrestling.

    DOC GALLOWS & KARL ANDERSON VS.  TOGI MAKABE & TOMOAKI HONMA FOR IWGP TAG TITLES

    Another title change in a really good match.  Crowd was really into Makabe & Honma from the start.  The finish saw Makabe & Honma use the kokeshi impact (double impact with Honma using the head-butt spear off the top rope on Anderson, then Honma used the kokeshi off the top rope on Gallows, followed by Makabe using the kneedrop off the top rope on Gallows for the pin.  Well timed well worked match.  This is Honma’s first title win in New Japan.

    HIROOKI GOTO VS. TETSUYA NAITO

    Goto pinned him in a surprise using the shouten kai.  Very well wrestled match.  Bushi and Evil interfered after a ref bump.  Goto had blocked a low blow by Naito.  Bushi went to blow green mist at Goto, who moved and Evil got it inthe face.  Naito then hit the low blow and running cradle but Goto kicked out, used he head-butt and shouten kai.  The inteference is getting old by this point in the show.

    TOMOHIRO ISHII VS. KATSUYORI SHIBATA FOR NEVER OPEN WEIGHT TITLE

    Shibata won the title clean with the penalty kick after a standing kick to the chest.  There two just killed each other with kicks and clotheslines and elbows.  I don’t know how these guys continue to do these kind of matches.  Just ridiculously physical.  The one thing I hated was they did some absolutely sick klunking head-butts to each other toward the end.  A lot of people won’t like this not being traditional pro wrestling with the fired up no sell spots throughout the match but this felt like a fight from start to finish.  It’s just hard to top some of the matches they’ve had in the past but a super match.

    SHINSUKE NAKAMURA VS. A.J. STYLES FOR  THE IC TITLE

    Nakamura retained the title after a falcon arrow off the top rope, the bom a ye to the back of the head and then a regular bom a ye for the pin.  After the match Nakamura offered his fist and Styles gave him a fist bump back.  This was a match of the year candidate.  There were so many great sequences and spots.  Styles kicked out of a bom a ye off the middle rope, Nakamura used a flying armbar after Styles tried a spinning chiop, Styles used a half Styles clash which Nakamura kicked out of, because the full Styles clash is protected.  Styles at one point acted like his back wass out and then got up and attacked Nakamura from behind.  This was two of the best wrestlers in the world determined to have an incredible match.  Styles seemed healthier than against Jay Lethal as he did more and was moving better.  He didn’t fly as much and relied more on his wrestling, but it didn’t hurt the match at all.

    KAZUCHIKA OKADA VS. HIROSHI TANAHASHI FOR IWGP TITLE’

    Another incredible match.  Okada retained the title after three rainmakers.  There were a lot of buffeirng issues throghout this match so it was hard to get a full grip of it but it felt like a match of the year going way over 30 minutes.  The crowd was so intense at the end but I’d have to rewatch to get the full effect of the match.  Among the highlights were Okada kicking out of two high fly flows,Tanahashi kicked out of the rainmaker, Okada did the high fly flow for a near fall and Tanahashi did a rainmaker.   Tanahashi went for a high fly flow late and Okada caught him with a dropkick which was right before the finish.  It felt like this was the classic passing of the torch as Tanahashi had to be helped out while Okada was the one closing the show at the Tokyo Dome.

    Gedo and Okada did promos after the match.  No challenges after the match.  The angles may be shot for the next top matches tomorrow night.

    WELTERWEIGHTS- SHELDON WESTCOTT (8-3-1, 0-2 UFC) VS. EDGAR GARCIA (14-4, 0-3 UFC)

    First round: Wescott with a bodylock takedown Wescott throwing lefts.  He’s got the back and working for a choke. Wescott landing all kinds of punchex from back position.  Wescott landing a ton of punches. I’m surpised it wasn’t stopped.  This is too many punches.  It was stopped way too late.  Not as bad as the Sakuraba fight, but it was feeling like the same kind of nightmare. 

    BANTAMWEIGHTS- JOE SOTO (15-4, 0-2 UFC) VS. MICHINORI TANAKA (10-1, 1-1 UFC)

    First round: Holy crap does Mario Yamasaki look like he hasn’t slept in a month.  Soto using low kicks.  Soto tried a takedown, Tanaka blocked and landed punches.  Tanaka landed a right.  Soto with another low kick.  Hard low kick by Tanaka.  Nice left by Soto.  Low kick by Tanaka and Tanaka took him down.  Soto working for a googplata.  Elbows by Soto.  Tanaka out of trouble.  Tanaka escaped and had a huge smile on his face.  Soto 10-9, but close.

    Second round: Head kick by Tanaka.  Tanaka missing punches.  Tanaka staring to land now.    Knee by Tanaka but Soto back with a punch.  Soto with a hard low kick.  Body kick by Soto.  Tanaka’s left leg is all red from the low kicks.  Knee by Tanaka and a judo hip toss took Soto down.  Soto working for a guillotine now.  Tanaka cleared it and on top.  Tanaka landing some elbows.  Nice groundwork by Tanaka.  Tanaka with some punches and elbows.  Tanaka with more punches.  Tanaka’s round so 19-19.

    Third round: Tanaka landing some punches.  Knee by Tanaka.  Left by Soto.  Left by Tanaka.  Tanaka landing more punches and Soto back with a left.  Tanaka with a takedown attempt but Soto back up.  Left by Soto.  Left by Tanaka as Soto taunted him.  Tanaka with a takedown.  Soto again working for a guillotine.  Soto has a body triangle as well.  Tanaka escaped and on top.  Soto back up.  Soto with a left and right.  Crowd really into this.  Uppercut by Soto.  Trading punches but Soto landing more solidly.  Nice left by Soto.  Tanaka bleeding from the nose and mouth.  Takedown by Soto and he got mount and his back and is working for a choke as time ran out.  The crowd really liked the fight, 29-28 Soto.

    LIGHTWEIGHTS- (#12) DUSTIN POIRIER (18-4, 9-3 UFC) VS. JOSEPH DUFFY (14-1, 2-0 UFC)

    First round: Poirier landing good shots from a clinch.  Duffy with punches.  Leg kick by Duffy.  Body kick by Poirier.  Right by Duffy.  Big right by Duffy hurt Poirier to the body.  Poirier looks out of trouble.  Duffy with a body shot.  Two right uppercuts by Duffy.  Another right by Duffy.  Poirier landing shots from the clihch.  Both swinging.  This is geat.  Takedown by Poirier.  Duffy bleeding from the nose.  Duffy bleeding from the nose  Poirier with a shot.  Punch and knee by Poirier as Duffy got up.  Hard elbow by Duffy.  Both landed good rights.  Close round, Poirier 10-9.

    Third round:   Poirier with a low kick.  Good body shot by Duffy.  Poirier took him down again.  Duffy tried to roll out.  Duffy went for a heel hook.  Poirier escaped and back on top.  The ref ordered a standup.  There was no reason and fans booed that call.  Duffy now landing punches.  Left and right to the body.  Poirier with a punch and takedown.  Poirier with an elbow.  Duffy with a triangle right as the fight ended.  Really good fight.  30-26 Poirier.

    Poirier said he’s coming after the strap. Poirier said I don’t get triangled, I’ve got double jointed shoulders and I don’t get tired.

    First round:  Dober with a left.  Body kick by Holtzman.  Holtzman tied him up in a clinch.  Holtzman has him against the cage.  Holtzman trying for a takedown but Dober blocking the attempts.  Dober with a takedown.  Dober with another takedown.   Dober 10-9.

    Second round:   Elbow by Dober hurt him.  Dober shot in for a takedown but Holtzman blocked it this time.  Dober with elbows standing.  Holtzman with a shin to the face.  Takedown by Holtzman. Another takedown by Holtzman.  Holtzman with ground and pound.  Holtzman with good punches from the top.  Holtzman with more punches and elbows from the top.  Holtzman’s round for sure so 19-19.

    Third round:  Dober with a nice left. Dober looking for a takedown and got him down after a struggle.  Spinning backfist by Holtzman.  Dober took him down again.  Holtzman all bloody from an elbow and Herb Dean stopped the fight for the doctor to check on him.  Head kick by Hotlzman and Dober back with a punch.  Right by Dober.  Another right and left by  Dobrer.  Dober working for a takedown and got it.  Hotltzman back up.  Another takedown by Dober.  He’s got his back.   Dober 29-28.

    Scores:  All three have it 29-28 for Dober.  All three rounds were clear. 

    WOMEN’S STRAWWEIGHTS- JUSTINE KISH (4-0, 0-0 UFC) VS. NINA ANSAROFF (6-4, 0-1 UFC)

    First round:  Ansaroff got poked in the right eye.    Kish’s left thumbs went right in the eye.  Ansaroff landing punches and  kicks.  Kish blocked a takedown.  Both trading.  Kish with elbows.  Kish now landing punches.  Kish with a knee to the body.  Body kick by Ansaroff.  Ansaroff with punches.   They traded knees to the body.  Takedown by Kish.  Body kick by Ansaroff and Kish with punches.  Ansaroff with some punches.  Very close round.  10-9 Ansaroff.

    Second round:   Kick by Kish.  Low kicks by Kish.  Both landing hard shots.  Ansaroff hurt him with a left hook and a kick.  Left jab by Ansaroff.  Right by Ansaroff.  Kish used a headlock takedown.  Kish’s round 19-19, but this round was close as well as Ansaroff was getting the better of the standup before the takedown.

    Third round:  Ansaroff with a takedown.  Kish thought armbar but Ansaroff cleared it.  Nice escape by Kish.  Kish with punches.  Kish with the takedown.  Kish with punches from the top.  Kish moved to the mount.  Now she’s got her back.  Ansaroff reversed to the top.  Ansaroff’s comeback at the end made it close.  I’ve got Kish 29-28 and she should win, but we’ll see.

    Scores:   29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 Kish.  You could go 30-27 as the first round was close.

    WELTERWEIGHTS- KYLE NOKE (22-7-1, 6-3 UFC) VS. ALEX MORONO (11-3, 0-0 UFC)

    First round:  Morono was taking this fight on 11 days notice.  Noke with a kick.  Noke with a right.  Nice spin kick by Morono.  Noke landed a left as Morono was off balance.  Big right by Noke.  Side kicks by Noke.  Morono landed a good right moving in.   Noke 10-9.

    Second round:   Spin kick by Morono.  Morono with a Superman punch.  Noke missed a kick and Morono landed punches.  Morono landing punches.  Noke jumped on his back.  Morono shook him off.  Morono going for a heel hook.  Noke out of it and on top.  Noke with a knee to the body and punches.  Noke 20-18.

    Third round:  Noke told his corner his nose was broken.  Noke kicked the body.  Both throwing punches.  Morono with a hard right.  Trading punches.  Noke landing punches.  Spinning elbow by Noke.  Takedown by Noke.  Morono working for an armrbar.  Noke escaped.   Morono so 29-28 Noke I’ve got.  Morono winning would be possible.

    Scores:  Sal D’Amato has it 29-28 Morono, Patricia Morse Jarman has it 30-27 Noke, Chris Lee has it 29-28 Morono.  Morono was shocked he won.  Crowd doesn’t like it.

    BANTAMWEIGHTS- (#8) MICHAEL MCDONALD (16-3, 5-2 UFC) VS. MASANORI KANEHARA (25-12-5, 1-1 UFC)

    First round:  McDonald with a big right.  Kanehara shot for a takedown and got it.  McDonald working for a guillotine with a body triangle.  Kanehara out of trouble.   Kanehara moved to mount.  Kanehara 10-9.

    Second round:  Left and right by McDonald.  Kanehara took him down off a kick.  Kanehara moved to side control.  Kanehara with knees to the body.  Kanehara with a head and arm choke.  McDonald escaped and got his back and is working for a choke.  Kanehara tapped.  Wow.  McDonald was losing the entire fight, escaped a submission and then got the win.

    MAIN CARD (PPV- 10 PM ET/7 PM PT)

    LIGHTWEIGHTS- ABEL TRUJILLO (12-7 1 NC, 3-3 1 NC UFC) VS. TONY SIMS (12-3, 1-1 UFC)

    First round:   Both threw.  Sims landed a right.  Sims with a left and right.  Sims took him down but Trujillo has a guillotine and tapped him out.     

    FEATHERWEIGHTS- DIEGO BRANDAO (20-10, 6-3 UFC) VS. BRIAN ORTEGA (9-0 1 NC, 1-0 1 NC UFC)

    First round:   Brandao swinging wildly. High slam and Ortega tried an uma plata, but Brandao is out of trouble.  Brandao with a hard low kick.  Hard right by Brandao.  Takedown by Brandao.  Brandao with punches.  Right by Brandao.  Both landing punches but Brandao’s shots are crisper.  Body kick by Ortega.  Brandao 10-9.

    Second round:  Brandao with a left.  Body kick by  Brandao.  Ortega with a right.  Big right by Brandao.  Right by Brandao.  Ortega with punches.  Body kick by Ortega.  Brandao took this round as well so up 20-18.  Ortega looks to need a finish.

    Third round:  Both out swinging.  Ortega went for a takedown but Brando ended up on top.  Brandao let him up and took him back down.  Ortega  working for a choke.  Brandao escaped.  Ortega went for a triangle for the submission.  It was an Anaconda choke and moved to a mount, went for a guillotine, let it go and did a great triangle set up for the submission.  That finish was bonus worthy. 

    WELTERWEIGHTS- LORENZ LARKIN (16-4 1 NC, 3-4 UFC) VS. ALBERT TUMENOV (16-2, 4-1 UFC)

    First round:   Nothing happening early. Larkin caught the kick.  Low kick by Larkin.  Another low kick by Larkin.  Tumenov moving in with a big flurry.  Right and left by Tumenov.  Low kick by Larkin.  Hard kick by Tumenov.  Front kick by Larkin.  Big right by Tumenov.  Low kick by Larkin.  Another low kick by Larkin.  Low kick by Larkin.  Larkin 10-9.  Close round.

    Second round:   Larkin with a body kick.  Larkin with a low kick.  Larkin throwing low kicks.  Right by Larkin.  Tumenov in with punches.  Tumenov landing to the body hard.  Larkin with a low kick and Tumenov switched his stance.  Tumenov landing lefts to the body.  Larkin with a right.  Both missing big punches.     HEAVYWEIGHTS- (#3) STIPE MIOCIC (13-2, 7-2 UFC) VS. (#2) ANDRE

    First round:  Arlovski kicking the knee.  Miocic hurt him with two punches and finished him with punches on the ground.   Right to the left ear, a right to the jaw and a left and Arvloski was down and a few punches on the ground and it was over.  :54 

    Miocic is demanding a title shot and with this one, he deserves it.   

    UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP- (C) ROBBIE LAWLER (26-10 1 NC, 11-4 UFC) VS. (#4) CARLOS CONDIT (30-8, 7-4 UFC)

    First round:  Condit with a  body kick.  Low kick by Condit.  Lawler landing good punches.  Condit landed a left and a push and Lawler went down.  Body kick by Condit and a knee.  Condit is hurting him.   Body kick by Condit.  Another body kick by Condit.  Lawler with a right.  Knee by Condit.  Body kick by Condit.  High kick by Condit.  Condit with a left and kick.  Low kick by Condit.  Low kick again by Condit.  Body kick and left hook by Condit.  Condit 10-9

    Second round:  Slower second round.  Condit with some low kicks.  Lawler landed a punch but Condit back with punches  Body kick by Condit. Lawler blasted him with a left and Condit went down and he’s inn trouble.  Condit tied him up.  Lawler wanted him to get up.  Made sense for him to do so.  Left by Lawler.  Head kick by Condit.  Lawler with a hard left.  Lawler missing big punches.  Big left by Lawler.  Lawler’s round 19-19.

Condit in with punches and elbows.  Condit landed several punches and a body kick.  Condit landing more punches.  Condit landing a lot of punches now.  Front kick by Condit.  Lawler with a left and right. Body kick by Lawler.  Condit back with punches.  Condit landing a ton of punches.  Head kick by Condit more punches.  Lawler with a  big right.  Big left by Lawler.  Condit back.  Lawler big left rand big right by Lawler.  Knee by Lawler.  Big left  by Lawler.  Head kick by Lawler.  Condit with a right. Condit back with punches.  One of the best rounds of all-time.  Condit back with punches and Lawler with punches.  Condit with a  right and a left.  Both throwing as time ran out.  Lawler’s round.  This was a match of the year and then some.  Lawler’s round I’ve got 48-47 for Condit.

    Scores:   Tony Weeks has it 48-47 Condit, Chris Lee has it 48-47 Lawler, Derek Cleary has it 48-47 Lawler.

    They need a rematch. 

    I just rewatched round three.  This could have gone either way.  You could go with Lawler in the third, he landed the best shots even though Condit landed far more.  I can’t call it a bad decision although I’d go for Condit.  A rematch is the way to go.

  • WWE RAW live results 12-28: The return of John Cena and Vince McMahon, plus pre and post Raw live resutls

    The Big Takeaway: 

    As the company has done so often since 1999 in an attempt to build a new babyface, Roman Reigns is now being booked like Steve Austin. Vince McMahon got arrested. Reigns was the last man standing in the end. Then Vince came out at the end of the show to announce that Reigns would defend the championship against Sheamus next week with a special referee: Vince McMahon. It was a two segment show and the rest was boring. 

    Show Recap:

    Vince McMahon started the show with Tony Chimmel doing the ring announcing. McMahon claimed he had to undergo dental surgery after the Superman’s punch that Roman Reigns delivered two weeks ago. He ordered Reigns to come out. 

    McMahon told Reigns that he practically incapitated HHH and disrespected Stephanie McMahon. Vince said HHH would get revenge on Reigns when he least expected it. And he said Reigns literally kicked him out of his own ring. McMahon said he owns his ring, he owns the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and sooner or later Reigns will understand he owns Reigns. Reigns responded that the fans own the WWE World Championship. Crowd started a “Daniel Bryan” chant which McMahon ordered them to shut up. Then they started a “CM Punk” chant as the two talked over them. 

    McMahon brought up Reigns’ predecessors the Wild Samoans. Hardly anyone knew that in the crowd. McMahon reminded Reigns he was one generation away from having a bone through his nose. McMahon said he made Reigns’ uncle Afa wrestle every night of the week and there was nothing left of him once it was over. Then there was Reigns’ father Sika, which McMahon claimed to have used him up. McMahon said paid Sika with Reigns dead peanuts. No one really reacted because they didn’t remember Sika. Plus, when did the Samoans become the Road Warriors at the gate? 

    Reigns shoved McMahon down. McMahon started claiming he had a neck injury in the most phony tone possible. Stephanie came out to check on him with police officers in tow. Stephanie ordered Reigns arrested. One of the detectives refused saying they were there to provide security, not be Stephanie’s personal police department. Damn, I wish somebody had told that to the police in the late 90s. Depending on the city, the show and the superstar, police were more involved in wrestling angles than actual police work some weeks.  

    Stephanie started to get in the detectives’ face until he ordered her to step back or else she would be arrested. Vince tried to smooth things over, but next things you know Vince started to get in the detectives’ face. Stephanie reminded her father to sell his neck again. Finally, three officers came in the ring and put the handcuffs on McMahon.

    The detective then read Vince his rights, complete with the line “If you can’t afford an attorney…wait, that doesn’t apply to you.” Vince was led through the crowd with Stephanie protesting the whole way as Reigns smiled and help up his belt. 

    Vince was shoved into a police cruiser with Stephanie screaming about how she was going to sue the police damage. Michael Cole speculated Vince could be charged with assaulting an officer. 

    Neville defeated Kevin Owens (:21)

    Neville escaped a Pop-Up Power Bomb and pinned Kevin Owens with a victory roll. Wrong crowd to pull this upset because the fans chanted for Owens before the match. The pin was booed. Owens attacked Neville afterwards. 

    As Neville was being helped to the back, Owens ran back out to clothesline Neville into oblivion. He was about to power bomb Neville onto the apron when Dean Ambrose ran down for a pull-apart brawl.

    The official announcement that the Rock was coming to WrestleMania was made. Byron Sexton started to do the “Can you smell” line, to which Cole ordered him never to do again. 

    Jojo interviewed Becky Lynch, who was jumped by Team BAD while Charlotte wrestled on Smackdown. Charlotte tweeted earlier that she wouldn’t appear tonight on Raw, but Lynch said she wasn’t worried or angry about it. She spoke about coming to Brooklyn when she was penniless and now she was on Raw. 

    Sasha Banks did prematch mic work putting over Boston to get heat. Naomi said Brooklyn was a garbage-filled, overrated, overpopulated, polluted stank dump. 

    Sasha Banks defeated Becky Lynch (15:40) 

    Banks won with a cradle following a series of reversals after Banks hit the Bank Statement. Lynch attempted to clamp on Disarm-her, but Banks escaped. They tried to have a match with rest holds to build heat, but this crowd wasn’t playing along. It got “boring” chants, which seemed to throw them off their game because they weren’t on the same page in certain spots. An average match. 

    Renee Young was outside the police station where Vince’s mugshot was posted. She confirmed that Jerry McDevitt was at the jail and Stephanie had shown up with high-profile attorneys. 

    The New Day pranced down with Xavier Woods talking about winning the World Tag Team Champions in Brooklyn in August. It was the very building where the trombone made its debut. Kofi Kingston teased singing a new song, but Woods heard the trombone (named Franchecha) that the fans didn’t vote for them to win a Slammy. Kingston said everytime the New Day comes out, it’s an OMG moment. For instance, for all the parents at home has their children misbehave, they should call the New Day because the New Day will fight their kids. Woods said “Oh my God, Kofi, aren’t you a father?” Kingston said “Exactly! OMG!” 

    Kalisto defeated Kofi Kingston (2:45)

    Kalisto pinned Kingston with a huracanrana. Before the finish, Kalisto dropkicked Woods off the apron, but Big E. Caught him. Sin Cara ran off the steps and gave both men a crossbody. 

    This led to Woods challenging Cara to face Big E. Immediately. 

    Big E.defeated Sin Cara (4:36) 

    Cara legitimately injured his shoulder after taking a bump to the floor off the apron, and the doctor had to stop the match. While this was going on, the fans started a dual chant of “We Want Cena” “No We Don’t.” After the stoppage, Woods screamed the Rocky IV line “It was supposed to be an exhibition!”  From the Ill-fated Apollo Creed-Ivan Drago fight. It was a gutsy performance from Cara, especially when he gave Big E. A rolling senton off the top rope. After Kingston and Woods got involved, Big E. Won with the Big Ending.  

    Cena is on the cover of Muscle & Fitness Magazine. 

    MizTv started to do a year-in review which was quickly interrupted by Ryback, who said 2016 would be the year of the big guy. Golddust came out and wondered if this was the year the Miz would win a SAG Award, an Oscar, or some Golden Globes. Then Zack Ryder came out to a big pop. Ryder claimed that Brooklyn was “New Zack City” and said 2016 would be the year of Ryder. Miz started to talk about how he tried yoga in January when R-Truth came out. R-Truth said when fans cast their ballots for Superstar of the Year, cast their vote for the Truth. Miz reminded Truth that the Slammys were last week. Then Heath Slater showed up and said he had a lot to say. Before he could start, the Big Show walked down. Slater said nobody cared what Show had to say. Slater managed to block the subsequent right hand with his chin. 

    Ryder and Golddust were also knocked down. Truth punched himself in an attempt to knock himself out. Show gave him a choke slam. Ryback and Big Show squared off, with Show tossing Ryback over the top rope. 

    Crowd chanted “Please Retire” at Show. Instead, he said he was going to enter himself into the Royal Rumble and would accept position number one. 

    Ryback defeated The Big Show by countout (2:53)

    As Ryback was about to deliver a meathook clothesline, Show rolled out of the ring and walked out. A totally meaningless segment, and the same can be said of the last 45 minutes of this show. 

    Sheamus came out and debated the crowd for cheering Vince’s arrest and vowed to carry out a beat down on Ambrose and the Usos tonight. 

    The League of Nations defeated the Usos and Dean Ambrose (16:50) 

    Sheamus pinned Jey Uso with the Brogue Kick. Jey was about to give Sheamus a splash when Rusev held his leg, giving Sheamus time to get his knees up. A double hot tag match that lost the crowd early . Fans chanted “This is Boring” with Sheamus in there. Jimmy Uso did a tope spot onto Rusev. Crowd chanted for Lana, who again was missing with no explanation. She’s really someone who would give the League of Nations the right spice. 

    Post match, Owens ran out of the crowd to attack Ambrose. It led to a camera shot worth it’s weight in gold where Owens power bombed Ambrose off the announcers table onto another announcers’ table. Pieces of the table flew everywhere and you’ll likely be seeing replays of that spot on opening vignettes for years to come. Ambrose sold it great acted like he was in convulsions and had to be carried out by referees. Owens feels like the most over heel on the roster in terms of getting a reaction, albeit a heel that fans want to like. But as we saw in Philadelphia two weeks ago, he knows how to turn a crowd. 

    Vince, Stephanie and someone trying to be McDevitt stormed out of the police station without taking questions from reporters who were standing by. It’s amazing how the company can be so meticulous in its planning for angles regarding the owner, but can’t figure out where Lana is. 

    Cena made his return to the usual chorus of people hating him. He pointed out a guy who wore a t-shirt with “Cena” crossed out. He ran down Alberto Del Rio for not defending the U.S. Championship once on Raw since he won it at Hell in a Cell. Del Rio came out with the rest of the League of Nations and said “The Champ is Here.” He said Brooklyn didn’t deserve to have a U.S. Championship match. Cena did a speech putting over Brooklyn. The jibber-jabbered back and forth with Cena trying to goad him into defending the championship. Del Rio refused to put the belt on the line. Cena called him a one-hit wonder who lost his manhood. Del Rio said he was going to send Cena home tonight for good, then finally agreed to put the title on the line. 

    Cole and JBL did a tribute to Lemmy of Motörhead, who passed away this afternoon after a brief illness. It was impressive they had a video package put together so quickly regarding his life because his death was announced just a few hours ago. If you haven’t, check out the documentary on Lemmy that aired on VH1 Classic, a great tribute to a great performer. 

    John Cena defeated Alberto Del Rio (C) by DQ, so Del Rio retains the U.S Championship (14:04) 

    The only match on the show worth anything. Del Rio clamped on the armbar, but Cena made the ropes. Cena went for the AA, but there was a ref bump as Del Rio kicked the referee. Rusev and Sheamus ran down. Rusev hit Cena with a thrust kick. Del Rio covered him, but Cena kicked out. With the referee still down, Sheamus tried to give Cena a Brogue Kick, but Sheamus hit Rusev. Cena gave Sheamus the AA, but Del Rio gave Cena a back stabbed and a superkick that he used to beat Cena in October, but Cena again kicked out. Del Rio went for the arm breaker, but Cena hit the AA. Rusev )(shook off that Brouge Kick fast) and Sheamus ran in for the DQ. 

    Sheamus gave Cena the Brogue Kick. The Usos ran down for the save but they were quickly disposed of. 

    Reigns came down for the save, giving Rusev a spear on the floor and Del Rio a superman punch. Sheamus and Reigns had a staredown. Sheamus entered the ring with a chair, but Reigns gave him a Superman punch and a chair shot across the back.  

    Vince McMahon came out and said he was going to sue the city of New York. Vince said Reigns would face Sheamus for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship next week. The special referee would be Vince McMahon, and Vince kept repeating “Happy New Year” to end the show. 

    The Big Takeaway:

    Part of the problem with booking Vince McMahon to appear on these shows is he’s one of the few larger than life personalities the company has left. Once he appears in the opening segment, then leaves and goes away for two-and-a-half hours, the crowd heat has nowhere to go but down. It was capitalized with some poorly booked segments, namely MizTv. Reigns was received very well.

    JACK SWAGGER & MARK HENRY W ASENSCION, when Henry pinned Conor after the world’s strongest slam. Decent match. Swagger worked most of it; got beaten down; made the hot tag; over shortly after that.

    Post-“RAW”

    A “massive” 6 man tag had been advertised on local TV spots in the past 2 weeks, but it didn’t take place. After it went off the air, we got the usual skit in lieu of a match.  League of Nations members attacked Cena; Reigns helped Cena and Cena finally got the AA on Del Rio.  In the process, Cena teased a turn on Reigns (had a chair in hand), but that was momentary.

  • WWE Smackdown live results: Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler

    The Big News:

    The New Day and Dean Ambrose successfully defended their respective titles on a live Smackdown show. Ambrose took a nasty bump on his head but appears to be fine.

    Show Recap:

    WWE Tag-Team Championships: Kofi Kingston & Big E (w/Xavier Woods) beat Lucha Dragons via pinfall

    There’s a full Christmas setup on the stage. Big E said they deserved the Slammy for best tag-team more than any team in history. Xavier Woods said they would send the Lucha Booties home with coal in their stockings. Kofi Kingston said they have a Christmas album to promote and they rhymed off some awful song titles to no reaction. They wished everyone a Booty Christmas and Happy New Day. Kalisto came out with a his Slammy award and they replayed the highlight from TLC.

    New Day got the heat on Sin Cara after Woods distracted him with the trombone. Kalisto made the hot tag but spilled to the outside after Woods pulled down the middle rope, and Big E followed by slamming him into the barricade. Eventually, Kalisto rolled out of a belly-to-belly suplex and tagged in Sin Cara.

    The Dragons each hit suicide dives but Sin Cara totally missed and Kingston had to sell it anyway. Kalisto hit Big E with Salida Del Sol but Woods distracted Sin Cara, who kicked Woods off the apron. Sin Cara tried a springboard moonsault but Big E caught him and hit the Big Ending for the win. Not much of a match.

    They announced The Usos vs. Alberto Del Rio and Rusev for tonight. Backstage, Santino put on the cobra sleeve and put a star on a Christmas tree. After Santino left, someone who they didn’t show took the star off the tree. (It’s Stardust… probably.)

    Dolph Ziggler, Charlotte, Tyler Breeze and Roman Reigns wished everyone a Merry Christmas in separate pre-taped skits. Ziggler and Reigns were completely sincere. Breeze called everyone uggos. Charlotte was disappointed she didn’t get a Range Rover for Christmas.

    Backstage, Dean Ambrose told Renee Young he has six staples in his head, and his jaw is still clicking after Ziggler superkicked him last week. Ambrose said he would burst Owens’ head like a tomato and would throw everything at Owens and Ziggler to would retain his title. He also called Owens a crybaby.

    8-Man Tag Match: The Wyatt Family beat Dudley Boyz, Ryback & Kane via pinfall

    The crowd buzzed when Braun Strowman and Kane faced off, but they quieted down as soon as they started wrestling. Strowman got the better of him but Kane eventually made a tag to Ryback. Harper caught him with a Michinoku driver and they got the heat again. Ryback made a hot tag to D-von who ran wild on Bray Wyatt.

    D-Von hit a diving headbutt but Strowman broke up the cover, so Kane knocked him out of the ring. Strowman posted Kane though, and Rowan knocked Ryback over the barricade into the crowd. Harper superkicked D-Von on the outside and Bray hit Bubba with Sister Abigail for the win. The faces made brief comebacks but this was a pretty one-sided win.

    Backstage, Santino saw that his tree was knocked over and Stardust entered with the Ascension to mock him. Neville jumped in wearing an elf hat, with elf ears. Ascension threatened the little elf, so Titus O’Neil joined the party to even the odds. Stardust said Christmas was cancelled but they could save it if they beat the Ascension.

    U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio & Rusev (w/Sheamus & King Barrett) beat The Usos via pinfall

    The crowd is dead, and the Usos each hitting dives to the outside didn’t wake them up. Del Rio won after hitting the double foot stomp on Jey Uso. The setup for this was worse than usual. Not much of a match.

    Afterwards, the League of Nations continued the attack but Roman Reigns ran out to make the save. Reigns tossed Sheamus over the announce table and hit Del Rio with a superman punch. An Uso superkicked Rusev, and Reigns followed with a superman punch. Reigns and the Usos stood tall as the League yelled at them from the ramp.

    Dean Ambrose, Santino, Becky Lynch, and New Day wished everyone happy holidays.

    Neville & Titus O’Neil (w/Santino) beat The Ascension (w/Stardust) via pinfall

    Santino did the introductions for his team and they came out to Christmas music. Santino called O’Neil as his favourite Irishman and Neville “the man gravity seems to consistency overlook.” The Ascension and Stardust backed Santino into a corner but Neville made the save, knocking out all three with a corkscrew dive. Neville hit Red Arrow on Viktor for the win.

    Backstage, Dolph Ziggler told Renee that the Intercontinental Title was special to him because it’s the first title he won on his own. Ziggler said he would win the title and 2016 would be his year. That seems unlikely.

    They aired a clip from Tribute to the Troops. They really focused on Roman Reigns.

    Non-Title: WWE Diva’s Champion Charlotte beat Brie Bella via submission

    On commentary, Becky Lynch said she was very proud of Charlotte for getting on the cover of Muscle & Fitness Hers. Michael Cole pressured her into telling us what’s more important to her – Charlotte’s friendship or the [women’s] title. She hesitated, but eventually said winning the title is her ultimate goal.

    Team B.A.D. came out during the match (to Sasha Banks’ music). They wore stupid Christmas outfits, including Banks as a snowman. They went straight to Lynch, poured eggnog on her head and attacked her. The story was that Charlotte saw it happening but didn’t help, applying the Figure Eight instead for the tap-out win. Cole in particular freaked out because it wasn’t even a title match, suggesting she should’ve helped.

    Backstage, Kevin Owens told Renee that he’s the real I.C. champion just like he’s the real Breakout Star of the Year. He said Smackdown was the Kevin Owens Show and he would walk out as champion. He left, not before telling Renee that she looks ridiculous (in her white Christmas dress/attire).

    Intercontinental Championship: Dean Ambrose beat Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens via pinfall

    After a break, Cole said Owens threw a Christmas hat at them on commentary. Jerry Lawler and Booker T made sure to clarify that Owens threw it specifically at Cole. Owens tossed Ziggler into the gifts and trees on the stage, and attacked Ambrose with gift boxes. Ambrose and Ziggler fought back and launched Owens off the stage on to some more Christmas stuff. Ambrose and Ziggler fought down to the ring and the crowd chanted for Ambrose.

    Owens popped back in the ring and held up Ziggler for an electric chair drop but Ziggler slipped out, superkicked Ambrose, Owens superkicked Ziggler and Ambrose clotheslined Owens. Ziggler hit an X-Factor off the top but Owens pulled him out of the ring and threw him into the steel steps.

    Ziggler applied a sleeper on Owens, so Owens did his running senton onto Ambrose with Ziggler still on his back. Owens posted Ziggler and hit a nasty suplex on Ambrose. Ambrose landed right on his head and they replayed it repeatedly. As the referee checked on Ambrose, Owens went outside and sent Ziggler into the barricade with a fallaway slam.

    Ambrose recovered somehow and hooked Owens in for Dirty Deeds, but Ziggler jumped them from behind to hit a Zig Zag as Ambrose hit Owens with Dirty Deeds all at once. Cool spot. Ziggler superkicked Owens out of the ring and Ambrose hit Ziggler with Dirty Deeds for the win. 

    Fun match and the crowd popped big for Ambrose. Ambrose swung the title around and posed on the steel steps as the show ended. Cole said Owens was destroying a tree as this happened.

    Final Thoughts:

    This was a very normal Smackdown show, despite being live and having two title matches. The main event was worth watching. Hopefully Dean Ambrose is fine.

  • WWE RAW live results: The Slammy Awards, plus post-show notes

    The Big Takeaway: 

    Slammies were given out. Only major news item on the show was John Cena is returning next week. The show was focused on getting the League of Nations over as a heel group. 

    Show Recap:

    Stephanie McMahon started the show smiling. She said McMahons don’t wallow in their self-pity, so she won’t let Roman Reigns get her down tonight. Reigns showed up smiling because he was the new champion. He suspected that McMahon had something up her sleeve, but he doesn’t sweat any of the McMahons or HHH. Roman said he hasn’t seen HHH since he laid him out at TLC, but he told her to tell HHH he wasn’t hard to find, he was the one wearing the gold. 

    Stephanie ordered him to get out of her ring. Reigns just laughed at her. Stephanie shrieked as Reigns kept laughing and the fans chanted “no.’ Reigns said the fans didn’t want him to leave. Roman asked the fans if they wanted to see her get really mad, and he turned his back to her. Stephanie screamed at him to get back in the ring, saying “How dare you turn your back to me!” They love taking lines from “Gladiator.” 

    Reigns kept smiling and walked back up through the crowd. Fans were cheering as he made his way up the crowd as Stephanie ordered him to get back in the ring. Roman ignored repeated threats. Stephanie got so mad that she ordered Reigns’ cousins, the Usos, to wrestle the New Day. Reigns no sold that.  Then she ordered Dean Ambrose to wrestle Sheamus in a steel cage. 

    Dolph Ziggler came out for the first Slammy Award for the “Breakout Star of the Year.” The nominees were Kevin Owens, Neville, Charlotte, Tyler Breeze and Braun Strowman. 

    The winner was Neville. His acceptance speech was interrupted by Owens, who said he should have won. Owens got cheered. He ordered Neville to take a walk. Neville complied. What the hell kind of booking was that? They should have handed Neville a shovel so he can bury himself. Owens turned his ire to Ziggler, claiming that the only way Ziggler could win a Slammy was if they awarded “Has-Been of the Year.” That led to a pull-apart brawl with Ziggler fighting in his tuxedo. 

    Kane defeated Bray Wyatt by DQ (:53)

    They spilled over to the floor where Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Strowman jumped Kane for the DQ. The Dudley Boyz and Tommy Dreamer ran out for the save, starting up yet another eight man between these teams. 

    The Wyatt Family defeated Kane, Tommy Dreamer and the Dudley Boyz (2:47) 

    Harper pinned Devon Dudley with a lariat. The Dudley Boyz gave Harper Wazzup, but Strowman clothesline do both Dudleys. Kane clotheslined Strowman over the top rope before the finish. 

    Santino Marella came out for the “LOL Moment of the Year.” Crowd was happy to see Marella. Nominees were the New Day and it’s showdown with Edge and Christian; the Bushwackers being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame; the Miz world premiere of his erectile dysfunction commercial where he turned out the Miz was the one who got over; R-Trtuh cutting a promo for the Money in the Bank match he wasn’t even competing in; and the New Day dancing with Stephanie, while HHH reluctantly joined in.

    R-Truth was the winner. Santino accepted the award for R-Truth because he’s never won a Slammy before, which the audience kind of groaned at. R-Truth came out and demanded the award. Santino took off running with the Slammy and R-Truth chased him. 

    Santa Claus cut a promo wishing everyone a Merry Chirstmas. Of course, it was Mick Foley. His daughter Noelle and son Dewey were dressed as elves. 

    Paul Heyman came out to present a Slammy. He said aside from LOL and Diva of the Year, every Slammy should go to Brock Lesnar. The award was the “OMG Shocking Moment of the Year.” Nominees were Seth Rollins cashing in the briefcase at WrestleMania; Lesnar giving Michael Cole and a random cameraman F-5s the night after WrestleMania; Kalisto delivering Solina del Sol on Jimmy Uso at TLC off the top of a ladder onto another ladder; Sheamus cashing in the briefcase and pinning Reigns at Survivor Series, ending Reigns 1st world title reign after 5:15; and the Wyatt Family jumping the Undertaker at the end of their Hell in a Cell match. 

    Kalisto was the winner. He came out wearing a mask in a three-piece suit, which reminded me of Mil Mascaras in the dying days of World Class Wrestling. Crowd didn’t really react to him. Weird to see Kalisto and Heyman out there together. There was a photo tweeted of Owens waiting in the ring taking a nap against a turnbuckle as Kalisto did the promo. 

    Kevin Owens defeated Dolph Ziggler (12:05)

    More good stuff from Ziggler. Owens won with the Pop-Up Power Bomb after Ziggler tried to give him a Zig Zag. Ziggler had just hit a Famouser for a two count. Ziggler has really upped his game over the last six months. Nothing new regarding an Ambrose-Owens program tonight, so it remains to be seen if that’s a program that fell through the cracks or if it’s on a one week sabbatical. 

    Stephanie came out to present the Superstar of the Year Slammy. Everyone on the roster was nominated. Reigns, Sheamus, John Cena, Owens, Ambrose, Wyatt, The New Day, Lesnar, the Undertaker, Kane, Rollins, and Sting were highlighted in an excellent video package. 

    Stephanie announced Rollins as the winner. Rollins came out on crutches to a good babyface reaction, and the announcers put him over like he was a face. There was even a “Thank you, Seth” chant. Rollins wasn’t shilling a bit, going full arrogant saying there was no other option for Superstar of the Year. He brought up his performance at the Royal Rumble in the three-way against Cena and Lesnar, winning the championship at WrestleMania, etc. As quickly as the success came, one wrong landing made it all disappear. 

    Rollins turned serious and said in 2016, he would redesign Seth Rollins, he would rebuild himself and he will reclaim a championship he never lost. 

    Alberto Del Rio (C) defeated Jack Swagger in a nontitle match (7:07) 

    Alberto Del Rio won with the Double Stomp on the Tree of Woe. Afterwards, Sheamus gave Jack Swagger the Brogue Kick. 

    Mark Hery came out to present the “Hero in All of Us” Award. This was an award presented to various wrestlers who help out with charity. Nominees were: Natalya for her work with the Special Olympics and the USO; Reigns for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the Dosomething.org campaign; the Big Show for the U.S. Armed Forces and the Special Olympics; Titus O’Neal for his commitment to help the homeless; Cena for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

    Cena was the winner to wide cheers. Fans weren’t as happy when it was announced he wasn’t there. Henry accepted the award for Cena and appeared a little choked up, perhaps knowing this was the last time he would be at a Slammy presentation as an active wrestler. 

    They announced non televised Slammy Winners, including Lesnar vs. Undertaker as Rivalry of the Year; the Stone Cold Podcast as Best WWE Network Show; Damien Mizdow winning Double Cross of the Year (knocking off Del Rio in an upset); and Reigns leveling HHH as Extreme Moment of the Year. 

    Supposedly, Santa Claus came out to present the award for Surprise Return of the Year. It was Bo Dallas under the outfit. Nominees were the Dudleys, Chris Jericho, Del Rio (with Zeb Coulter not mentioned or even shown), Kane (?), and Sting. 

    The winner was Sting, who was also absent. Crowd wasn’t happy about that one either. 

    New Day were out and unhappy that they didn’t get the Slammy for Tag Team of the Year. As revenge, Big E. Was going to ruin the ending to the latest Star Wars movie, but Kofi Kingston didn’t want that because his son hadn’t seen the film yet. The Usos came out with new music. 

    The Usos defeated the New Day in a 2-on-3 handicap match (10:57) 

    Jey Uso pinned Xaiver Woods after reversing an Rolling Reverse Cradle. Pretty good match but the fans were getting worn out by this point. Fans chanted for Bayley. How about we keep that one quiet before she’s called up to the main roster and buried faster than you can say “Miss Universe is Miss Colombia?” 

    R-Truth, who retrieved his Slammy from Santino, came out to present the Diva of the Year. Nominees were: Nikki Bella, Naomi, Paige, Sasha Banks, and Charlotte. 

    Paige was announced as the winner. Paige and R-Truth embraced. It appeared R-Truth tried to put his handprint on her ass because she had to push him off. Paige acted like a heel. Did she tun again since TLC? Of course, this was the Steve Harvey spot that you knew was coming. R-Truth said he had made a mistake and Paige was the runner-up. The winner was announced as Nikki Bella. Nikki came out and asked Paige to stick around. Nikki did a total babyface speech, dedicated the award to everyone. She and Paige embraced. 

    Rusev defeated Neville via submission (8:02) 

    Rusev got almost all the offense and got the submission win with the Accoldate. Neville attempted the Red Arrow but Rusev moved, Neville jumped off right into a thrust kick by Rusev. Post match, Sheamus gave Neville another Brogue Kick. 

    Miz, who was on commentary for the Neville match, presented the Slammy for the This is Awesome Moment of the Year: Nominees were Lesnar destroying J&J Security’s car; Randy Orton’s RKO of Rollins at WrestleMania; Stephanie McMahon starting the Divas Revolution; Ronda Rousey showing up at WrestleMania and the Shield reforming to power bomb Orton through an announcers table. 

    The Rock and Rousey at WrestleMania. No one reacted because they knew Rock nor Rousey wasn’t within 1,000 miles of the place. 

    Becky Lynch defeated Brie Bella via submission (5:11) 

    Becky Lynch won with Disarm-her after blocking Brie Bella’s La Magistral cradle. Charlotte was at ringside but didn’t interfere. Crowd has faded out. 

    Ric Flair came out to award the Slammy for Match of the Year. Nominees were Lesnar vs. Cena vs. Rollins at Royal Rumble: HHH vs. Sting at WrestleMania; Owens vs. Cena at the Elimination Chamber; Reings vs. Ziggler vs. Owens vs. Delp Rio in a Fatal Four Way #1 Contenders Match on Raw from November and Lesnar vs. Undertaker at Hell in a Cell. Why Cesaro vs. Cena in July wasn’t nominated is beyond me. 

    The winner was Undetaker vs. Lesnar. Lesnar’s music played, but of course he didn’t come out. Heyman did and got booed. Quite funny to see Flair and Heyman shake hands since Flair fired Heyman from WCW in 1990 over a promo Heyman gave where he went against Flair’s orders and basically put himself over. Fans chanted for Lesnar. Heyman said Lesnar has no desire to accept awards, he wants to show up for a fight. He said while the fans want Lesnar, no one in the locker room is man enough to want Lesnar. Heyman said the Undertaker stood toe-to-toe with Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell, and he paid tribute to Undertaker. Heyman tried to rally the fans with a babyface interview, but they wanted stars at this point. 

    The League of Nations jumped the Usos in the back. Rusev put Jimmy in the Accolade while Del Rio but Jey in the cross armbreaker. Sheamus gave them both Brogue kicks and said “2 down, one to go.” 

    Dean Ambrose (C) defeated Sheamus in a cage match (10:45) 

    Ambrose won by climbing over the cage when he and Sheamus had climbed over and slugged it out. After Sheamus hit a head butt, Ambrose fell to the floor. Once Sheamus hit the floor, Reigns hit him with a spear. Both men made several attempts to climb over the cage. Sheamus gave Ambrose White Noise off the top rope for a two count. Not even that spot could get the crowd buzzing. They fought again on the top rope where Sheamus crouched himself. Ambrose tried to climb over, but Rusev and Del Rio stopped him. So Ambrose jumped off the top of the cage with a hooking clothesline for a good near fall. Ambrose tried to get out of the cage, but Del Rio slammed the cage door into his face. Amazing to see something that drew millions in Dallas in the 80s used as a transition spot here. Reigns ran out of the crowd and gave Del Rio a spear, and hit Rusev with a Superman Punch. Sheamus tried to climb out, but Reigns met him at the top, had a staredown with him and threw a chair into the ring. Ambrose used the chair for several shots across the back, then hit Dirty Deeds. There was a very audible “Sheamus is boring” chant. Stephanie watched from the back. As Ambrose climbed in the ring, Sheamus gave him a Brogue Kick. Rusev and Del Rio put the boots to Ambrose before the match even started. 

    SUMMARY: 

    Show ran out of steam about 90 minutes in. The good news was Reigns got a good reaction the week after winning the strap. 

    Post-Show Notes from Eric Thibault:

    WWE returns on Friday March 4th for a Road To Wrestlemania house show.  The presale password is WWEPRE.

    Kids loved chanting New Day Rocks before the show. Definitely not as full as last Raw in August featuring Undertaker and Lesnar. 3/4 of upper level curtained off. 

    Pre-Show dark match:  Lucha Dragons vs. The Acension.  They went straight to big moves, Acension double teamed Kalisto for the heat one minute in. Hot tag to Sin Cara two minutes in. Kalisto and Sin Cara hit topes, then the Salida del sol and the Swanton for the victory in 3:30.

    Roman Reigns was cheered loudly during the opening video package.

    Nikki and Paige were really over. The League of Nations received little to no reaction during entrances, its matches or post match angles.

    Becky Lynch had a really cool, smoke filled entrance during the commercial break.

    This was the second time on RAW in Minneapolis in the last couple years that they teased Lesnar but didn’t deliver.

    Fans chanted “This is boring” during the cage match but flipped after Ambrose dove off the cage.  Ambrose and Roman celebrated on the ramp after the match.  No post match angle or match.

    First round: Ngannou has an 83 inch reach.  Low kick by Ngannou and Henrique, a Brazilian wrestling champion, got the takedown.  Henrique keeping busy from the top.  The ref ordered a standup even though he was busy.  Henrique going for a takedown but Ngannou defending.   Trading punches and Ngannou landing and got a nice punch.  Close round.  Henrique got the takedown and top control but Ngannou had the best punch late.  Ngannou 10-9.

    Second round:   Ngannou landing punches.  Knee by Ngannou.  Henrique moving in trying for a takedown.  Crowd booing as they are in a clinch.  The ref separated them.  Henrique moved him into the cage.  Nganou landing punches. He dropped him with a hard left uppercut in a flurry and it’s over.

    WELTERWEIGHTS- HAYDER HASSAN (6-2, 0-1 UFC) VS. VICENTE LUQUE (7-5-1, 0-1 UFC)

    First round: This a rematch of a fight Hassan won on TUF.  Both throwing and missing.  Luque landed a left.  Luque landed a big right, Hassan shot in for a takedown and Luque immediately grabbed his neck, working for an Anaconda choke and Hassan passed out.  Hassan had no idea what happened. 

    WELTERWEIGHTS- KAMARU USMAN (6-1, 1-0 UFC) VS. LEON EDWARDS (10-2, 2-1 UFC)

    First round: Usman working for a takedown but doesn’t have it Edwards landed a head kick Edwards with more punches.  Usman again working for a takedown and got it.  Edwards is working for a triangle.  Usman landing punches from the top now Edwards back up.  Close round.  Usman 10-9.

    Second round: Usman with a body kick.  Nice left by Umasman.  Usman working for a takedown and got him down.  Usman working the body from the top.  Edwards go back up.  Edwards trying for a takedown but can’t get it.  The ref separated them.  Trading punches.  Nice right by Usman.  Edwards kneed him low.   Usman with a takedown.  Usman 20-18.

    Third round: Usman with another takedown.  Edwards back up.  Edwards went for a guillotine but Usman took him down into side control Usman landing a lot of punches from back postion now.  Lots of knees to the butt by Usman.  Usman dominated the round, should win 30-27, could be 30-26 or 29-28 or 29-27.

    First round:  Both guys trading punches and kicks from distance early. Miller with a huge reach advantage. Alers landing slightly more through 2:00.  Miller with a nice punch combo at 2:15.  Nice punch exchange at 3:15. Miller with a nice punch combo at 4:00.  Alers answers back with a combo at 4:15.  10-9 Miller but really close.

    Second Round:  Alers staggers Miller with an early punch and also landing leg kicks.  Alers with some damage around his right eye from the first round.  Nice combo at 1:00.  Total strikes are 29-26 Alers. Miller hit with an eye poke.  The poke was really bad and Miller can’t open his eye so the fight is called off.  No Contest.

    NIK LENTZ VS. DANNY CASTILLO, LIGHTWEIGHTS

    First round:  Castillo tried for a takedown.  Nice right by Castillo and left hook by Lenz.  Lentz with an awesome looking hip toss into side control.  Lentz going for  a guillotine.  Castillo out and on top.  Lentz again going for a guillotine.  Castillo with a head and arm choke attempt.  Nice punches by Lentz and knee from a Thai plumb.  Big right by Lentz.  Knee and punches by Casillo.  Great round.  Right by Castillo.  Lentz 10-9.

    Second round:  Head kick and punch by Castillo.  Right by Lentz.  Good body kick by Lentz.  Punches moving in by Lentz.  Lentz with punches and a body kick plus a takedown.  Knee by Lentz but Castillo avoided it.  Lentz with a body kick.  Castillo looks tired.  Castillo failed on a takedown.  Lentz  landing knees.  Lentz tried for a guillotine but lost it as Castillo got on top in side control.  Lentz gained guard and Lentz got back up.     First round:  McCrory pressing him against the fence.  Samann took him down.  McCrory working for a triangle.  NowMcCrory is working for an ambar.  Now he’s back to attempting a triangle.  McCrory scrambled to the top.  Escape and reverse by Samann.  McCrory reversed and got his back working for a choke.  McCrory working for an armbar now.   Samann out and on top.     First round:  Loud USA chant.  Dos Anjos landed early.  Low kick by Cerrone.  Knee by Dos Anjos and now he’s taking him apart, a kick to the body and Dos Anjos throwing a ton of punches and Cerrone is in a lot of trouble.  He’s taking a ton of punches.  Cerrone survived.  Dos Anjos had his back and kept throwing punches until Herb Dean stopped it.  1:06

    Dos Anjos said he was happy.  Dos Anjos said he’d face McGregor in Brazil or in Ireland.

  • ROH Final Battle 2015 live results: Jay Lethal vs. AJ Styles, Roderick Strong vs. Bobby Fish

    Welcome to live coverage of ROH Final Battle, the company’s last major event of 2015. The show is available on traditional PPV starting at 9 PM EST, emanating from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

    Steve Corino is announcing the show under a mask as Mr. Wrestling III, doing a tongue in cheek pretending he’s not Steve Corino.

    YOUNG BUCKS VS. ALL NIGHT EXPRESS VS. MARK & JAY BRISCOE FOR THE NO 1 CONTENDER SPOT

    The All Night Express won with a Super One Night stand (combination superplex by Titus and blockbuster by Kenny King) on Mark Briscoe.  The match was shorter than you’d think, all big moves and about 200 superkicks by the Bucks.  The crowd early on booed whenever Titus & King would tag in as they only wanted to see the Bucks vs. Briscoes.  Lots of dives, Matt & Nick both did 450s on Titus but King saved, there was a Meltzer driver in there as well.  Crowd was really into it.

    DALTON CASTLE VS. SILAS YOUNG

    Young won again when Castle accidentally knocked down one of the boys, which distracted Castle, and Young used the TKO, called Misery, for the pin.  Crowd was into the match.  Match was solid.

    Young after the match said I’ve already taken your boys and beaten you twice and told him to do the right thing and admit that I’m the real man.  Crowd wasn’t happy with that.  He didn’t and Young put the boots to him and told him to admit it.  Castle refused and Young kicked him some more.  Young brought in a chair.  The boys each had a chair.  He told Young to call him the real man or he’s going to sic the boys on him.  The Boys were about to hit him with chair shots.  Castle said, “You’re a man, but you’re a foolish man.”  The Boys then turned on Young and Castle spun him around and slammed him.  So they all reunited.  They all posed together.

    MICHAEL ELGIN VS. MOOSE

    Elgin won clean with a burning hammer after crotching him.  Both shook hands and raised each others hands when it was over.  Before Elgin hit the burning hammer, he said, “Lethal, I’m coming,” talking about their match at the Tokyo Dome.  The Dome match was mentioned several times with the idea that Elgin faces Lethal no matter what happens in the title match.  Moose is still green but for a huge guy he was flying around.  Elgin did some good power moves including a two German suplex spot.  Moose did a plancha over the post and a couple of high dropkicks.  No controversy on the finish.

    Adam Cole did a promo on tape talking about triceps, elbow and shoulder surgery.  Kyle O’Reilly said maybe Cole will go farther in the sport than me but this match isn’t about this.   Cole said tha O’Reilly was a lesser version of Cole.

    ADAM COLE VS. KYLE O’REILLY

    This match was great.  The finish saw O’Reilly catch Cole in the triangle, but Cole got his feet on the ropes and pinned him.  O’Reilly attacked him after twice putting him in armbars.  Crowd was chanting “O’Reilly” when this was over.  Mostly O’Reilly doing all kinds of submissions and Cole escaping and hitting big moves including a number of superkicks.  We may need a moratorium of those the rest of the night.  This match had flying, submissions, kicks, knees, palms, a Frye-Takayama spot, dropkicks off the apron by O’Reilly knocking Cole off a chair.    

    ACH & MATT SYDAL & ALEX SHELLEY VS. CHRIS SABIN & CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & FRANKIE KAZARIAN

    There were a few rough spots but overall this was really good.  The story of the match was that Sabin would never get in with Shelley, even at the end they never had that spot.  The finish saw ACH use the 450 on Sabin followed by Sydal doing the shooting star on him for the pin.  Shelley had given Kazarian a DDT on the apron.  At one time they lost the crowd but they got them back.  Sydal is really good.  Everyone in this match was.  Sabin isn’t what he once was but after all the injuries he was still very good.

    RODERICK STRONG VS. BOBBY FISH FOR THE TV TITLE

    They did a total screwjob finish.  Fish got Strong in a heel hook and Strong tapped out but ref Todd Sinclair was positioned badly and he didn’t see it.  Fish got up and celebrated the win and fans chanted “You tapped out.”  Strong gave him a flying knee to the chin and got the pin.  This was a very well wrestled match from start to finish.  The crowd was with it but not over the top with it.  Strong had a lot of cool backbreaker type spots and Fish’s big spot was a falcon arrow off the top rope.  

    Veda Scott came out with Cedric Alexander.  She wanted Nigel McGuinness to come out.  She claimed Cedric Alexander was subject to unsafe working conditinos.  The crowd was chanting “Shut the fuck up” at her.  She announced an agreement was reached and a settlement was confidential but we’re happy with it and 2016 will see more of us.  Alexander showed an expensive watch from a supposed settlement from ROH.

    MICHAEL BENNETT & MATT TAVEN VS. RAY ROWE & HANSON FOR TAG TITLES 

    Hanson & Rowe won the belts in 3:00.  Bennett came in with a cracked rib and Taven may have blown out his knee, plus Bennett & Taven’s future in ROH was in question since they haven’t signed a new deal.  Taven gave Rowe a spike piledriver off the middle rope to the floor before the match started.  He came back and stopped selling that way too fast.

    Taven was being helped out of the ring. 

    We just got word Taven has a right knee injury from he spike piledriver spot before the match even started.  Until he’s examined there’s no word how serious it is, but it’s never a good time for such an injury and this is probably a really bad time.

    JAY LETHAL VS. A.J. STYLES FOR ROH TITLE

    Nigel McGuiness and Jerry Lynn are announcing the match.  Lynn may be an angle. 

    Excellent match.  Most of the match was Lethal working on Styles’ lower back.  Styles took a lot of punishment.  He took whips into the guard rail.  Lethal did two topes but on the third, Styles did a springboard off the guard rail into an elbow.  Lethal also threw Styles over the top rope through a table.  Styles kicked out of the first Lethal injection.  The finish came when Styles missed the Pele kick.  After some reverses Lethal got out of the Styles clash, hit the Gotch piledriver and Lethal injection for the clean win.  They pushed hard how he beat Styles using Jerry Lynn’s finisher right in front of Jerry Lynn, since Lynn’s finish was the Gotch piledriver.

  • WWE RAW live results: Roman Reigns beats Sheamus for WWE title, Vince returns

    The Big Takeaway: 

    Roman Reigns is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion on a program that featured the return of Vince McMahon in an on-screen role for the first time in over a year. Reings got a very positive response all night and defeated Sheamus in a match he had to win, or else get fired. 

    Show Recap: 

    Stephanie McMahon started the show. Michael Cole announced that HHH was in a hospital nursing injuries. It sounded like the crowd noise was artificial,  even though the show was live. Which shows how much faith the fans in Philadelphia had in regards to cheering the people the company wants cheered. She said Roman Reigns had attacked not only HHH, but the COO and his boss.

    Reigns came out. There was a small “Thank you, Roman” chant. Reigns said he was a father and today was his daughter’s birthday. But he didn’t feel bad at all about whipping HHH’s ass. They teased Roman was going to get fired. Stephanie brought up Reigns losing another chance at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, called him a failure and a disgrace. Reigns said Stephanie was the disgrace, so was HHH and their whole family. 

    Stephanie slapped him repeatedly. She said she wasn’t going to fire Reigns because her husband asked her not to. She said someone wanted to see Reigns tonight, and that was her father. So Vince McMahon makes his way back to TV tonight.

    You might be reading this and wondering since Stephanie slapped Reigns about eight times, how did Reigns get his comeback? The answer is there was none. At this point, I’m wondering who Stephanie is going to wrestle when she headlines WrestleMania because she’s more protected than Reigns is. I can’t believe they castrated him like that after last night. 

    Dean Ambrose (C) and Dolph Ziggler went to a no contest in a nontitle match (12:20)

    Kevin Owens came out and attacked Dolph Ziggler, then gave Dean Ambrose a Pop-Up Power Bomb. Owens gave Ambrose another Pop-Up Powerbomb. When Ziggler went for a comeback, Owens gave him a Pop-Up Powerbomb, as well. They were in the midst of a good match where Ziggler gave Ambrose a Superkick, but Ambrose bounced off the ropes and gave Ziggler a clothesline. Looks like a tease of a three-way match down the line. 

    Owens was interviewed by Jo Jo backstage. He was almost in a catatonic state and vowed to put Ambrose in an actual asylum until he gets his Intercontiental Championship back. 

    The Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno were backstage. They challenged the Wyatt Family to a match tonight in a rally around the ECW banner interview to get the natural Philadelphia response. 

    Bo Dallas and R-Truth went to a no contest (3:25) 

    Just went you thought an episode of WWE Superstars had broken out, the whole matchup was a backdrop to Vince McMahon coming into the building.They got a couple of spots into the match when Vince showed up in a limo. Stephanie wanted to join Vince, but he insisted she go back to Connecticut and nurse HHH back to health. 

    Vince then did the routine he did years ago when he stopped a house show match with Taijiri and Rhyno in progress, as he walked into the ring and ordered R-Truth and Bo Dallas out. Vince came out and said that Reigns had to be cowering backstage in fear of what Vince was going to say to him. After a commercial where Vince sat in a chair at ringside long enough to let the second hour arrive, he ordered Reigns to come out. 

    Vince ordered Reigns to apologize. Reigns just shook his head. Then Vince ordered Reigns to get down on his hands and knees to apologize. Nothing doing. Vince said there was a time where he would beat an apology out of him.  When Reigns just smirked at him, Vince teased squaring off with him. He took off his coat. 

    Then Sheamus stepped out and said he wanted to beat an apology out of Reigns himself. He wanted to challenge Reigns tonight. Sheamus talked about putting the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Then we got the typical McMahon swerve where Vince asked the crowd if they wanted the match, then shot them down. Reigns asked why not, and siad Vince once had big grapefruits, but now they’ve become shriveled up prunes now. He said McMahon was 70 years old and time was passing him by. 

    McMahon was so incensed, he granted Reigns the match. But if Reigns didn’t win the title tonight, he was fired. Then Vince kicked Reigns in the balls and walked off. It really says something about the power of your champion when the crowd was more fired up for the tease of a McMahon-Reigns match than another bout with Reigns. The stipulation practically guarantees a title switch tonight. 

    Alberto Del Rio and Rusev defeated Jack Swagger and Ryback (6:30)

    Rusev and Alberto Del Rio each hit separate thrust kicks on Jack Swagger and Rusev scored the pin. Match came and went. Swagger gets a reaction for someone who has barely been on TV over the past year. 

    We got our third installment of the Rosebush. Adam Rose talked about Charlotte cheating against Paige to win at TLC, and how Becky Lynch was worried Charlotte was becoming too much like her father. Rose told Lynch not to worry because Charlotte would still need 16 world titles, 4 marriages, 4 divorces and multiple fortunes to win and lose to become too much like her father. Well, Charlotte is following in her father’s footsteps in several of those areas, too. 

    Want worse? The Rosebush preempted Tyler Breeze’s ring entrance. I know I’m becoming a broken record regarding not showing Bree’e entrance, it show some proper priorities for the love of God. 

    Neville defeated Tyler Breeze (4:56) 

    The Miz came out and started shouting instructions to Neville. Then Miz started leading cheers for Neville in his usual obnoxious way, which got Summer Rae mad at him. After a Superkick, Neville won with the Red Arrow. Neville started rolling his eyes at Miz when he started taking credit for Neville’s win. WCW’s booking committee would be proud of how quickly the WWE has made Breeze a midcarder in record time. 

    Miz talked with Neville backstage. Miz said he could pull enough strings to get Neville cast in the 8th Star Wars movie. But in exchange, Miz wanted Neville’s British accent because he wanted to be the next James Bone. Miz proclaimed he could make Neville into the next Daniel Bryan. Neville warned Miz that if he ever tried what he pulled tonight again, he would stick a light saber where the sun doesn’t shine. But didn’t Neville win? 

    The Wyatt Family did an interview backstage. Luke Harper said they were the way into the see of woe. Eric Rowan said they were the way into eternal pain. Braun Strowman said they were the way to go among the lost. Bray Wyatt said they were the Angels of the dirt, and they would bury Team Extreme in the same city they were born. 

    The Wyatt Family defeated Tommy Dreamer, Rhyno and the Dudley Boyz in an Extreme Rules match (15:29)

    A wild brawl as you would expect. The unsung hero was Luke Harper, who channeled his inner-Dreamer by taking lots of crazy bumps. That included a Superplex off the top rope onto a chair. Later, Dreamer gave Harper a Death Valley Driver off the ramp through two tables. Strowman took his monthly push into the announcer’s table fall. The Dudleyz hit Harper with the 3-D, which everyone thought was the finish. They brawled all over the arena. Wyatt pulled Ray out of the ring. It ended when Rowan gave Rhyno a splash through the table for the pin. Very entertaining because it was something different from what we usually get on Raw, as opposed to Impact, where they had four matches a month like this one. 

    The New Day came out in a somber tone showing still-frame highlights from last night’s TLC match with Lucha Dragons and the Usos. Kofi Kingston talked about how he felt like he got hit with a Mack Truck. Big E. Says matches like last night’s change your perspective, so he called out the Usos. New Day acted like they wanted to bury the hatchet and call a truce. Big E. Wanted Lucha Dragons to join them. Kofi pinned over Sin Cara and said the Dragons were his son’s favorite tag team. 

    Kalisto brought up Xavier Woods throwing his trombone against his back. Woods admitted it was brash but he apologized. Jey Uso said he heard a better apology from his 3-year-old. Woods said they all took the tag team division to the next level, and the match was for the fans. The New Day wanted to shake hands, and they all shook hands. After the Usos and Dragons left, the New Day fell into their standard routine screaming at the top of their lungs how they were the tag team champions, which included Woods doing a reverse worm. Dragons and Usos ran back in the ring and cleared the ring of the New Day. 

    Lynch and Charlotte were backstage laughing with Flair. What did I miss here? 

    Charlotte and Becky Lynch defeated Alicia Fox and Brie Bella via submission (3:24)

    Charlotte has apparently stolen Stephanie’s gimmick of turning babyface and heel over 24-hour periods. Finish was Flair tripping Alicia Fox, which Lynch didn’t see. Lynch got the submission on Fox with the Disarm-Her. Lynch acted like everything was great and they had won fairly, not realizing how they won.

    Titus O’Neal and Darren Young were trying to hawk merchandise from WWE.Com, which are 25% off. Titus could have a future as a Michael Strahan-type host after his wrestling days are over. 

    Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus (C) to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (16:54)

    These last two night have done wonders for Regins’ career. The same Philly fans that booed him out of the building in January for winning the Royal Rumble went nuts for this title switch. It was also well booked. Vince was at ringside, living and dying with every near fall. At around the 11:00 mark, Reigns hit a head butt that busted him up hardway. But it came right at the finishing sequence, so they couldn’t stop it or else it would have killed the momentum. Reigns hit a spear, it Vince pulled the referee out of the ring. Sheamus came back to hit White Noise, but Reigns kicked out. 

    Vince talked to the referee on the apron. As he did so, Del Rio and Rusev ran out to attack Reigns, who responded by giving them both Superman Punches, and then he hit Vince with a Superman Punch. Vince sold it like he was dead. He didn’t move for the rest of the show. Sheamus responded by hitting the Brogue Kick, but Reigns kicked out. Sheamus set up for another Brogue Kick, but Reigns hit the spear and the pin for the title switch. 

    It was a good world title celebration with Regins dumping Vince’s body off the apron. No boos at all for Reigns as he posed with a big smile on his face. You could almost feel the redemption inside him in a year where’s he come full circle. 

    SUMMARY: 

    These are the nights where you get so frustrated with WWE booking because this show was booked so well, you wonder why they can’t put shows together like this more often. They pressed the right buttons with Reigns over the last two nights, figuring the best way to win over the fan base is to beat up two of its biggest targets: Vince and HHH. Plus, it was wise to get the belt to Reigns on this night, because the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania are crowds most likely to hijack shows and boo Reigns. A win all around and a good show. 

  • WWE TLC 2015 live results: Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus

    At Survivor Series, WWE decided to shuffle up the deck and pull a swerve by having Sheamus cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase, snatching the WWE title away from five minute champion Roman Reigns in a move that disappointed many.

    BECKY LYNCH VS. SASHA BANKS IN THE PRE SHOW MATCH

    Nice match, particularly the last 30 seconds or so as Lynch kept going from armbar to Fujiwara armbar.  Tamina Snuka distracted the ref and Naomi kicked Lynch and then Banks did the back stabber into the bank statement.  The crowd popped pretty good for the Banks win since she’s local.  Crowd wasn’t super into it but they reacted decently enough.

    They are teasing that Zeb Colter may be back with Jack Swagger, which may also mean that the Del Rio/Swagger thing from Raw also could be a swerve. 

    It appears smart money is in because the odds are long now.  So here are the favorites:

    New Day 20-to-1 favorite

    Charlotte 5-to-1 favorite

    NEW DAY VS. USOS VS. LUCHA DRAGONS IN A LADDER MATCH FOR TAG TITLES

    The New day retained when Kalisto was climbing and Xavier Woods, who was on commentary, threw the trombone at Kalisto and Kingston threw him off the ladder.  Kingston slowly climbed and pulled down the belts.  Absolutely awesome spot fest like a modern version of the Edge & Christian vs. Hardys vs. Dudleys match but with all new spots.  Kalisto did the Salida del on Jimmy off the top of a ladder crashinG through another ladder.  There were dives, like the Dragons doing a double moonsault off the middle rope to the floor on E & Kingston.  Kalisto did a dragon rana off a ladder which flipped Kingston back into the ladder face first.  There was about 18 minutes of this.  Like a crazy Lucha match in many ways.  It’s going to hard for anyone to come close to this.  Creative and well executed.     

    RYBACK VS. RUSEV

    Good match.  Rusev threw Ryback into Lana and she started selling which distracted Ryback.  Rusev superkicked him and went for the pin but Ryback kicked out.  Ryback got out of the accoalde but Rusev got out of shell shock and Rusev used a high kick and won with the accolade with Ryback passing out.  Rusev and Lana had teased a walk out and Ryback pulled him back which was the spot where Rusev shoved Ryback into Lana.  Lana never actually got hit and was pretending again.   

    Dean Ambrose promo.  Roman Reigns is with him.  Ambrose said he was feeling good.   They were doing the best friends stuff.  You always wonder if something will happen.

    ALBERTO DEL RIO VS. JACK SWAGGER FOR U.S. TITLE IN CHAIRS MATCH

    No Zeb at all.  Chair matches are hard because you do a million chair matches and they don’t really mean anything.  They did a good job building up to Swagger finally hitting the Swagger bomb and getting the Patriot lock, but Del Rio, whose leg was wrapped up in a chair, made the ropes.  Del Rio had the armbar in the ropes.  Del Rio did four hard chair shots to the back and then a double foot stomp off the top rope onto chairs.  

    Kevin Iole reported that Mauro Ranallo will be the new voice of Smackdown, but he’ll be keeping his boxing, MMA and kickboxing duties on weekends.  Story is true.

    Dudleys did a promo.

    DUDLEYS & RHINO & TOMMY DREAMER VS. WYATT FAMILY IN AN ELIMINATION TABLES MATCH

    The Wyatts won 4-1.  There were two tables broken that didn’t count, including Braun Strowman kicking through a table.  A table also broke when it wasn’t supposed to when Devon rolled off.  First Rowan took a 3-D through a table from the Dudleys.  Harper kicked Rhyno through a table for the second elimination.  Wyatt put Devon through a table with a uranage.  Harper did a tope knocking Dreamer through a table leaving Bubba by himself.  Bubba poured lighter fluid on a table and the place went nuts, but before he coudl light it, Harper superkicked him and Strowman choke slammed Bubba through a table.  There were two funny spots where Strowman was off but crowd really liked this a lot with ECW and ECW style chants.

    Kevin Owens heel promo.  Said you as individuals have nothing to do with it when your team wins like Dean Ambrose.  Ambrose acts like he’s accomplished something.  Owens said, in reference to Ambrose throwing soda and popcorn on him that “I eat popcorn and drink soda every day of my life.”

    KEVIN OWENS VS. DEAN AMBROSE FOR IC TITLE

    Ambrose won the title by reversing the pop up power bomb into a huracanrana.  Match was shorter than you’d think but very good.  They did a good tease count out early on Ambrose.  Ambrose escaped the pop up power bomb and hit Dirty Deeds but Owens got two fingers on the ropes for the break.  People were really into the title change, I don’t think they were expecting it.   The title change felt like a real big deal here.  They pushed that Ambrose held up his part of it and now Reigns has to.

    CHARLOTTE VS. PAIGE FOR THE DIVAS TITLE

    Charlotte was a total heel working the match like Ric Flair with the begging off kneedrops, working the leg.  Charlotte did seem more confident.  The crowd really got into it when Paige used the figure four on Charlotte like every babyface would do to Flair.  Paige used the Rampage but Ric put Charlotte’s leg on the ropes.  Right after, Charlotte took off the padding of a turnbuckkle and pulled Paige’s head into the exposed metal for the pin.  I’d rather she was something different from Ric but she had more presence in this role than she’s had up to this point in WWE, but not more than in NXT.

    Ric and Charlotte were celebrating.  Becky Lynch confronted her.  Lynch said she didn’t like the way she won.  Charlotte said would you rather your best friend won or Paige won.  Lynch looked confused and unhappy about  Charlotte’s tactics.

    WWE CHAMPION SHEAMUS VS. ROMAN REIGNS IN A TLC MATCH

    Sheamus retained due to inteference from Rusev and Alberto Del Rio, but no King Barrett. Also, there was no Ambrose or anyone to make the save for Reigns.

    This was a really good match. At first, the crowd wasn’t that hot or were doing non-match related chants for Cena and ECW. Both guys worked really hard and physical with lots of teases of wins, chair shots, and more. 

    Sheamus backdropped Reigns through a table on the floor. Sheamus suplexed Reigns through a table. Sheamus used White Noise off the steps through a table. Reigns got out of an armbar and reversed into a one arm powerbomb onto a ladder. Reigns with a Samoan drop through a ladder that broke in half.  At this point, the crowd was booing when they thought Reigns would win.

    Reigns’ Superman punch knocked Sheamus off a ladder. Reigns had the title won when Rusev & Del Rio came in. They beat him down, but Reigns came back and gave them both Superman punches.  Sheamus was on top. Reigns pulled him off and Sheamus hit a Brogue kick, knocking Reigns out of the ring.  Sheamus climbing again. This time they were booing thinking Reigns would lose. Sheamus pulled down the belt to win before Reigns could recover.

    The highlight was post-match as Reigns totally snapped.  He speared all three at the same time. He destroyed everyone with chair shots. HHH & Steph came out out. Reign nailed Sheamus with a chair after HHH and Stephanie told him to put it down. HHH was on the apron and told Reigns to calm down. After a long tease, Reigns hit a Superman punch on HHH. He grabbed a chair and hit HHH over and over with chair shots. It was funny as at one point, HHH told him to do it again (which you could hear) so then he did another chair shot. 

    Stephanie was screaming as Reigns gave him a real beating. Reigns gave him a power bomb onto a table that didn’t break. Fans were chanting “One more time!” Reigns elbowdropped him through the table, so they are doing an injury angle with HHH. This finish was great, complete with a  “Thank you Roman” chant. 

    They are pushing like Reigns is going to be fired. HHH finally got up, and Reigns turned around, sprinted down the aisle and speared him again. This was the best thing they’ve done with Reigns. HHH selling it huge. The crowd didn’t like Reigns at all at first and were cheering heavily for him by the time this was done.

    PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC FIGHT PASS- 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT)

    WELTERWEIGHTS- COURT MCGEE (16-4, 5-3 UFC) VS. MARCIO ALEXANDRE JR. (11-2, 0-2 UFC)

    First round:  Former TUF winner in the first of 13 matches.  That’s how you know a show is loaded.  Body kick by McGee.  Left by Alexandre.  Body kick by Alexandre landed.  McGee gave him an accidental low blow.  That was a kick straight through the uprights.  Alexandre grabbed a guillotine and pulled guard.  McGee out and threw punches.  Close round 10-9 Alexandre.

    Second round:  Body kick by Alexandre and McGee with a low kick.  McGee pushed him into the fence.  McGee with a body kick.  They were in a clinch against the fence and noting has been happening.  McGee throwing knees to the thigh.  They were separated with 50 seconds left.  Body shot by McGee.  High kick by Alexandre blocked.  Left by Alexandre.  Spin kick by McGee barely grazed  him.  McGee’s round so 19-19 going into the third.

    Third round:  McGee took him down.  Trading body kicks.  McGee trying for a takedown but doesn’t have it.  McGee can’t take him down but he’s working for it.  McGee finally picked him up low and slammed him and is busy from the top.  McGee working the body.  McGee pounded him out late in the round.  29-28 McGee.  First and second rounds were close however, third was the only decisive round.

    LIGHTWEIGHTS- JOHN MAKDESSI (13-4, 6-4 UFC) VS. YANCY MEDEIROS (11-3 1 NC, 2-3 1 NC UFC)

    First round:  Makdessi connecting on low kicks.  Medeiros with a  solid low kick.  Makdessi with a low kick.  Left and right by Medeiros.  Spin kick by Makdessi.  Close round.  Makdessi 10-9.

    Second round:  Makdessi with a  body kick.  Left uppercut by Medeiros.  Head kick by Makdessi.  This fight is more like technical sparring than a fight.  Nice spin kick by Makdessi  just as I wrote that.  Left to the body by Makedessi.  Low kick,but most blows  don’t have a lot of force.  Medeiros with a body kick and and a nice right.  Side kick by Makedessi.  Body shts and side kick by Makedessi.  Medeiros went for a takedown but couldn’t get it.  Spin kick to the body Medeiros.  Left by Medeiros.  Medeiros with  a right.  Another close round.  Medeiros’ round so 19-19 going into the third.

    Third round:  Medeiros with aleft.  Medeiros landing jabs.  Right by Medeiros.  Another jab by Medeiros.  Makdessi back with a low kick.  Medeiros with a right. Spin kick to the body by Makdessi.  Body kick by Medeiros but he was momentarily tripped.  Low kick by Makdessi.  Medeiros  landing the jab.  Right by Makdessi.  Makdessi with a side kick.  Big right by Makdessi .  Makdessi landing shots but Medeiros knocked him down.  Very close, Medeiros was winning the round early, Makdesssi was really coming on late but that knockdown may have been the difference.  All three rounds close.  Medeiros 29-28.

    First round:  Mustafaev moving forward.  Proctor with a low kick.  Proctor in with punches.  Mustafaev with punches.  Body kick by Mustafaev.  Body kick and punches by Mustafaev.  Hard knees by Mustafaev.  Hard knees by Mustafaev and another knee put him down and its’ over.  Proctor’s a tough guy so Mustafaev is clearly legit.  1:54

    LIGHTWEIGHTS- LEONARDO SANTOS (14-3-1, 3-0-1 UFC) VS. KEVIN LEE (11-1, 4-1 UFC)

    First round:  Hard body kick by Alves, Knee to the body by Alves.   Covington took him down.  Alves grabbed a guillotine, Covington power bombed him, in, but Alves held on and Covington tapped out.

    WOMEN’S STRAWWEIGHTS- (#5) TECIA TORRES (6-0, 2-0 UFC) VS. JOCELYN JONES-LYBARGER (6-1, 0-0 UFC)

    First round:    Huge size difference here.  Lybarger much taller and larger.  Torres landed some punches.   Nice combo by Torres.  Left to the jaw by Jones.  Right by Jones.  Torres now landed.  Torres trying for a takedown.    Torres 10-9.

    Second round:  Crowd starting to boo as Jones has Torres pressed against the fence.  Now Torres reversed the position.  Body kick by Jones.  She’s again pressing Torres against the fence.  Torres landing punches.  Joes went for a takedown but Torres landed on top and is throwing punches on the ground. Now she’s landing elbows.  Torres landing hard punches from the top late in the round. Crowd gave Torres a big hand.  20-18 Torres.

    Third round:   Torres landed some punches.  Body kick by Jones as she moved in.  Nice right hook by Torres.  Torres  now landing several punches.  She’s turning it on.  Torres with hard punches.  Now Jones landed a solid right.  Head kick by Torres.  Crowd really liked this fight.  They raised each others’ arms when it was over.  The crowd took to Torres.  Torres 30-27.  Pretty much has to be that score unless you do a 10-8 second round which is possible.

    Scores:   All three have it 30-27 for Torres.

    BANTAMWEIGHTS- (#4) URIJAH FABER (32-8, 8-4 UFC) VS. (#13) FRANKIE SAENZ (11-2, 3-0 UFC)

    First round:  Trading low kicks.  Faber out fast, landed a right and took him down.  Faber tried another takedown but Saenz ended up on top.  Faber threw a right but it was blocked.  Seanz missed pnches.  Faber ducked for a takedown but Saenz out of the way.  Faber with a left and low kick.  Saenz back with an elbow and Faber with an elbow.  Seanz with a low kick.  Faber wih a knee.  Faber failed on a takedown attempt but back up. Saenz landed good shots.  Body kick by Saenz.  Faber failed on a takedown attempt. But he hit an elbow.  Saenz missed a knee.  Body kick by Saenz.  Faber 10-9.

    Second round:   Body kick by Faber.  Faber landing a ton of elbow and has Saenz in trouble.  He’s hurting him with elbows.  Saenz surviving some huge right and left elbows.  Faber with a hip toss into side control.  Saenz reversed to the top.  This is a great fight.  Crowd gave both a huge  hand.  Saenz swept his leg and Faber went down.  Body kick and punch by  Saenz.  Saenz with a punch and low kick.  Right by Saenz.  Low kick by Saenz and another.  Faber  went for a takedown but Saenz blocked.  Faber 20-18 because of the opening flurry but it was Saenz the last half of the round.

    Third round:  God low kick by Saenz.  Body kick by Faber.  Body kick by Saenz.  Left and right by Faber.  Knee by Saenz and another knee.  Saenz going for a takedown.  Faber blocking.  Trading knees from a clinch.  Elbow by Faber.  Faber with a punch but Saenz fired back.  Saenz with a  right.  Low kick by Saenz.  Big right by Faber.  Left by  Faber.  Body kick by Saenz.  Faber took him down.    Saenz back up.  Another takedown by Faber.  Crowd gave both a big hand.  Really good fight.  Close round but I gave it to Saenz, 29-28 Faber.

    Scores:  29-28, 29-28 30-27 Faber.  Everyone cheered the decision.  I thought they’d boo it just because of how much heart Saenz showed.

    Faber said he was going after the belt because at the end of the story the good guy wins and that’s me.  Rogan said you mean against TJ Dillashaw and Faber said Dillashaw or Dominick Cruz.

    MAIN CARD (PPV- 10 PM ET/7 PM PT)

    FEATHERWEIGHTS- (#5) MAX HOLLOWAY (14-3, 10-3 UFC) VS. (#8) JEREMY STEPHENS (24-11, 11-10 UFC)

    First round:  Both missing punches.  Super hot crowd anyway.  Slow open.  Both continue to miss punches.  Holloway landed a punch.  Stephens with a low kick.  Holloway with a body kick.  Body kick by Holloway.  Stephens with a low kick.  Holloway missed a punch and Stephens got behind him momentarily.   Very close because little happened.  Holloway 10-9.

    Second round:  Holloway tried a spin kick to the body but Stephens blocked it.  Crowd is quiet.  Stephens going for a takedown.  Body punch and uppercut by Stephens. Low kick by Stephens.  Holloway with a right.  Stephens landed a right.  Right by Holloway.  Stephens again working for a takedown and can’t get it.  Low kick by Stephens.  Very close round again.  Stephens, so 19-19 after two.

    Third round:  Holloway took him down.  Holloway got behind him, throwing punches and working for a choke.  Stephens out of trouble but Holloway is on top.  Holloway with an elbow.  He got Stephens’ back again and is working for a choke.  Stephens back up.  Stephens landed  some punches.  Low kick by Stephens.  Holloway with a left.  Stephens landed two punches and went for a takedown .  Holloway blocking.  Spinning elbow by Holloway.  Holloway got the takedown.  Stephens swinging wildly  but mostly missing.  Both threw at the fight ended.  Holloway 29-28, but this is another close one.

    Scores 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 for Holloway

    Holloway challenged McGregor  at Croke Park and challenged Aldo as well.

    WELTERWEIGHTS- (#6) DEMIAN MAIA (21-6, 15-6 UFC) VS. (#12) GUNNAR NELSON (14-1-1, 5-1 UFC)

    First round:  Nelson got the takedown.  Maia back up.  Everyone wanted a Tokoro match on the ground here.  Maia went for a takedown  and Nelson tried to get his neck.  Nelson now on top after a Maia takedown attempt.  Crowd going crazy for Nelson.  He trains in Ireland so he’s honorary Irish.  Maia has his back.  Maia throwing punches.  Maia moved to mount and is punching him.  Maia got his back.  Maia punching hard from back position as the Brazilians chanted “You’re gonna die.”  Maia punching from back position.  He’s got Nelson is a body triangle.  Maia working for an armbar.  Nelson escaped and on top.  The place went nuts for that reversal.  The place is going crazy for a grappling match.  It’s awesome.  Maia 10-9.

    Second round:   Both landed punches.  Maia with a takedown and Nelson reversed .  Maia now behind him.  Maia has his back again.  Maia is in the piggy back position with a body triangle.  Maia throwing punches from that position.  Nelson reversed to the top.  Maia reversed to the top.  Maia landing elbows.  Maia 20-18.

    Third round:  Maia took him down monentarily.  Nelson trying for a guillotine.   Maia out of it.  Maia with punches and elbows from the top.  Maia with elbows.  Maia is working for a choke but he can’t get the arm under the chin.  Maia gave it up to throw punches.  Nelson reversed to the top with 15 seconds left.  The crowd liked it and the two guys hugged.  Maia easily 30-27.

    Scores:   30-26, 30-25 and 30-25.

    Maia challenged the Lawler vs. Condit winner. 

    MIDDLEWEIGHTS- (#2) RONALDO SOUZA (22-3 1 NC, 5-0 UFC) VS. (#3) YOEL ROMERO (10-1, 6-0 UFC)

    First round:    Romero came into the ring and did a roundoff.  He’s an athlete at a completely different level from almost anyone in this sport and a lot of others.  Traded body kicks.  Nice right by Souza.  Souza moving forward.  Body kick by Souza.  Left to the body by Souza.  Romero threw a kick but it was checked.  Romero landed  a hard left.  Spinning  punch by Romero decked Souza.  Romero throwing punches from the top.  Romero starting to land good punches on the ground.  He’s really weary, however.  Romero with punches and elbows.  Romero just got out of trouble and more punches. Romero with hard elbows.  Souza went for an armbar.  Romero  got out and got his back and punching.  10-8 Romero

    Second round:  Body kick by Romero.  Left by Romero.  Souza went for a takedown.  Romero totally holding onto the fence but Souza got him down and  Romero reversed.  The ref should have called a penalty point for that one.  It was too long and too flagrant.  Body shot by Souza.  Body kick by Romero.  Body kick by Souza.  Souza landed a right.  Romero looks shaky.  Body kick by Romero.  Body kick by Souza.  Body kick by Romero.  Souza’s round 19-18 Romero after two.

    Third round:  Body kick by Souza.  Low kick by Souza.  Souza missed a kick.  Front kick and left by Romero.  Souza tried a takedown.  He couldn’t get it.  Hard left by Romero.  Body kick by Souza.  Souza landed some good shots.   He’s got Romero hurt and took him down.  Souza landign punches on the ground.  He’s working for ahead and arm choke.  Souza with some elbows and punches.  Romero back up.  Souza’s round so I’ve got 28-28, but if not a 10-8 first then it’s Souza’s fight.

    The two hugged after the match and both posed with a “Jesus”  flag.

    Scores:  29-27 Romero, 29-28 Souza 29-28 Romero.  I don’t agree with that decision in the sense Souza won rounds two and three.   

    UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP- (C) CHRIS WEIDMAN (13-0, 9-0 UFC) VS. (#1) LUKE ROCKHOLD (14-2, 4-1 UFC)

    First round:  Weidman got a huge positive reaction but no boos for Rockhold.  Crowd going nuts and stomping before the match even started.  Trading low kicks.  Chris jumped on his back right away and got in piggy back position.  Rockhold tried to throw him off but Weidman staying out of a bad position.  Rockhold has him against the cage.  Right by Weidman and he got the takedown.  Rockhold back  up.  Loud let’s go Weidman chant.  Elbow by Weidman.  Another takedown by Weidman.  Rockhold had a guillotine.  Weidman motioned like he’s got nothing on it.  Herb Dean called a standup.  Weird to stand up from there.  Hard body kick by Rockhold.  Weidman took him down.  Rockhold reversed and got another guillotine.  Close round.  Rockhold 10-9.

    Second round:  Rockhold landing punches.  Hard body kick by Rockhold. .  Weidman with a body kick.  Both missed punches.  Hard body kick by Weidmnan.  Head kick by Rockhold.  Low kick by Rockhold.  Weidnan went for a takedown but Rockhold blocked and landed a body kick.  Hard body kick by Rockhold. Weidman went for a takedown but Rockhold blocked and landed a body kick hard.  Hard body kick by Rockhold.  Another body kick by Rockhold.  Weidman missed a kick.  Rockhold with a right.  Left by Weidamn.  Hook kick by Rockhold just missed.  High kick by Rockhold.     Third round:  Body kick by Weidman.  Body kick by Rockhold.  Body kick by Weidman.  Weidman wants a takedown.  Rockhold blocked him.  Two body kick by Weidmann.  Hard left by Weidman and he got the takedown.   Rockhold back up.  Rockhold with a left,  a body kick and a low kick.  Another left by Rockhold.  Body kick by Weidman.  Left and right by Rockhold.  Body kick by Weidman.  Another body kick by Weidman.  Both guys are really tired at this point, slower and more measured.  Hard kick by Weidman.  Weidman missed a wheel kick and Rockhold took him down and got his back.  Rockhold has full mount.  Rockhold punching  and elbows.  Rockhold landing a lot of punches now.  Weidman is in big trouble.   Rockhold dropping a ton of punches and elbows.  Rockhold is killing him with punches.  It really should have been stopped.  Rockhold 10-8 round for sure, I’ve got 30-26.  That should have been stopped and I don’t know if Weidman is getting up from that.

    Fourth round:  Weidman answered the bell.  Body kick by Rockhold.  He tried for a takedown but Weidman blocked it.  Rockhold got him down.  Weidman has several cuts.  Rockhold landing punches.  Rockhold on top throwing punches again.  Herb Dean stopped it and Rockhold is the new champion.  3:12

    Rogan with Chris:  He says this was Luke’s night, at the end of the the day I’ve got a beautiful family, fans love me, I’ll be back.  He said the spin kick wasn’t the smartest move, I wanted to give everything I had, all I can do is work hard.   

    UFC FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP – (C) JOSE ALDO (25-1, 7-0 UFC) VS. (IC) CONOR MCGREGOR (18-2, 6-0 UFC)

    First round:  McGregor landed a left and side kick. McGregor knocked him out in seconds.  Aldo went for a left as did McGregor, McGregor landed perfectly on the jaw and Aldo went down.  Aldo is in tears.  :13
