  • Lucha Underground July 15 TV results & recap: Puma and Mil Muertes confrontation

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, we got an even more fun show than usual. Pentagon Jr. had a skit with his master and swore vengeance on Vampiro’s real name of Ian Hodgkinson for going soft, while The Mack and Cage had a fun little opener. Vamp and Pentagon were the stars of the show as we also got a sit-down interview with Pentagon once again insulting Vamp.  Mil Muertes destroyed Son of Havoc to set up both his own title match and the Trios Title match on Ultima Lucha. The main event was a crazy 8-person tag won by Johnny Mundo thanks to cheating to beat Sexy Star. The show concluded with the usual sendoff being changed up by Pentagon Jr. jumping Vamp, dousing him in gasoline, and getting a match against him at Ultima Lucha after threatening to burn him alive.

The show begins with a recap of Dario Cueto finding seven ancient medallions and wanting to give someone on his roster immortality. After that, we get a bit of the Sexy Star-Super Fly feud and the Pentagon Jr. and Vampiro issue. Dario Cueto meets with Pentagon Jr. about the medallions – Pentagon Jr. doesn’t want them, and if he did, he’d just snap his arm and take them. Pentagon Jr. said he wants to force Ian Hodgkinson to accept his challenge. Pentagon Jr. said the Master will be revealed when he is ready. Mexican Dubwiser is our band, and Striker gives a shoutout to one of them having an M. Bison outfit on.

Striker says that with the main event set for Ultima Lucha, we’ll have more stuff with the ancient medallions. I like this – the focus shifts from the top title to the secondary goals, and gives them time to seem important. Bengala is in the ring to face someone, and it turns out to be Daivari. Striker calls Daivari a millennial.

    Bengala vs. Daivari

Vamp says he’s pissed off by Daivari’s attitude, and he throws his drink on the fans. Bengali’s Ultimo Dragon zebra cosplay gear is something else. Bengala gets a big wacky armdrag and then flips to the floor onto Daivari. Daivari distracts while Ryck attacks on the floor. Bengala gets a handspring elbow and a DDT into a victory roll for 2.5. Superkick gets 2 for Bengala. Daivari tosses Bengala into the ropes, but he opts to dive onto Ryck. Bengala goes up, but gets superplexed while Vamp talks about wanting to take a bet. Luckily, it’s just on how many bad things he can say about Bengali. Heel cheating backfires and a deadlift German wins for Bengala while Striker makes a ton of bad cat jokes. Striker hypes up Ultima Lucha while Vamp says he has to go for a bit, and he comes to the ring to a huge Vampiro chant.

Vamp says he’s been around a long time and has wrestled for 30 years. For weeks, Pentagon Jr. has been pushing him to have one more match – which gets a “one more match” chant. He says his time has come and gone and he has no ego, but he got covered in gasoline and was nearly lit on fire. He can dig that though because Pentagon Jr. reminds him of himself. Pentagon tells him to stop crying and stop talking crap. He came here wanting an answer for Ultima Lucha, and the fans chant to Vamp that he’s still got it.

Vamp says his name is Ian Hodginson, and Pentagon says his name is what and gets a big chant going. Vamp says that he can go back to his master with his answer – Ian Hodgkinson isn’t who Pentagon is going to face, resulting in a big Vampiro chant. Ian says that Vampiro is coming back to kick his ass – so basically, Foley had three faces and Ian has two. Vamp lifts him up and drills him with a chokeslam before going into the people amid a huge “Vampiro” chant.

In the locker room, Sexy Star gets ready and reaches into her bag – which has Super Fly’s mask in it. We get clips of their mask vs. mask match and she leaves the mask on top of her bag. I hope she doesn’t have an iPad in that bag because she didn’t lock it up or anything. Vamp says he’s ready to kill somebody, and Striker says that he’s got a job to do. Melissa Santos is mid-ring for our medallion match.

    King Cuerno vs. Killshot

Well, this sure is a random match. The ref holds up the medallion, and my money’s on the guy who is over. Cuerno pushes him into the corner and chops away with knife-edge chops and a sick overhand one. Killshot lands a big dropkick and a corner elbow before doing a snapmare and a basement calf kick for 1. Killshot is sent to the floor and Cuerno goes for the Arrow of Death, but he gets kicked. Cuerno gets sent to the floor and hit with a wonky-looking flip rana. Cuerno kicks Killshot, before Killshot does the same to him again. Striker says that this medallion could give you power in Lucha Underground – isn’t eternal life a bigger deal?

Killshot gets another apron kick and a froggy crossbody for 2. Cuerno lands a big flying knee and sends him to the floor. Cuerno hits the Arrow of Death to a huge “lucha” chant from the fans. Cuerno can’t get the Thrill of the Hunt, but gets a sick dragon sleeper with a back bridge for the win. Striker hypes up the next match – Sexy Star vs. Super Fly.

Super Fly comes down to a new theme and tons of boos. Sexy Star comes down while Striker says she is blurring the gender lines in wrestling. What now? I know the story they’re trying to tell, but that isn’t even happening in this company. Striker says this is their third match and Vamp says it’s a medallion match.

    Sexy Star vs. Super Fly

A dueling Let’s Go Sexy/Super Fly chant breaks out and Sexy chops him leading to a Super Fly dropkick. Sexy knees him in the balls and gets an armbar for the win. Well, this sure made Super Fly look bad – and it didn’t make Sexy Star look good either. She comes off like a coward. Marty the Moth comes out while Vamp says he wants to call him a jerkoff, but he won’t…but you just did. Marty introduces himself and wants a shot at her medallion. Sexy accepts giving us.

Sexy Star vs. Marty the Moth

Armdrag sends Marty into the corner. Marty catches her off a crossbody and really delays the scoop slam for whatever reason. Sexy kicks and chops him while Vamp asks about Marty’s possible Facebook aliases. Marty gets a figure four and it’s reversed. Marty goes for a slam and Sexy wins after La Mistica to defend her medallion. Prince Puma confronts Mil Muertes next.

Striker hypes up Ultima Lucha on August 8 and they run down the card with clips. Alberto vs. Mundo, Texano vs. Blue Demon Jr, Disciples of Death vs. Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angelico, Hernandez vs. Drago, Vampiro vs. Pentagon Jr., and Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes are shilled perfectly. If you only ever saw this show, you would know what the big picture issues were for Ultima Lucha, and it’s something WWE and TNA could learn from.

Dario comes out to an “El Jefe” chant. Dario says that in three weeks, we’ll get Ultima Lucha for the biggest prize in lucha – the Lucha Underground Title. But, since he is impatient, he wants them to face off now. I like that we get a logical reason for this stuff happening. Puma comes out while Striker says that the show has had only one title, and if nothing else, LU has the best-looking belt in Lucha Underground. Puma doesn’t have Konnan, while Muertes lacks Catrina.

Catrina shows up on the steps and Cueto asks her to leave. She can teleport, so I don’t think that will work. Mil’s goons attack, but Konnan kicks ass with the pimp stick. However, it’s used on him and he takes what we’ll generously call a bump for that. Catrina smashes the bag with the rock in it and Konnan bumps for her. They bring the coffin out and put Konnan in the same coffin he was put in. They wheel it away and Mil flatines him. This was all pretty great stuff – they efficiently built up everything on the big show.

  • Lucha Underground July 8 TV results & recap: 8-Person Tag Main Event

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, Prince Puma beat Chavo to defend his Lucha Underground title. Texano beat Daivari, and Drago beat Hernandez via DQ. Mere days before Brock massacred Kofi, we got a glorious Alberto vs. Marty the Moth squash match that was a must-watch. Chavo hurt his knee during his match, and Blue Demon Jr. kicked his ass to close the show. This week’s show starts with a recap of Mil Muertes’s reign of terror. Catrina’s Disciples of Death are recapped, as are the issues between Johnny Mundo and Alberto. Pentagon Jr. is shown with his master, and swears vengeance on Ian Hodgkinson – AKA Vampiro. This looked awesome and Mexican Dubwisers brings us in to the Temple. Vamp hypes up the first atomicos tag match tonight and we’ll be getting a Vampiro interview with Pentagon Jr. later. The Mack is mid-ring to face Cage.

    The Mack vs. Cage

They start with punches and Mack misses a crossbody. Cage misses a moonsault and eats a sliding axe kick. Mack chops away and gets a running suplex for 2. Cage gets a Nightmare on Helms Street using his knee before hitting a delayed vertical suplex. Mack gets a flying Sick Kick off the top. Mack lands an exploder into the corner, but he misses a frog splash. Discus clothesline hits for 2! Mack counters a powerbomb attempt with a spinkick. Mack gets a flying modified schoolboy for the win! This was short, but awesome.

Backstage, Son of Havoc has his title, but Catrina appears and tells him that the Disciples of Death are after their titles and tonight, death is coming for him. Ivie defends Havoc, but Catrina disappears and forces Ivie on top of Havoc before Angelico comes in and asks them if they’re back together. This was pretty amusing.

Vamp and Striker run down the Ultima Lucha card of Alberto vs. Mundo and Muertes vs. Puma. Striker throws to the Vamp interview where we’ll find out why “Vampiro” will not fight him. Vamp apologizes to him and wants to know who the master was – Vamp accepts his non-answer. Vamp digs the aggression, and it reminds him of him. Pentagon asks if he’s Vampiro or a coward. We get some brief clips of Vamp and he says he’s all about his daughter now. Pentagon wants a match against Vamp and incites him to the point where Vamp rattles his clipboard around and gives him “the look”. This was an excellent segment that took up very little time and progressed things in a compelling manner – so unlike what TNA did for last week’s possible interpromotional interview.

Back at the temple, we’re mid-ring for another match. Mil Muertes vs. Son of Havoc is up and Muertes’s status as top contender is relayed in the match intros. Havoc comes down to a ton of cheers while Striker relays how much of a loser he was before the trios tag team formed.

Mil Muertes vs. Son of Havoc

Havoc hits chops and elbows while Vamp says that Muertes has an “I hate you and want you to die!” advantage. Havoc gets 2 off a springboard crossbody. Muertes catches him off the Muta-style handspring elbow and tosses him around ala Brock. I would love to see a Brock vs. Muertes match – shame it will have to be limited to a video game. Muertes destroys Havoc around ringside by throwing him into anything he can. Muertes powerbombs Havoc on the announce table, which has zero give in it. He tosses him around the outside of Dario’s office and then throws him back into the ring. Havoc comes back and gets a dive! He celebrates and Ivie yells at him for being an idiot – well, she’s not wrong. He gets 1.

Havoc catches him off the top into a chokeslam, which Havoc clips out of. He eats a big punch off a run though and is set up on the top rope. Havoc fights back and gordbusters him down. SSP misses and Catrina goes over to Angelico and argues with Ivie. Catrina raises the stone and the Disciples attack, but Havoc gets a space flying Tiger drop for the save! Mil spears him and lands a flatliner for the win. This hasn’t been the best episode of the show, but it’s super-effective at telling every story that needs to be told. Vamp says “wow” at the sight of Catrina’s cleavage, and Striker talks about Puma being sacrificed at Ultima Lucha.

Texano has a mic and says he’s never been nice, but he’s always been Mexican! He loves whipping ass and can’t be trusted by his own family, but he doesn’t turn on his race. Texano doesn’t like or care about the people Chavo has hurt, but he hates Chavo. This is a bit odd, and he’s jumped by the Crew while Vamp calls Chavo a chickenshit. Blue Demon Jr. runs down and cleans house just by showing up. The Crew throws him a chair and he hits Texano in the head and busts him open. Demon boots his head with his nice shoes while Striker talks about Demon carrying the torch of Mexico. Demon says that he is Mexico, not Texano and he’ll fight him at Ultima Lucha. Team Johnny vs. Team Alberto is up next and we get a rundown of just who is on what team. Alberto teams with Sexy Star, Aero Star, and Drago to face Mundo, Hernandez, Jack Evans, and Super Fly. Tecnicos are out first, followed by the rudos. Drago vs. Hernandez is announced for Ultima Lucha.

    Team Alberto vs. Team Johnny

Mundo tags out instantly, but Hernandez hops down to send Evans in. Evans takes a great ass-whooping here. Aero comes in and kicks away in the corner. Aero gets an apron kick while Striker reminds us that each man holds one of the seven ancient medallions. Vamp plugs his book on Amazon while Drago and Fly go at it. Fly is sent to the floor, so Hernandez comes in and is taken down a bit while Alberto comes in and wants Hernandez. Rudos attack him on the floor and Vamp approves of Alberto being beaten up. Mundo comes in to attack now of course.

A Mundo corner charge misses and Fly comes in and eats a big superkick. Aero’s in and fends him to the floor, so Evans comes in. Trust fall is turned into a backwards diving frog splash! Corkscrew dive to the floor from Sexy! Mundo trips Alberto and they chase each other around the building. Aero hits the fall, but Evans kicks him down. Hernandez is in and tosses Aero up for a powerbomb at 2. Mundo gets the running knee for 2.

Aero gets a sunset flip, but a blind tag brings Evans in for a diving kick. Sexy and Mundo have an awkward exchange and Hernandez train wrecks her down. Drago gets a tornado DDT and Alberto gets a back stabber. Albero armbars Evans, but Mundo hits the End of the World! Mundo and Sexy are legal and he rolls through a crossbody to win. I love the heel winning and pinning the woman to win, and cheating to do that.

Striker hypes up a confrontation next week between Mil Muertes and Prince Puma, but Vamp gets jumped by Pentagon! Vamp eats a nasty running punt to the chest and Pentagon douses Vamp in gasoline. Pentagon says that if Vamp doesn’t accept, he’ll burn him now. This ruled!

  • Lucha Underground July 1 TV results and recap: Prince Puma vs. Chavo Guerrero, Alberto El Patron

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, Sexy Star and Super Fly had a sloppy and sometimes scary match that Fly won. Aerostar won a medallion in a giant multi-man match, and Mil Muertes demolished Drago to become the number one contender to the Lucha Underground Title. As a result, he’ll receive a title shot at UltimaLucha. This week’s show begins with a recap of Chavo turning his back on Black Lotus and siding with Dario Cueto. The Texano vs. Daivari feud is recapped, followed by Catrina threatening Cueto to ensure that Mil got a shot at the LU title.

Cueto meets with Chavo in his office and Chavo asks for a request – he wants a title shot for giving him Black Lotus. Cueto makes it a no DQ match so the Crew can get involved and he also wants Konnan banned, so Cueto says if Konnan gets involved, Chavo wins the title. Mexican Dubwiser plays us in while Daivari is in the ring with Big Ryck. Striker puts Texano over as a young man who made history by being the youngest AAA champion ever.

    Daivari vs. Texano

Texano backdrops Daivari, who hides behind Ryck. Daivari hits him with punches in the corner, while Texano counters with giant overhand chops. Ryck trips Texano and Daivari clips the knee. Daivari attacks the knee and gets 2. Vamp ponders why the Globetrotters aren’t in the NBA Title picture and Striker says that they aren’t in the NBA while Daivari gets a figure four. Texano reverses it, but Daivari attacks him in the corner with knee strikes. Daivari X factors his way out of a powerbomb for 2. Texano ducks a bullrope shot from Ryack and hits a seated powerbomb for the win!

Puma works out and Konnan tells him that having the deck stacked against Puma won’t hurt him. Chavo isn’t a champion, but Puma is. Catrina teleports in and tells Puma that Muertes will destroy Puma and implies that Konnan will be taken out too. We get a cool Muertes vs. Puma staredown and Konnan tells Puma to avoid letting her get into his head.

Back in the Temple, Konnan talks to someone about how Mexico needs to pay Chavo back for what he did to Blue Demon Jr and okays an attack since he can’t be there. Hernandez comes out to face Drago, who is a huge babyface now thanks to his return from exile.

    Hernandez vs. Drago

Vamp loves Drago wearing black. Hernandez tries to overpower him, but he eats some kicks and clubbering on the back. Drago gets a springboard dropkick and a senton before kicking his chest in. Striker talks about Hernandez winning 20 major titles and Vamp wants proof, and Striker can’t offer any. Vamp talks about being KOed by a potato shot from Hernandez in Puerto Rico years ago. Hernandez snapmares him down for a neck vice submission. Train Wreck backbreaker hits for 2. Hernandez gets a one-armed powerslam-positioned gutbuster for 2. Drago comes back with kicks, including corner dropkicks. Hernandez goes up top, but gets stopped and eats a rana for 2.

Drago low-bridges Hernandez and hits a flip dive. Drago gets a springboard flip diving kick to the floor, which Vamp says proves that potatoes make for a great side with salad. Drago eats a Border Toss on the apron. Hernandez intimidates a “fan” and takes his belt off to whip Drago. Drago gets choked and Hernandez loses via DQ after they talk about Cueto wanting things to get a bit crazier before UltimaLucha. Hernandez says the dumbass fans don’t realize that dragons aren’t real and Drago’s just a man whose ass just got whipped. If anyone has a problem with that, he’ll kick their asses too.

Chavo shadow boxes backstage and Catrina tells him that a victory means his celebration will be short-lived. No matter what, Mil Muertes will destroy the champion. Chavo disrespects him and Muertes screams. Marty the Moth sniffs Melissa Santos and gets a “creeper” chant. Alberto comes down with the AAA Title and a huge “El Patron” chant. Alberto is in new blue and gold gear that looks slick.

Marty the Moth vs. Alberto El Patron

Alberto gets a shove into the corner and kicks away at him too. More kicks and punches land in the corner. Armbar codebreaker hits and the armbar is locked on. Alberto in squash match form is awesome, and the new color scheme looks sharp. A massive “El Patron” chant breaks out while Alberto grabs the mic. Alberto calls out Johnny Mundo and thanks for the wake-up call as it woke up something inside of him. He’s got a sadistic side and that’s what he’ll bring at UltimaLucha. Alberto is fantastic in squash matches and in long-form stuff too. Vamp talks about the main event and loves the anti-Konnan stip.

Melissa Santos brings us in and Chavo comes down with The Crew. Vamp says that Chavo isn’t riding on his family’s coat tails and could be champion. Vamp asks what’s happened to Bael since he’s been missing for weeks. Striker offers no update on him after his meeting with Matanza. Puma comes down with Konnan. Santos recaps the stipulation involving “Conan” while a fan calls Cueto a madman.

Lucha Underground Champion Prince Puma vs. Chavo Guerrero

Mid-ring, they flip around a bit off a collar and elbow tie-up. Chavo gets a side headlock mid-ring, but eats an armdrag and an armbar. Puma flips over Chavo, and The Crew attacks with the kendo stick and a cheapshot. Puma sends the goons into each other, but eats a double stomp/DDT combo. Texano comes down as Konnan’s enforcer and runs wild on the goons. 630 hits and Puma wins. Well, this was the most nothing Lucha Underground Title match ever. Texano says that Mexico’s coming to Chavo, while Striker says that Chavo should be commended for doing whatever he could to “Guerrero” the title.

The show closes with skyline shots taking us to the locker room. Blue Demon Jr. comes in and says he doesn’t fight those who are already hurt. Chavo talks smack and gets slammed into lockers over and over. Chavo smiles because he apparently got what he wanted.

  • Lucha Underground June 24 results & recap: Drago vs. Mil Muertes No. 1 contender’s match

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, Johnny Mundo and Prince Puma had a crazy show-long match. The all night long match was, of course, an invention of Dario Cueto and another example of how Lucha Underground can take something that could easily fail – like a TV iron man match, and make it compelling through the whole show. It had a lot of bells and whistles like stunts, but some cute things like using the band and bandstand throughout the match. Puma was down by a ton of falls, which led to Mundo stalling, but Puma eventually retained thanks to Alberto, who will seemingly be Mundo’s next big rival.

This week’s show begins with a recap of Dario’s announcement of the ancient medallions. Drago’s return is covered, as is Catrina threatening Cueto’s life to make tonight’s Muertes vs. Drago number one contender’s match. We get a recap of Mundo slamming Alberto through Cueto’s window, and Alberto costing Mundo his title shot last week. At Ultima Lucha, Mundo will face Alberto. Sexy Star is in the ring twirling around with her wristband cape. Super Fly comes down for his first match since losing his mask against Sexy, and attacking her during her match with Pentagon Jr.

They throw to a Vamp-Super Fly interview where they replay his attack on Sexy. Sexy took his mask, so he wanted to take something from her. Vamp says she didn’t steal his mask and she beat him. Fly says he got authorization for a rematch, and Vamp had better not interfere. He rubbed his braced elbow after the arm snapper from Pentagon.

Match One – Sexy Star vs. Super Fly

Super Fly superkicks her down and gets 2 off an elbow. He gets a running back elbow and Striker says that unmasking is a chance to be reborn. He dropkicks her down, but he ducks down and eats kicks for 2. Running big boot to Sexy sends her to the corner and he stomps away. He gets 2 off an awkward cover. He kicks the hamstring a few times and headbutts her, but she avoids a punch by grabbing the arm and getting a wacky arm drag off the top. A cradle gets 2 for Sexy. He punches her in the face hard and he follows up with some leg kicks. Super Fly gets a super-light AA and a side senton dive for 2. Sexy backdrops him high over the top in a beautiful move. She dives off the top onto him, and he barely catches her. This has not exactly been a pretty match.

She gets a tornado armdrag on the floor using the apron. She climbs up and she hits something off the top to the knee. She kicks his back and gets a legdrop for 2. Fly gets a light powerbomb and then a sitout variant for the win. This wasn’t very good, and borderline awful at points, but was pretty captivating because you never knew what was going to happen. Fly tries to get her mask, but she frees herself. Medallion five way match is up next.

But first, we get a dubstep montage of Drago looking cool and doing things with nunchuks against the sunlight. The referee holds up the bag with the medallion, and he’s got two broken fingers. Pentagon Jr. comes down to a sea of cheers, claps, and the fans chanting his catchphrase. Melissa Santos leaves the ring because he’s crazy. Pentagon wants to prove that he’s the only luchador with zero fear, and he must destroy the man who prevented his sacrifice – Vampiro! He bows up to vamp, who pushes him back to a huge “Vampiro” chant. Vamp prepares to take his shirt off and says something I think probably would’ve been bleeped on any other network. Pentagon leaves, so we’ve got a four way next.

Match Two – Cage vs. vs. Marty the Moth vs. The Mack vs. Aerostar

Aerostar gets 2 off a rana on Marty. Mack flips out of a dragon suplex – or he did the All Japan no-sell, hard to tell with the camera angle. Cage throws mack into the barricade on the floor. Marty clotheslines Aerostar down and Vamp profiles Marty the Moth as a member of law enforcement. Aero dives on the pile. Aero is caught by Cage in a fallaway slam setup, and after doing some curls, he tosses him over the top literally like it’s a video game. Deadlift apron superplex to Marty gets 2. Aero sends Mack down and gets a springboard senton for 2.

Aero hits Mack with an elbow, but he eats a slam and a standing moonsault for 2. Mart pump kicks Mack for 2. On the floor, Cage hits a deadlift apron backdrop onto Aero. Mack avoids a suplex and tosses Marty to the apron, but he waves and gets a dive and a charging dropkick in the corner. Cage gets the discus lariat on Mack for 2. Shock treatment gets 2 on Marty. Aero and Marty dropkick Cage, but he clotheslines them both down. Mack and Cage brawl on the floor, but Mack gets posted.

Apron exploder by Mack to Cage on the apron. Well, that’s right out of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. Mack dives onto Cage and Marty climbs and flaps. Aero kicks him and does a rope to rope rana instead of just climbing up, but wins after a dive.

The trios champs train and Ivie eats some shots and complains. Catrina comes in and seductively warns her. Then the Disciples of Death appear from behind the champions as if they’re Putties from Power Rangers, kick their asses and Mil and Catrina leave hand in hand. This act is so much more fun now that they’ve added all of this goofy stuff to it. Drago comes down and then gets jumped by Hernandez, who beats the crap out of him with a belt. He chokes him out and we go to a break. The referee asks Drago if he wants to compete, and then Muertes comes down and the crowd chants “mamacita” at Catrina.

Main Event – Drago vs. Mil Muertes – Number One Contender’s Match

Mil tosses him into the corner off a tie-up and punches away. Drago avoids a shoulder charge, but can’t get a German suplex. Drago gets a run-up sliced bread, but Mil sits up. Drago gets a kick, but eats an overhead belly to belly. Mil tosses him into the corner for another beating. Drago avoids a press slam and gets a superkick to the gut and a spinning headscissors. Spear to Drago leads to a series of rope chops. Drago ducks down and sends Mil to the floor for a big dive. Mil tosses him into the post and then into the fans and beats him with chairs. Crowd alternates between a “holy shit” and “this is awesome” chant.

Drago rises up and Mil spears him into the chairs again. Mil powerbombs him onto the announce table, which doesn’t budge at all. Mil tosses him in and a big “Drago” chant breaks out. Drago fights back and gets a springboard DDT! Mil reverses the Dragon’s Tail cradle and punches away. Mil holds him up, punches his face, then gets a straightjacket flatliner for the win and the Ultima Lucha title shot! Drago gets the lick of death and Prince Puma comes down with Konnan and we get a staredown to close the show.

  • Lucha Underground June 17 TV results & recap: Puma vs. Johnny Mundo Iron Man title match

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, Drago was awesome from the beginning of the show until the end and won a multi-man match to get a future Lucha Underground title shot. However, Catrina strangled Cueto to give Mil Muertes a shot at Drago’s shot. Catrina also debuted her Disciples of Death trios team, who beat a team of wacky babyfaces. Tonight, we’ll get Dario Cueto’s latest invention – the all-night long match that apparently other companies have called an iron man match.

This week’s show begins with a recap of Johnny Mundo’s feud with Alberto, Mundo’s heel turn where he threw Alberto through Dario’s office window, and a bit of his issues with Prince Puma. They had the first main event in the company’s history, and their match tonight will be the sole focus of the event. Mexican Dubwiser plays us into the Temple. Vamp, in a black and blue bowling shirt calls Striker sexy and Striker runs down tonight’s event. Mundo is already mid-ring, as is Puma.

Main Event – Prince Puma vs. Johnny Mundo – Iron Man Match for the Lucha Underground Title

They stare down and we get a win counter in the bottom left-hand corner instantly. There isn’t a clock there, however. After some mid-ring exchanges, Mundo gets a crotch lift slam for 2. Crowd chants “f*ck him up, Puma”, which goes unbleeped. Mundo kicks him, but Puma ducks down and gets a flipping headscissors, but eats a kick on the apron and goes to the floor. Puma avoids a dive and hits one of his own on the floor. Dramatic music takes us to a break eight minutes into the show, without a single fall.

We get a countdown clock, showing 33 minutes and some change and Puma gets 2 off a cradle. Snap victory roll cradle gets a pin for Puma, bringing us to 1-0. Mundo gets some ground and pound, while the crowd chants “Johnny Puto” at him. Puma recovers and gets a standing moonsault for 2. In the corner, Puma gets a chop and kicks Mundo coming in for an attack. Mundo starts working on the arm with a series of kicks, but Puma comes back with a cutter. Mundo cheats with the ropes to get a pin and even things up.

We have 28:10 left on the clock after a break and Puma gets 2 off a schoolboy. They fight up top and have a boo/yay punch exchange. Puma wins and sends him onto the apron for a pop-over rana ala Sami Zayn’s DDT, but over the top off the apron. Johnny goes under the ring and gets pulled back out, revealing a chair and toolbox – resulting in Striker making a Hornswoggle joke since that’s the one thing he didn’t find. Fireman’s carry slam from Puma through the toolbox! Mundo crowbars him to the gut and then to the head. Mundo sends him in and gets a win, giving him a 2 to 1 edge. Vamp tells him to cover him now, while Striker says it’s all ego preventing that. Moonlight Drive gives him a 3 to 1 edge. Flying Chuck leads to Striker now wondering about concussions. End of the World hits for a 4 to 1 edge.

Mundo gives him time and Puma gets Konnan rolling lariat into a DDT, but Mundo puts his foot on the rope. Mundo gets a “goddamn!” neckbreaker on the apron, as dubbed by Vampiro before an ad break. Mundo gets a ladder and lines it up with Puma’s head to blast him once again in the skull. Mundo puts the ladder up on the balcony area so he can set a table up. Mundo smashes Puma into the entrance way while Vamp tells Mundo to just wait it out. Mundo climbs up to dive, but Puma meets him. Puma slams him onto the floor, resulting in a nasty thud.

Puma sets up three tables do destroy Mundo. Make that four. Well, they found new wrinkles for an iron man match – and it’s made for a great 40 minutes so far. Puma prepares for a superplex off the structure, but gets superkicked off the structure and right onto the floor – just missing the tables. Mundo jumps to the bandstand and grabs the mic. He rattles off the 4-1 score to get heat and Vamp says he’s just killing time. He tells the band to sing while he drinks water and the clock winds down from 13 minutes. Puma’s had enough of this shit and grabs a 2×4 and smacks Mundo on the head. He el kabongs Mundo with a Mexican flag-painted guitar that TNA should’ve tried selling when Jarrett was AAA Champion and spears Mundo off the structure through the tables, getting a giant “holy shit” chant from the fans and Striker.

We get the second replay in show history, and Puma has only 11 minutes to work with to retain his title and overcome the 4-to-1 disadvantage. He drags him to the ring and gets a win, so it’s now Mundo with 4 wins and Puma with 2. Mundo punches away while Vamp talks about Puma’s arm being hurt a bit. A boo/yay punch exchange leads to a Frye/Takayama exchange and a double lariat. One man alarm clock hits and he gets 3 off a Cradle Shock. Striker yells a whole bunch of sporting cliches in five seconds.

Mundo runs out the clock on the floor, but eats a kick mid-ring, and avoids a Phoenix splash. Mundo runs up the steps to avoid contact, but Alberto attacks him! He kicks him down the steps and tosses him into the office and then the announce table – which has its own camera, so that looked awesome. Puma hits the Cradle Shock for 3 yet again. Alberto says he’s here and his issue with Mundo isn’t over yet. If Mundo wins, he’ll take his title and he’ll be ready for Puma, too.

Three minutes remain and cradles get 2, while a C4 from Mundo gets 2. Mundo goes for the End of the World, but it misses with 48 seconds left. Pushing dropkick hits Mundo, setting him up for the 630. It hits and he gets the final pinfall for a 5-4 victory.

  • AAA Verano de Escandalo results: Brian Cage vs. Alberto El Patron, Rey Mysterio in six-man tag

    Submitted by Robert Bihari

AAA ran Verano De Escandalo on iPPV tonight at Arena Monterrey. Video was pretty dark and avoided showing the upper sections as much as they could but I heard from a couple people live the place was only barely over half full with a lot of late arrivers padding that number.

Quality of the feed was a step down from the World Cup and way down from Rey De Reyes. Lots of choppy video as the show went on & random black screens would pop up that said “Poor Signal”. Luckily those screens just flashed at times so no action was missed. But had the show gone longer than 3 hours I doubt the feed would have survived much longer without them having to reset it or fix it some other way.

As mentioned the show went almost exactly 3 hours and started right on time which is rare for AAA! No dark match.

    Elegido/Pimpinela Escarlata/Dinastia/Fabi Apache vs Machine Rocker/Mamba/Mini Psycho Clown/Taya Valkyrie

Machine Rocker was subbing for Parka Negra who got bumped up. A solid opener with everyone getting a chance to shine. The best stuff was when Dinastia was in there with Mini Psycho Clown. They did lots of creative stuff as a slight preview of their upcoming title match on 6/27. Machine Rocker being inserted here helped a lot as he is one of the more unknown super talented guys in AAA who just needs an opportunity. He based well for Elegido & Pimpinela at various points including taking the old Psicosis bump off the ropes except he flew too high and almost sent himself to the floor!

After a short rudo beatdown they did a dive sequence which saw Dinastia do a twisting plancha on Psycho, Taya did a plancha & Pimpi followed with a weird twisting dive off the first turnbuckle. Kind of a surprise finish with Machine Rocker making Elegido submit to a Boston Crab as Mamba power bombed Fabi.

Aero Star vs Fenix vs Drago vs Laredo Kid vs Daga vs Super Fly vs Bengala vs Hijo Del Fantasma vs Super Nova vs Steve Pain – Alas De Oro

The image to hype the match clearly teased Flamita as the mystery guy but it ended up being Laredo Kid. Not sure why they had to keep that a secret unless he wasn’t the original plan. Honestly nothing I write here will be able to describe this match & I would urge everyone out there to find a way to watch this as soon as possible. It was pure madness. As soon as the whistle went there was a quintuple running somersault plancha spot which set the tone of what was to come. Dives everywhere. At the end I think there were 17 or 18 in total. Just one guy after another getting his spots in and ending the sequence with a dive. Steve Pain did a great job in his return here basing for various guys and always being around to make catches on seriously out of control dives. At one point he even took a frankensteiner off the apron to the floor from Drago which looked no fun.

About halfway during the match Daga went to suplex Fenix into the ring from the apron but instead gave him an ill-adivsed brainbuster dropping Fenix badly on his shoulder. As guys kept going the doctor came out to check on Fenix who wouldn’t stand still to be looked at. A couple minutes later Laredo Kid did a 450 splash on Super Nova. Fenix was supposed to follow with his own 450 onto both of them but couldn’t get the rotation with his presumably dislocated shoulder and ended up double stomping Laredo in the back. The doctor & an official then basically dragged Fenix out of the ring and eventually put him on a stretcher with him visibly crying. Hopefully he’s okay.

With Fenix gone the match continued (it never stoped really) and after some more big spots it came down to Drago using his finishing roll-up to pin Aero Star. An amazing spectacle far blowing away CMLL’s version of this match called the Reyes Del Aire. Joaquin Roldan presented Drago with a giant Alas De Oro trophy and all the tecnicos congratulated him. Kudos to all 10 guys involved here for risking their bodies for our entertainment.

Psycho Circus (Psycho Clown/Monster Clown/Murder Clown) vs Hell Brothers (Cibernetico/Averno/Chessman) vs Holocausto (Electro Shock/Hijo De Pirata Morgan/Parka Negra) – AAA Trios Titles

Parka Negra was filling in for Kronoz who broke or fractured his ankle a few days ago. He fit in well here as the Holocausto team used a bunch of creative triple team spots throughout the match. It was mostly a brawl with all the heat on the clowns as the crowd eagerly awaited their comeback. When it came it got a real loud pop as they whipped everyone with their belts. Some weapons got involved including some chairs & a board. Cibernetico delivered a vicious baseball swing style chairshot at Monster Clown’s head at one point. Later Psycho & Murder clown speared Averno & Chessman through a board inside the ring. The same clowns ended up taking out Pirata & Parka Negra with tope suicidas. Monster Clown followed with a big plancha. Finish came when (cameras missed it) Averno used a low blow on Psycho Clown, Chessman speared him & Cibernetico hit the choke slam so the Hell Brothers won the belts.

After the match the teams all cut promos on each other and brawled some more. The idea seemed to be teasing a cage match at Triplemania with the Clowns putting up their masks, Holocausto putting up their hairs & Hell Brothers putting up their titles.

Angelico/Jack Evans vs Cuervo/Escoria – Cage (Hair Match)

It wasn’t made clear until the ring introductions that this was a double hair match. This was actually a really good match far from the spotfest a lot of people were expecting. Angelico/Jack played the underdog role getting beat on and thrown into the cage a lot. They’d make quick comebacks before getting shut down over and over again including Escoria running up the cage as Jack climbed and bringing him down with a wild inverted frankensteiner somehow throwing Jack head first into the other side of the cage. At another point Jack creatively escaped the rudos and jumped off both of them to esape but they brought him back in with a double superplex off the top of the cage. When Jack/Angelico got a short advantage they did their usual double team moves including Angelico assisting Jack into a 450 splash with both his feet ending up kneeing Cuervo in the head. That looked rough.

Both rudos ended up bleeding eventually. Jack looked like he was about to finally escape but decided against it and did a backflip off the top of the cage in order to save Angelico from a 2-on-1 disadvantage. Two tables ended up being set up side-by-side near the corner. Jack/Cuervo climbed one side, Angelico/Escoria climbed the other. Angelico slipped away from Escoria’s clutches while Jack threw Cuervo off the top of the cage through one table as Cuervo’s head smacked the other table. So the tecnicos jumped down and the rudos got their heads shaved almost completely before they offered a handshake and ended up attacking the tecnicos. This was real good and up until this point the show was a home run.

Alberto El Patron vs Brian Cage – AAA Mega Heavyweight Title

They set the tone right away with Texano seconding Cage & Demon with Alberto. But even worse… Hijo de Tirantes was referee so anyone who has seen any AAA knew exactly where this was going. Nowhere good. Early on Alberto did a tope suicida with such force that he overshot Cage (who did not try overly hard to make the catch) and took a vicious header that could have been a disaster. Luckily he got up looking pissed but not injured. Then the fun began… Texano started interfering freely in front of Tirantes. Demon tried to counteract the interference but Tirantes wouldn’t let him and eventually kicked him out of the match. Alberto kept fighting back from the 2-on-1 attack only to be stopped by Tirantes physically jumping in over and over. Cage went for his own tope suicida but Alberto smashed him in the head with a full force chair shot in a really great spot but seconds later Cage was back up on offense so I didn’t really get the purpose in that. To add to all the nonsense, when Cage started doing his big moves Tirantes, who had been fast counting Alberto all match long, suddenly decided it was time to start counting normally. Why?

As this nonsense continued the crowd kept getting more and more impatient and not in the good way. Alberto finally got rid of Texano and had the armbar on Cage who tried to escape over and over before finally getting locked in and clearly tapping out. Except Tirantes refused to call the submission. So stupid. Pentagon Jr. & Hijo Del Fantasma ran out to jump Alberto but he took them out including whiffing on a superkick to Pentagon. He then knocked Tirantes down and superkicked him out cold.

Alberto had the win but there was no referee to count. Second ref El Piero slowly made his way to ringside but by the time he got there Cage was back up and used Weapon X on Alberto. Piero didn’t know what to do and looked to the crowd for advice. He signalled to them not to cheer, got down and counted 3, Cage got up to celebrate…………… and then Piero waived his arms and raised Alberto’s hand. I guess Alberto won by DQ but who knows what the DQ was actually for. This was all so dumb and embarassing. Cage beat up Alberto afterwards including draping the American flag on him and posing. Crowd was very indifferent to all this and never got back up for the main event.  The rudo referee spot has it’s place on house shows in Mexico but too many times (read: every time) AAA uses it as a crutch for getting out of finishes on major shows. It needs to go away if the promotion is ever going to be taken seriously again or the title is ever meant to mean anything.

By the way, where did Blue Demon Jr. end up going?

Rey Misterio Jr./Myzteziz/La Parka vs Johnny Mundo/El Mesias/Pentagon Jr.

As hinted at – Rey Jr. did his Terminator style entrance which included two guys on motorcycles, an actual Terminator & Rey in a black/silver get-up to match the theme. Myzteziz wore all pink for some reason. Mundo came out to ‘Born In The USA’ in a t-shirt instead of his Lucha Underground look. This match was very strange. Crowd was not all that into it, likely due to the nonsense they had just witnessed. Wrestlers seemed not motivated at all as the match quickly degenerated into a house show style match where the rudos dominated with weak brawling. They set up Parka for the comeback which he messed up but then Rey/Myzteziz did some combo spots to make up for it. Parka/Mesias did some half-hearted brawling in the crowd.

Parka then worked some spots with the rudos and messed up a headscissors very badly and covered by dancing. This was bad. Then the match just kinda paused with everyone standing around doing nothing. Myzteziz worked a nice spot or two with Mundo and that was it for him. Rey Jr. then did spots with all the rudos and looked great doing assisted ranas & teasing a 619. Parka ended up taking Meisas out with a very soft tope suicida. Myzteziz had the doctor checking on him while on the apron but came back in to do a running somersault dive onto Pentagon. Rey went for the 619 on Mundo who escaped to the floor and Myzteziz dove through Rey’s legs with a tope suicida taking Mundo out as Rey backflipped off the ropes onto Pentagon’s shoulders for a tornado DDT.

He nailed Pentagon with the 619 and then hit a picture perfect brutal looking flying Canadian Destroyer which Pentagon took like a champ for the win. Aside from the hot finishing stretch this was a completely ordinary house show style match with the weak brawling & not-so-funny comedy from Parka. Never felt like a big show main event. Mundo could just as easily not have even been in the match since Texano was in the building doing nothing.

I guess the big news coming out of the show is they never hyped anything for Triplemania. They kinda teased a cage match with the trios teams & post-show Alberto challenged Cage to a hair match inside of a cage but on the actual show they showed no sign of any directions for the top guys which was a bit disappointing.

  • Lucha Underground June 10 TV results & report: Cage vs. Hernandez vs. Drago vs. King Cuerno

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

Last week, Jack Evans had a really fun match with Argenis and gained his first win in the company. He also won an ancient medallion from Dario Cueto. Chavo Guerrero turned heel after a couple of weeks as a babyface by luring Black Lotus into an attack by Cueto’s crew and they’re threatening her with Cueto’s brother – Motunza, who killed Bael a few weeks back. The Trios champions retained against Daivari, Ryck, and Cage thanks to Texano. Pentagon Jr. beat Sexy Star in a submission match using a modified surfboard and not his usual arm snapper. Vampiro left the table and went to save Sexy Star from being a victim, and then smashed his head into a mirror while we heard him talk about the darkness via commentary clips. He’s found his personal dark side, and he’s set to unleash Hell soon enough.

The show begins with a recap of Chavo’s saga in the company and the end of Drago. Drago is shown above the Temple with wings in a really badass shot diving down. Los Rayobacks sing us in while Vamp apologizes for getting in the ring last week. Striker says that Sexy will only be out a couple of weeks. Dario Cueto says that in ten weeks, we’ll have Ultima Lucha! It will be a yearly event with the biggest fights and tonight, we’ll determine who fights for the title at Ultima Lucha. He has invited all of Prince Puma’s past opponents – but Fenix can’t compete because Mil Muertes killed him. Of course, since he left out Drago and we just saw Drago, we know he’ll be in this. Sometimes, predictable is very good. Blue Demon Jr. will be at Ultima Lucha and he comes down to the ring in a suit. Dario says that he’s made a match tonight to prevent ring rust – a match with Chavo and The Crew, sans Bael due to the monster Motunza.

Blue Demon Jr. vs. Chavo Guerrero – Anything Goes

Demon is working in a suit and eats a kick to the face from Chavo. Striker talks about the Guerrero dynasty including Shaul. They fight on the floor and Demon gets some forearm strikes. The Crew jumps Demon and Vamp says he hates Demon. Chavo canes the daylights out of him. The Crew beats him up and Chavo wins with a frog splash. We get another badass shot of Drago flapping his wings and looking cool. Chavo talks to Black Lotus in her cell as they pan over to Motunza, who we just hear growl.

Dario is threatened by Drago, who logically points out that he’s faced Prince Puma. Cueto says that he’s been banished, but he’s found a loophole. He’s in the match, but he must win to stay in the company and he’ll lose his mask as well. Drago accepts the terms – this was excellent!

Catrina and her catsuit bring The Disciples of Death down to the ring. They have white, purple, and gold trim. The faces come down as Vamp talks about them being silly and Striker says that they’re livers of a free life. This is an odd matchup, but could be really good – sometimes clashes in styles work out.

The Disciples of Death vs. Pimpinella Escarlata, Mascarita Sagrada, and Bengala

The Disciples are gobsmacked by Pimpi, who dances around and eats chops. Chop exchange between Gold and Pimpi. Pimpi doesn’t call it the rear view, but does prevent a corner charge with his ass. Pimpi dives into the crowd and kisses a fan. Ground tag to Bengala. Bengala’s gear is like a zebra version of Ultimo Dragon’s. The Disciples team up on Bengala, who gets a big chant already. Double-jump Lionsault to a disciple, but Gold attacks with a kick to the jaw.

Iffy swinging rana off the top to Gold leads to a triangle jumping corkscrew dive to the floor! Sagrada comes in and is beaten up by White and tossed around. All three buzzsaw kick Sagrada! Pimpi gets tossed around and Bengala eats more kicks. Wacky lucha things send Sagrada into the corner and then into the other corner via flips. The Disciples get a double wheelbarrow doomsday device missile dropkick. They dump Sagrada over the top onto Bengala. Pimpi dropkicks two of them to the floor, but eats a boot. Catrina does the lick of death and they hit a triple dominator for the win. This was an interesting match to watch, and got over The Disciples as a serious threat.

Vampiro hypes up the return of Drago tonight. Johnny Mundo goes into Dario’s office and asks why he isn’t in the title match qualifier tonight since he faced Puma. Cueto says that he wants him to be champion by the time Ultima Lucha starts. Sure, Mundo gave him a black eye – but he looks great in sunglasses. He loved seeing Johnny put Alberto through a window and views him as the future of Lucha Underground. Mundo says he knows that he’s better than Puma, and Cueto says that he has a new concept – Prince Puma vs. Mundo in an iron man match. This eight month old company has managed to reinvent the Royal Rumble and make stipulation matches seem like a big deal, so the idea of a Mundo vs. Puma iron man match should turn out to be excellent in execution.

Melissa Santos is mid-ring and announces tonight’s four way main event. Cage comes out first, followed by King Cuerno. Hernandez and his new black and white gear are out, while Drago rounds out the field to a huge pop. Drago comes down with his wings while the announcers act shocked – that’s a bit odd. Drago has new shiny black gear and Hernandez looks scared shitless. Drago also has a new, scarier mask while Santos says that a loss here banishes Drago and he’ll have to unmask.

Cage vs. Hernandez vs. Drago vs. King Cuerno – Ultima Lucha Title Match 4-Way

Cage and Hernandez start it off, but are then followed by Drago and Cuerno. Flipping headscissors by Drago and a lucha drop-down exchange gets 2 for Drago. Drago gets a pop-up facebuster, but eats a Very Mexican uppercut from Cuerno. Hernandez gorilla presses Hernandez, but Cage prevents a Border Toss. Cage kicks away at him and takes him down with a dropkick. Striker talks about Cage wanting to be a pro skateboarder, but he couldn’t beat anyone up there.

Drago hops off of Cage for a rana to Cuerno. Cage tosses Drago to the floor before Cuerno and Cage team up to kick Hernandez and then double suplex him. Cage hits an Okada flying elbow before a Cuerno dive, but Drago prevents a pin. Drago low-bridges Cage and ranas Cuerno. Cuerno and Cage are hit with a double lariat, but the impact sends Drago down instead. Powerbomb and lungblower combo by Cage and Cuerno. Cage catches Drago and tosses him while glaring at Cuerno. Hernandez clubs Cuerno down, but he comes back with strikes and chops him hard in the ropes. Hernandez pounces him and sends him flying.

Hernandez and Drago square off, and Drago trips him up. A Superfly dive gets 2 for Drago. Killshot is standing high on the perch above the commentators. Cage tries to attack Cuerno from behind, but he senses him, ducks a lariat, then a discus and catches Drago for a Finlay roll. Cage moonsaults him and Cuerno hits a flying knee to the gut. Hernandez gets the inverted torture rack gutbuster to Cuerno, but eats a double jump moonsault from Cage.

Vamp asks why no one is going for a cover and Striker says they’ll give up their backs in the process. Running rana to Cuerno from Drago leads to a corkscrew dive from Cuerno to him on the floor. Hernandez turns into a dive attempt, but eats a big forearm before faking Cage out and Taker diving the pile.

Cage moonsaults on the pile on the floor and lands right on his knees. Cuerno is mid-ring for the Arrow of Death, and sends it to Killshot. Cuerno dives onto Cage and Drago since Hernandez left the scene immediately and tosses Cuerno into the ring to kick his ass. He comes in, but eats a flip powerbomb by Drago to the floor! Drago uses mist on Cuerno and wins with his wacky lucha cradle! Drago is the new number one contender and will face whoever the champion is at Ultima Lucha!

The crowd goes crazy for Drago. He gets a series of chants and stares down Puma mid-ring. Cueto looks out of his office and Catrina says that he should have put Muertes in the match. Catrina says that every man immortal or mortal craves power, and Muertes kills everything in his way. Cueto says that he’ll face Drago in two weeks and the winner faces the champion at Ultima Lucha. She tells him that Motunza is no match for Mil Muertes as Cueto just looks shocked. This was a super-fun episode of the show and well worth going out of your way to see. It would be nice if they hadn’t deflated Drago’s big win here by ending the show with him, like Hernandez, having to defend his contendership.

  • Lucha Underground 6-3-15 TV Report – Sexy Star vs. Pentagon Jr. Submission Match

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

    The Big Takeaway

Chavo turned heel on Black Lotus after selling out to Dario Cueto, who threatened Black Lotus with her brother – the monster who killed Bael last week and killed Lotus’s parents. Jack Evans also won an ancient medallion by beating Argenis, while the Trios champions beat Big Ryck, Cage, and Daivari to defend their titles. In the main event, Pentagon Jr. beat Sexy Star with the help of Super Fly, who Sexy Star beat a while back in a mask vs. mask match.

    Show Recap

Last week, Lucha Underground featured Hernandez’s best singles match to date as he lost to Prince Puma in a Lucha Underground title match. Johnny Mundo also used a more physical and grounded style as a heel to earn a victory over Aerostar. In the main event, Fenix was powerbombed to the depths of Hell by Mil Muertes and Bael had his face eaten by Dario Cueto’s brother.

We start the show with a rundown of the issues between Sexy Star and Pentagon Jr., including the arm snap of Super Fly. The trios title ladder match is recapped and the super dropkick is shown. Sexy Star beating Pentagon Jr. a month or so ago is shown as well. Last week’s murder wasn’t shown though. Cueto meets with Chavo, who says that he quit, but Black Lotus is here and was trained by Dragon Azteca.

Cueto apparently hired Chavo to take her out, and Chavo tells Cueto that he’s siding with whoever the highest bidder is. Cueto grabs tons of cash, and Chavo tells him to just get him protection in Mexico. A band sings us in as Vamp welcomes us to the show. Striker hypes up tonight featuring the first submission match in company history, and there will be a trios title match too. Jack Evans comes down to the ring as Vampiro talks about the history of the term “gringo”. Argenis comes down face the brash young rudo. Cueto tells Argenis that he comes from a great family, but no one cares about him. I loved Evans saying that it’s completely true, and Cueto says that Evans lost, so whoever wins the match here gets a medallion.

Match One – Jack Evans vs. Argenis

Striker talks about Argenis’s family and Evans cheapshots him. Evans grabs his chin and slams him down hard. Jack hits a round kick to the chest against the ropes, but a springboard rana is countered by Argenis with a powerbomb. Argensis gets a big low blow and a huge pop for it. Evans yells about his testicles, and then kicks Argenis all over. Standing corkscrew moonsault from Evans gets 2. Argenis clips the knee from the front up top, but Evans rolls through with a reverse flying armbar.

Striker talks about Evans being a blue belt in BJJ while Vamp puts over his Muay Thai background. Back elbow hits from Evans. Mid-ring handspring elbow is met with a German by Argenis. Evans is sent to the floor and hits a flip dive. Evans responds with a flip dive into a rana that is not quite smooth, but works. Argenis bonks him into the “rusty” railing for 2. Argenis gets a Backlund lift into a Michinoku driver for 2. Evans gets a backslide with a bridge for the win! This was short, but pretty fun. They don’t even show him getting the medallion – instead, they just go to a Star-Pentagon showdown video.

In the locker room, Daiva tells Ryck that they’ve got a trios title match tonight. Ryck says they should pick The Mack, and Cage kicks Mack’s ass to get in the match. He tosses him into the lockers, knocks them down, and then slams him down onto them. Ryck is told to leave his cousin, and does so reluctantly. Chavo tells Lotus that Cueto agreed to let her wrestle, and Chavo told her she can her hands on Motenza and then she kicks Chavo’s ass. She knows something’s up, and avoids a sneak attack by The Crew, but is jumped by Chavo, who grabs cuffs. Well, this was a series of unexpected things that all worked out nicely.

The band sings us in for the next match – the trios title match. As the heels come down, Striker says that while the challengers may seem thrown together, Cueto must think highly of them. Vampiro chastises them for smoking AND drinking on the way to the ring. The champs come down and Ivie is still on crutches, but in fairly small ring gear. She’s hopping down step by step, which seems like a great way to put too much strain on the other foot.

Match Two – Daivari, Big Ryck, and Cage vs. Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angelico

Angelico kicks away at Cage, who chucks him around. Nice European uppercut by Cage leads to corner shoulder charges, but he rushes in and eats an elbow. He darts off the the ropes and Havoc tags in. They argue and Vamp tells these fools to stop arguing and look at the opponents. Daivari tags in and eats a tilt a whirl headscissors and a Muta-style handspring elbow. Leg trip leads to a standing moonsault for 2.

Ivie yells to be tagged in as Daivari hits a jawbreaker. Corner strike exchange leads to Angelico and Cage tagging in again. Flying forearm smashes to Cage and Ryck help him out, but Cage hits a press slam and Ryck comes in. Ivie sits in the crowd and Ryck gets 2. Ryck beats him down in the corner and tags in Daivari as Vamp calls him a money stooge. Daivari tosses him down for 2. Ryck gets a delayed suplex and Cage tags in to take over for the suplex – love that. A pumphandle slam is countered with kicks from Angelico. Powerbomb hits for Cage and gets 2. Angelico reverses another powerbomb into a schoolboy for 2. Flying knee takes Cage down. Ryck comes in and bowls Angelico over to prevent a tag.

Daivari comes in with a backdrop. Daivari talks smack to Ivie and shoves her down while Texano comes down and helps out the faces leading to a Havoc SSP off the top for the win! This was a really fun match, and it furthered Texano’s face turn since he’ll help out others in a situation that doesn’t automatically help him. Pentagon Jr. vs. Sexy Star is up next.

We return to Cueto’s office as Chavo and The Crew bring Lotus in tied up and Cueto threatens he with his brother so he never gets lonely again. And then we just get the “lu-cha” chants and neither commentator has thoughts on this. Well, that’s a bit odd. Pentagon Jr. comes down and Striker talks about him leaving a lot of broken bodies in his path. Logically, Pentagon Jr. should’ve come down second so Sexy could be there to protect Melissa Santos from him if need be.

Main Event – Pentagon Jr. vs. Sexy Star – Submission Match

Pentagon grabs the mic and says he’ll break Sexy Star because HE IS…interrupted rudely by Sexy Star. He chops the hell out of her and sends her down. Wind up chop to the chest. Jesus. Corner clothesline from Pentagon is met with a corner lariat, but Pentagon regains control. Pentagon goes for the arm snapper and she avoids it by smashing his face with her knee. Vamp says his 14 year old daughter looks up to Sexy Star while Striker puts her in the same company as Ronda Rousey and Danica Patrick.

Running rana by Sexy sends him to the floor where he eats a flip dive. Sexy kicks away against the stage and then tosses him into the post. Sexy tosses him off the ropes and superkicks him down before getting a leglock and grinding on the neck before modifying it a bit with a neck crank. Pentagon gets her into a tombstone position, but turns it into a submission by locking his body and her knees, leading to her turning it into a makeshift La Mistica.

They trade kicks, but Pentagon wins that war. Pentagon locks on an inverted Edgucator and Sexy gets the ropes. Pentagon responds with a superkick from Hell to the jaw. They go to the floor and she climbs up the barricade for a crossbody block. Sexy gets a spinebuster and a half crab. Super Fly comes in and slaps her and throws her into a package piledriver and locks on the surfboard before adding in a necklock and getting the win. This was pretty good too – another fine night of action here, and Pentagon Jr. gets another dangerous move in his arsenal. Vamp prevents an arm snap as the crowd chants wildly for him. Striker talks about “what Vampiro used to be” setting up him wanting to come back and then Striker says a whole bunch of silly things in a row before we go to the locker room for a monologue with Vampiro running through what he’s said before as he headbutts the mirror and finds the darknesss within.

  • Lucha Underground 5-27-15 results & TV report: Prince Puma vs. Hernandez title match

    By Jeremy Peeples, WrestlingObserver.com

    The Big News

Prince Puma retained his title against Hernandez and The Crew’s loss last week resulted in one of them being killed off by Dario’s Cueto’s “monster” brother. Mil Muertes also powerbombed Fenix through the ceiling of Cueto’s office and sent him to Hell in the process to win their death match.

Last week, Marty the Moth debuted against Prince Puma and did fairly well against the champion. Daivari also paid off Big Ryck to be his hired thug and take out Texano during their match to give him his first win in the company.Johnny Mundo had a sitdown interview with Vampiro and explained just why he tossed Alberto through Cueto’s office window. Speaking of that busted window, one of The Crew went flying through it during the show’s Crew vs. Havoc, Angelico, and Ivelisse trios title ladder match. It featured not only that, but a slew of other crazy things, including an Angelico dropkick to the ladder off the office. It was a pretty good show overall and yet anotherå easy watch for Lucha Underground. This week, Hernandez gets his title shot against Prince Puma and Mil Muertes returns from the grave to fight Fenix in a death match.

This week’s show begins with a recap of Mil Muertes’s life and demise in the casket match before being revived by Katrina. The history of problems between Prince Puma and Hernandez is run down to set up tonight’s match, while Mundo’s attack on Alberto is shown too. Black Lotus arrives at the Temple, but Chavo tells her that Dragon Azteca wants her to be protected. Chavo says his grandfather was there when her parents were killed, and the Guerreros hate the Cuetos as much as she does. Well, that’s a ridiculous thing to add to the story. Striker and Vamp run down tonight’s card while Varmp rocks out to the house band.

Mid-ring, Melissa Santos introduces Aerostar. Striker says that he lost the best of five series to Drago, but wound up still having a job. Mundo comes down, and Santos has a nice silver dress and matching tiara. Striker says the fans appreciate all of the luchadors.

Match 1 – Aerostar vs. Johnny Mundo

Mundo and Aerostar have a little tieup won by Mundo. Mundo grinds his boot into his face with him pinned against the ropes. Striker says that Mundo didn’t just shatter Cueto’s window, but he shattered the glass ceiling. Aero gets a top rope 619 and gets 2 off a springboard splash. Mundo gets him on the apron and stomps his head in. Aerostar prevents a dive by dropkicking the knee and hitting a flip dive. Aerostar gets his knee kicked in while coming into the ring and Mundo hits a neckbreaker over the knee and a Russian legsweep for 2.

Mundo hits an awesome raw liftup slam right out of the Brock or Swager playbook. Sidearm choke by Mundo is locked on, but Aero gets the ropes. Vamp talks about there being a drinking game for whenever he says “brother”, so he says it a bunch. Apron high kick from Aero leads to a springboard double knee strike for 2. Aero prevents the End of the World, so Mundo just beats him up with punches. Aero goes for a tornado DDT mid-ring, but Mundo hits a northern lights suplex into the buckle and gets the End of the World for the win. Mundo going for a more grounded, realistic style is far better for him.

After a break, Vampiro meets with Sexy Star who says she isn’t afraid of Pentagon Jr. We get a montage of arm snapping and Vamp asks if she’s still friends with Super Fly after unmasking him. Vamp says she let Fly get his arm snapped and she says she couldn’t get to him. Vamp says Cueto made Sexy vs. Pentagon Jr. in a submission match. She says she’s got a lot of submissions, and the Sexy Star vs. Pentagon Jr. rivalry will end next week.

Melissa Santos introduces the next match – Hernandez vs. Prince Puma, so the death match will be the main event. Hernandez has new velvet tights and a black top – each adorned with a white crucifix. Puma comes down slapping hands while Konnan greets him at the bottom of the steps.

Hernandez vs. Prince Puma – Lucha Underground Title Match

Puma uses his speed to evade Hernandez, but he eats a flapjack soon enough. Puma gets a sliding dropkick to the knee and a sliding kick to the head. He sends Hernandez to the floor and does his own strut against him. Outside-in shoulderblock is met with an armbar Codebreaker from Puma. Puma gets a darting corner crossbody and kicks him down, but only gets 2. A pair of uppercuts are met with a mid-ring bodyblock by Hernandez. Hernandez chops him in the corner before doing a surfboard with the ropes.

That only gets 2. Some shoulder blocks in the corner lead to a big leaping senton by Hernandez. Hernandez picks him up off a sunset flip attempt, but eats a kick. Cracker Jack sends the champ from one side of the ring to the other and only gets 2. Hernandez gets an over the shoulder backbreaker and a Train Wreck for 2. Puma kicks him off a corner charge, but eats a rock a bye baby powerbomb for 2.  A back elbow prevents a Border Toss, and Puma gets a chair while Konnan distracts Hernandez on the apron. Puma nails him with a chair and dashes into the ring. Puma gets a dive to the floor to prevent a countout.

An apron Border Toss hits Puma just like it did in the tag match where Hernandez officially turned on him. Hernandez can’t get a Border Toss into the balcony area, but Puma runs past him and hits a corkscrew moonsault off of it on the floor! Big dive hits, but only gets 2 while the 630 misses! Inverted torture rack drop gets 2 for Hernandez! Puma goes for a leaping move, but Hernandez plants him with a powerslam. Hernandez’s splash is met with a pair of knees and then a kneeling superkick and more kicks get a 2.9!

This is by far the best match Hernanez has ever had. Puma goes up, but gets taken down. Puma avoids a superplex and lands a series of punches and kicks. He finally sends Hernandez down and gets the 630 for the win! This greatly exceeded any expectation you could really have going in, and Hernandez worked really well with Puma.

Back in the Temple, Melissa Santos announces that the death match is next. Fenix comes out first in flame red and yellow with black trim. Fenix does his ropewalk and spins off into the ring. Mil Muertes and Katrina come down to the ring with three new enforcers. Muertes has traded in his blue-striped gear for black, which looks better.

Main Event – Fenix vs. Mil Muertes – Death Match

A Fenix dive is met with nothing, and Muertes just punches him down. Muertes chops him in the corner as we see the enforcers on the floor. Muertes powerslams Fenix down, but Fenix gets some kicks to the back. He knocks Fenix down as Vamp says Mil scares the shit out of him. Fenix crotches Muertes up top and eats a corner-to-corner kick. Fenix gets an Asai moonsault, but eats a shortarm lariat. Muertes grabs a chair and just clobbers Fenix’s head in. Well, that was needless. Muertes smashes Fenix’s head into the barricades, but Fenix fires back with kicks and dives off the top of them to take Mil down.

Fenix only gets 1 off of that. Fenix gets a series of kicks on the mat and standing, but he is hiptossed to the floor by Muertes. Muertes climbs up top and dives onto Fenix with a crossbody block. That was insane to see given how huge he is. Mil smashes him into the announce table and nails another chairshot to the head before breaking a land-speed record while running up the steps with Fenix in a fireman’s carry.

Muertes and Fenix fight on top of the office, and MUERTES POWERBOMBS HIM THROUGH THE CEILING OF DARIO CUETO’S OFFICE! The ref bangs on the door to be let in and Striker says we’ll go to a break. Wow. That was in-freaking-sane! After the break, we get the first replay in the history of the show and the goons break down the office door. They carry Fenix out much like Mil was carried out, but without the casket. Muertes hits the snap flatliner and scores the win via three count. So then a death match in LU is just a regular match with no DQ apparently. Katrina gives Fenix the lick of death while the heels stand tall. Cueto meets the Crew in his brother’s lair and he forces them to choose a member. They choose Castro, who is put against the bars and seemingly killed as blood splatters the faces of the other two members Well, that got dark pretty quickly. This was yet another really good episode of the show, with two must-watch matches.

  • AAA World Cup report 5-24-15: Rey Mysterio, Alberto El Patron, Johnny Mundo, Matt Hardy, more

    Submitted By Rob Bihari

Show began with technical issues as audio was too low or non-existent and then both announcing crews were talking over each other but it
cleared up before the first match. Aside from that everything went smoothly from an iPPV perspective. The only other technical glitch was the pre-match video screen promos had no audio which was disapointing since some of them looked great, especially the one with ACH.

The show started with everyone around the ring as the Mexican anthem was played & the Mexican army stood on the stage. Felt like a major show immediately.

The English announce team was Vampiro & Striker who did a great job and I personally thought were very entertaining. They were a bit lost at times when it came to the rules but more than made up for it by being witty & Vampiro going crazy. In fact I would go as far as to say if you are on the fence about ordering, Vamp’s commentary alone is worth your iPPV purchase. Trust me.

The Spanish announce team was Hugo Savinovich, Arturo Rivera & Leonardo Riano. I didn’t get to hear them except when their feed bled over into the English version but apparently they were not very good with Riano in particular being racist all night long towards the Japanese wrestlers especially.

Alberto El Patron/Rey Misterio Jr./Myzteziz vs Taiji Ishimori/Atsushi Kotoge/Yoshihiro Takayama

Huge reactions for all the Mexican team as you’d expect. Rey wore his old school tights & ended up going through 3 outfits before the night was done. The Japanese team didn’t do much while on offense before the Mexican team made the comeback. Rey hit a silla dive as Alberto superkicked Takayama on the floor. Great nearfall where Kotoge/Ishimori did their Tomikaze/450 combo on Myzteziz and looked to break him in half. Finish came when Myzteziz hit La Mistica on Kotoge. Huge pop.

Texano Jr./Hijo Del Fantasma/Psycho Clown vs Brian Cage/Moose/ACH

Brian Cage came out with ACH on his shoulders in a cool visual. The Mexican team got a huge reaction with Psycho Clown in particular super over. This was a good back-and-forth match. Crowd went nuts when Psycho Clown took off his belt and started whipping all the Americans and then even his own partners & the cameraman. It built to a dive train spot where ACH did his step-up somersault plancha, Psycho Clown hit a plancha, Fantasma did his tope of death, Cage hit a moonsault & then Moose lept off the ramp leading to the ring with a plancha onto everyone.

Finish was a trainwreck as they were supposed to draw as Cage pinned Texano but the guest NOAH referee didn’t hold up his count at 3 like he was supposed to. Cage was confused, power bombed Texano again & the ref counted 3 even though the time limit was up. He then raised the hands of Cage/Moose/ACH but the announcers kept screaming the time was up. Konnan came out (off camera but audible) and said it’s a draw so they are going to OT. It was all very confusing. In less than 20 seconds Cage pinned Texano with a power bomb into the turnbuckles. Good match until the mess at the end.

Dr. Wagner Jr./Solar I/Blue Demon Jr. vs Kenzo Suzuki/Tiger Mask III/Masamune

This is a recording – Team Mexico got a huge reaction. Wagner was easily the biggest non-Dream Team star here. Tiger Mask did his usual spots with Wagner including the corner bootscrape. They worked the majority of the match together. Solar took out Masamune with a pescado followed by Kenzo taking out Demon with a dive over the top. A bit later Tiger Mask hit a tope suicida at the same time Masamune did a running corkscrew dive. With about 2 minutes to go Demon made Masamune submit to a scorpion deathlock variation which got a big pop.

    Angelico/Mesias/Drew Galloway vs Ken Anderson/Matt Hardy/Johnny Mundo

Easily the best match of the first round. Angelico & Mundo had a kung-fu style exchange to start off. Galloway looked really good working with Mundo & Hardy. Show was already going long even by this point so the crowd began whistling (a sign of boredom in Mexico) but these guys worked hard to get them back into it. Angelico did a wild somersault dive over the  ringpost. Mundo did a 450 splash to the floor. Mesias did a tope suicida. Galloway did a running somersault plancha. Mundo had his finisher set up but Galloway knocked him to the floor and the time ran out. The same two got picked for OT and in just over 2 minutes Mundo was finally able to knock Galloway off the top rope and hit the Fin de Mundo for the win. Crowd applauded everyone afterwards.

Jeff Jarrett came out to join Vampiro/Striker for commentary on both semi-final matches.

Alberto El Patron/Rey Misterio Jr./Myzteziz vs Brian Cage/Moose/ACH

Pretty good match with ACH in particular standing out due to his natural charisma. Alberto/Cage was one of the main focuses. Alberto took out Cage with a tope suicida out of nowhere during the big comeback. They ended up brawling onto the ramp and Cage suplexed Alberto. This came full circle later in the match when Alberto returned the favor to a huge pop. Then ACH attacked Alberto and got suplexed for a bigger pop. Finally the Mexicans all suplexed Moose on the ramp for the biggest pop. This reaction was fantastic and I imagine the wrestlers were happy to be working in front of such an easy crowd.

They did a bunch of nearfalls as time ran down. Key spot ended up being when Rey went for his silla off the apron but hit Myzteziz taking them both out. The ROH/LU team couldn’t finish off Alberto inside the ring. Myzteziz/Rey eventually made it back and Myzteziz did a tope suicida through Rey’s legs which was followed by Rey doing an asai moonsault dive onto everyone. With 40 seconds left Alberto ended up using his armbar to tap out Moose. It should be noted during the match Alberto shoved Jarrett and the two had a brief staredown.

Dr. Wagner Jr./Solar I/Blue Demon Jr. vs Ken Anderson/Matt Hardy/Johnny Mundo

Very clunky match with the obvious style clashes. It was only a 7 minute match but seemed to drag with nobody doing much of anything until Solar & Wagner did dives. The finish was never in doubt as Solar took the Fin de Mundo from Johnny. Crowd was unhappy to see the legends team lose.

After the match, Jarrett seperated the two teams who were arguing on the ramp. The Mexicans challenged the TNA/LU team to get back in the ring which they did but then the Mexicans chased them off. 60 year old Solar almost out ran Ken Anderson.

There was some confusion afterwards with the announcers not knowing if it was time for the finals or 3rd place match and what the rules were. Eventually it was announced the 3rd place match would be automatically sudden death rules.

ACH & Blue Demon Jr. were chosen as the first representatives to go at it. It was clear they were doing a draw as they weren’t rushing and Demon even grabbed a headlock with 30 seconds left in the 5 minute time limit. It was interesting when the time ran out it was ACH who had the visual pinfall.

Next up were Brian Cage & Dr. Wagner Jr. who only went about 2 minutes before in a huge shocker – Cage pinned Wagner clean with an F5. Great booking since Cage is headlining the next AAA major show & whoever talked Wagner into doing a clean job should win booker of the year. Wagner did an injury angle afterwards to save face and had to be stretchered out. Cage ended up posing on the ramp to lots of boos.

Alberto El Patron/Rey Misterio Jr./Myzteziz vs Ken Anderson/Matt Hardy/Johnny Mundo

Myzteziz came out in a cool shirt that looked like he had bodypaint on. Rey wore his formerly yearly traditional comic book outfit along with a giant Aztec headdress. Very very very slow match early on which telegraphed the draw coming up. A couple of okay nearfalls but nothing noteworthy. For the first overtime Myzteziz squared off with Anderson and they had the longest 5 minutes you will ever experience. They did less than nothing. 2OT featured Alberto vs Matt which was much better. Matt got a great nearfall with the Side Effect. Alberto ended up locking on the armbar with seconds left but Matt refused to give up until AFTER the time expired.

So 3OT came down to Rey vs Mundo which was a super hot match with great nearfalls. Rey hit the 619/splash combo which everyone
thought was the finish. Mundo hit the Fin de Mundo which won two matches already but Rey kicked out. Both ended up on top and Rey used
a cool Victory Roll for the win. Crowd was ballistic. During the celebration they showed the trophies being engraved at that very moment
rather than being pre-done which was a nice touch.

Post-show was awards time. Angelico’s dive won Best Move. Dream Team vs Team ROH/LU in the semi-finals got Best Match. Rey Misterio Jr. won MVP. They gave bronze medals to Cage/Moose/ACH for 3rd place & silver medals to Anderson/Hardy/Mundo for 2nd place. Finally the Dream Team got their trophies & celebrated with the Mexican flag as ‘We Are The Champions’ played.

From a pure wrestling standpoint it wasn’t a blowaway show by any means but there was lots of solid wrestling and nothing was actually bad. But from the standpoint of a major event it completely delivered with the big entrances, huge crowd that stayed into it the entire time & all the drama in the finals. Really felt like a spectacle, even moreso than your typical AAA major show. This is the type of thing you could never do in the U.S. unless it was on a much MUCH smaller scale so kudos to AAA for pulling it off. Hopefully they can do it again next year.
