The reason Beer Money and Eric Young both lost their championships suddenly at the TNA tapings is because this was their last night with the promotion.
Roode confirmed it in a post on Twitter saying, “Thank u to everyone who had a part in making the last 12 years of my life unforgettable. On to the next chapter in my life #ItFactor“
Both men requested releases from their TNA contracts and were granted them to pursue other offers. Logic would mean that would be either New Japan or WWE, and likely the latter, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
Roode & James Storm had just reunited as Beer Money, and dropped the tag team titles to Decay, the team of Abyss & Crazzy Steve. Ironically Storm just had returned to TNA to bring the team back. Roode had been with the promotion since 2004 and was considered one of its best performers.
Young, real name Jeremy Fritz, dropped the King of the Mountain title today to Bram. He and Roode came to TNA at about the same time as part of Team Canada, with Petey Williams and Johnny Devine, managed by Scott D’Amore. They were actually the second version of Team Canada, but they were the ones people remember.
Roode and Young over the years were portrayed as enemies and best friends. Each had switched back and forth and Young had been pushed as the company’s crazy heel over the last year.
I’m live in Cocoa Beach, FL, tonight, where they are expecting approximately 250 people.
Asuka and Liv Morgan beat Mandy Rose and Daria
Liv wowed the crowd early with some fun spinning headscissor spots and rolling pin attempts. The heels then took control and put a beating on Liv in their corner until she escaped for the Asuka hot tag. Bayley’s future challenger ran wild with kicks to Daria before applying the Asuka Lock for the win.
Dan Matha beat Alexander Wolfe
I believe this is Matha’s first Florida show, yet he did work the Arnold Classic. He looked good and is a big, fit guy. Wolfe got the upper hand and Matha had to fight back before hitting a side slam of sorts. Nice debut.
Patrick Clark and Kenneth Crawford beat Dhinsa and Selmani
The big men were menacing, taunting the crowd, saying they couldn’t be beat. Yet, the more popular and athletic upstarts stole the win with a slick roll up. Very impressive stuff from Clark and Crawford lately.
Levis Valenzuela beat Steve Cutler
Levis and the fiesta were very over with the crowd tonight. Cutler tried to keep Levis down with armbars and headlock, but Levis ran wild with chops and his big wind up punch for the win.
– In ring interview with ZZ and Sara Lee. ZZ tried to say one of his charming lines, but Sara said she was sick of it and put him and this town down before storming out.
Austin Aries beat Wesley Blake
Good match here, big reaction for Aries as he was somewhat of a surprise. Big dropkick and a spinning back elbow off the ropes for the win.
Mojo Rawley beat Sawyer Fulton
The usual Mojo antics: dancing, taunting and getting the crowd to say “He Ain’t Hype” to Fulton. Fulton used his power to wear Mojo down before the comeback. Mojo ran wild and hit his big wind up punch for the win.
Apollo Crews beat Chris Girard
Early respect as a handshake before the lock-up. Girard kept this match grounded with a lot of mat work, later hitting a couple uppercuts to keep the advantage. Big stinger splash, dropkick, kipup, and the spinning slam for the win.
Enzo & Big Cass beat The Vaudevillains
Good early work between Enzo and Aiden before Cass got in the match to showcase his power. Some impressive single arm lifts of Alden English all the way up to Cass’ shoulder got the crowd really in to it. Heels worked over Enzo until the series of false finishes. Big Cass ran wild yet again and tagged in Zo for the rocket launcher splash and win.
Tonight’s show is our first of two shows looking at the highlights of last year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. I believe all matches on this show took place on May 22nd, 2015 at Korakuen Hall
Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Yohei Komatsu
This was a wild, back and forth match from the get-go. Komatsu brought it early and they brawled everywhere. Really good match, Komatsu showed the most fire I’ve ever seen in this match. Once he comes back from Mexico, he’s going to be awesome no matter where he’s at. The future of the Junior Heavyweight division in New Japan is so bright, I hope they realize that. As with every young lion match, Komatsu gave it his all, but fell to a Liger brainbuster.
Liger says Komatsu has some nice stuff, but all he needs is some experience. He’s interested in seeing how he incorporates new moves in future matches. Komatsu’s sole reply after the match was “Damn it”.
Mascara Dorada vs. Kushida
I was really excited to see this as the one match I wanted to see Mascara Dorada in last year was a singles match with Kushida. They’re both so immensely talented I thought for sure they’d tear the house down no matter what situation they were put in. This match ended up being really good, but unfortunately they weren’t given enough time to make this a really memorable match, with it only going eight minutes with Kushida getting the win with his hoverboard lock (kimura) submission.
Kushida says he debuted in Mexico ten years ago, and finally he had Lucha Libre eating out of his hand. Someday, he wants to make the Best of the Super Juniors bigger than the G1. Watch him climb up the ladder.
Gedo is interviewed. He says that he was surprised he was in the tournament this year, but he was last minute as Omega cancelled at the last minute. In terms of their upcoming match, he said he didn’t allow himself to be in awe of Taguchi so he was careful not to have him get the upper hand. He was surprised about being in the main event, and felt pressure about headlining, but they knew there were certain expectations for him, so he was a bit relieved, especially since Okada was on commentary nearby.
Gedo vs. Ryusuke Taguchi
This was pretty good. You’re not going to get anything flashy with these two, but Gedo is one of the most underrated juniors in the divison as he can have a great match by doing very little. It’s nice to see these kinds of matches every once in awhile as you don’t have to kill yourself every time you step into the ring; it’s simple as just knowing your audience and knowing what works. Taguchi had the ring bell hammer and as the ref was taking it away from him, Gedo low blowed him and used the Gedo clutch for the win.
Taguchi said “oh my penny” and this this was the most “Oh my and Garfunkel” moment ever. He sincerely hopes his son feels better later tonight. I have no idea what he meant.
Gedo made fun of Okada during their interview, saying he thought he couldn’t win, and said so earlier. Okada only said he thought he would win two in a row. Gedo said they’ll both be champions in Osaka. Since Taguchi is favored to win his block, winning tonight gives him confidence. Gedo says there’s no doubt Okada will win the title from AJ at Osaka Jo Hall, and reiterated he’ll beat Kenny Omega in the same building.
Gedo reiterated that he thought Taguchi looked goofy, but had to not be in awe so that he could get into his rhythm. He said his win gave great atmosphere in that anyone ould advance. He mentions how other promotions don’t have a junior heavyweight class (well, I know at least All Japan and NOAH have one, but true for the most part in North America) so for many, the best way to get noticed is by going to New Japan.
—– Nice highlight show this week. Next week features the Kyle O’Reilly/KUSHIDA match which was all kinds of awesome, so check it out if you haven’t yet.

Notes from tonight’s TNA tapings in Orlando for early April:
– Velvet Sky beat Marti Bell after Earl Hebner kissed Bell. Earl Hebner then sold like he had a heart attack after counting the finish. Stuff like this is when you know the goose is cooked.
– Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy argued and it ended up with a match between the two of them set. The loser can no longer use the name Hardy. Stuff like this is when you know the goose is cooked.
– TNA Tag Champions Beer Money retained the tag titles in a four-way over The Bro Mans, Eric Young & Bram and Decay.
– Maria Kanellis, who helped Jade beat Gail Kim, asked Jade to hand her the Knockouts title. She refused.
– DJ Zema Ion beat X-Division Champion Trevor Lee in a non-title match so that likely sets up a title match.
– Mike Bennett beat EC 3 via DQ when he used a chair.
– Al Snow did an interview talking about how he broke Grado’s arm. Grado is back home and missed the last few days of tapings so I guess that’s the reason behind it. Mahabali Shera attacked Snow which set up a match.
– Knockouts Champion Jade beat Madison Rayne to retain.
– Matt Hardy & Tyrus beat Jeff Hardy & Dre Galloway when Matt pinned Jeff after hitting him over the head with a hammer. Lashley destroyed Galloway after the match.
– Eric Young announced he was leaving TNA and taking the King of the Mountain title with him. He said that he quits and Bram quits. Bram has signed 16 contracts and can’t quit. He and Eric start arguing over who is a loser. Bram wanted a title shot but Young kicked him low, gave him a piledirver, and then pulled out scissors and cut Bram’s beard.
– X Divison Champion Trevor Lee retained over Eddie Edwards and DJ Zema Ion. Andrew Everett knocked Edwards off the top rope to set up the pin.
– Al Snow did the bitter old man gimmick saying he hates what wrestling has become…basically copying the Alex Riley gimmick in NXT. He said how all the fans are stupid, they go on the Internet and complain but they still watch every week. Well, most of them don’t.
– Al Snow beat Mahabali Shera using a chain.
– TNA Champion Drew Galloway said he has broken ribs from being attacked by Bobby Lashley. He’s not cleared to wrestle, but he challenges Lashley to come out and fight. Instead, Spud & Tyrus come out and beat him down including using a chair. Tyrus said he’s cashing in his briefcase for a title shot with Galloway next week (taped Saturday).
I am live in Tampa tonight where they’re expecting approximately 450 people.
– Asuka and Liv Morgan beat Mandy Rose and Daria
Daria and Liv took turns working over Liv with a lot of basic mat work, headlocks and armbars, all leading to the hot tag for Asuka. Asuka ran wild, knocking Mandy off the apron, transitioning an arm bar into the Asuka Lock for the win.
– Dylan Miley beat Bronson Mathews
The former Tough Enough Josh made his in-ring debut. Big diving headbutt from Miley for the win. Short strong guy match here.
– Levis Valenzuela beat Elias Samson
Pre-match, Samson barely got his song out due to vicious heat from the crowd: “You Need Lessons” “Your Song Sucks” “Drift Away” chants. He attempted to mock the town but Levis made his entrance. Match was a lot of headlocks and control by The Drifter. Levis made a comeback and hit some big axe handles and hit his windup punch finish for a big win.
– Patrick Clark and Kenneth Crawford beat Blake and Murphy
BAMF was without Alexa Bliss. They took control early, cutting off the ring and working over Kenneth. Patrick took the hot tag and did some amazing drop kicks and midsection kicks. Blake & Murphy tried to cheat and run distraction yet Patrick got a flash pin roll up on Blake for the surprise win.
– Austin Aries beat Steve Cutler
Aries began with a promo. He says he’s prepared for Baron Corbin in Dallas and is proud to be here in Tampa. Cutler interrupts him and says he’s been here for two years.Showcase match for Aries who hit a dive to the outside, his spinning elbow, and the win.
– Mojo Rawley beat Chris Girard
Girard hit variations of his uppercut throughout this match, Mojo would try to taunt him yet get caught up fighting rather than goofing around. Girard worked a chinlock and Mojo fought out of it, got hyped up and ran wild before scoring the win with his shoulder blocks, and front slam.
– Apollo Crews beat Angelo Dawkins
The usual Dawkins jawjacking, taunting Apollo, and talking about the Curse Of Greatness. Apollo was able to get Angelo’s headband at one point which upset Dawkins greatly. Apollo for the win and celebrated with the fans.
– Enzo and Cass beat The Vaudevillains
Pre-match promo with Enzo and Cass saying it is good to be back in Tampa and they aren’t happy with the results of Roadblock. They challenged anyone who wanted a match and out came the Vauds. Good match here with Enzo and Cass each getting the shine early on. The heels used distractions and cheating to take the advantage behind the ref’s back to work over Enzo.
After a long beating by the heels on Enzo, he was able to get the hot tag to Cass who ran wild with big slams and clotheslines. He hit a Stinger Splash and big boot for a near fall. Enzo kicked out of a big powerbomb late. Cass cleared house and Enzo got the splash and pin for the win.
The Florida jury just came back with a verdict awarding Hulk Hogan $115 million in his case with Gawker Media. The case will obviously be appealed and there is very little chance he will be getting anything close to that figure. But the verdict sends a strong message to the media regarding publishing sex tapes of people without their consent.
The jury broke down the verdict as $55 million in lost economic injuries and $60 million in emotional distress.
Gawker would have to post $50 million to take it to the appeals court, which makes that aspect tricky as well, as the verdict could force the company into either bankruptcy or sale. There was a great deal of potential evidence Gawker was hoping to introduce that didn’t make the trial due to the rulings of judge Pamela Campbell and Gawker is going to use that in its appeal.
The following is from Gawker: “As the trial concludes, we’re disappointed the jury was unable to see key evidence and hear testimony from the most important witness. So, it may be necessary for the appeals court to resolve this case. Hulk Hogan’s best friend Bubba the Love Spongewho made the tape and offered up his wife in the first place, originally told his radio listeners that Hogan knew he was being taped. The jury was only able to hear a questionable version of events. Bubba should have been required to appear in court and explain what really happened. There is more to the story. We expect the upcoming release of improperly sealed documents, important evidence that the jury should have been able to see, will begin revealing the true facts that the jury deserved to know about during deliberations.”
It’s generally believed Bubba was lying when he said Hogan knew he was being taped. Amazing, out of all the best friends in the world this guy could have chosen, he picked Bubba and Ed Leslie. Well, at least he’s still got Jimmy Hart.
The first part of the show were matches taped for the 3/29 episode of Impact. The second part are matches taped for something else, whether it be Xplosion or PPV shows.
For 3/29:
Jeff Hardy beat Eric Young in a cage match. The big spot was Hardy doing a swanton off the top of the cage putting Young through a table.
There was an interview segment with Matt Hardy’s crew including Tyrus and Rockstar Spud, and Drew Galloway (the new champion) along with Jeremy Borash. Hardy wanted his rematch with Galloway but Tyrus noted that he has the ability to cash in his briefcase for a title shot any time he wants.
Bobby Lashley beat The Pope in a no DQ match pretty much destroying him
EC III issued a challenge to Mike Bennett
Jade won the Knockouts title in a three-way over champion Gail Kim and Madison Rayne. Maria Kanellis caused Kim to lose.
Drew Galloway beat Matt Hardy to retain the title
Other matches taped:
Robbie E & Jessie Godderz beat Tom LaRuffa & Pierre Marceau – LaRuffa & Marceau were with WWE as Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis.
James Storm beat Bram
Pepper Parks issued an open challenge against anyone.
Ariel Helwani reported this morning that UFC is working toward a rematch with Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz, at welterweight no less, as the main event for UFC 200 on July 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Helwani reported the UFC is close to finalizing plans for the match.
This would be a major blow to Frankie Edgar, as just last week Dana White indicated the match that made the most sense going forward was McGregor defending the featherweight title against Edgar. McGregor himself, after his loss to Diaz, said he’d decide whether more people would be interested in Edgar or Jose Aldo, and that’s he was looking at defending his title against one of them. He gave the impression that he thought Aldo would have more interest but was leery if Aldo wouldn’t pull out before the fight.
McGregor vs. Diaz would also eliminate the possibility of Robbie Lawler vs. Diaz, a fight that both White and Fertitta talked about for the welterweight title.
Based on the results of UFC 196, McGregor vs. Diaz would be the best drawing fight for UFC 200 even without a title at stake. Plus, there would be longer to build the fight. For McGregor, he’d be facing Diaz with a full camp, making his odds of winning even longer.
It also puts the featherweight division on hold and almost forces an Aldo vs. Edgar match for the title shot, which would eliminate a contender.
