  • TNA Impact Wrestling results: #1 contender’s gauntlet match w/Jeff Hardy, EC3, Matt Hardy, Lashley

    Previously on TNA Impact:

Last week on Impact, Drew Galloway shocked everyone in the Impact Zone when he cashed in his Feast or Fired World Title contract and defeated Matt Hardy for the TNA World Title. This was after Hardy had defended the title against Ethan Carter III and Jeff Hardy in a tripe threat match. Also, “The Destroyer” Lashley bullied Josh Matthews around and then speared The Pope to cement his heel turn.

    Tonight on Impact:

On tonight’s Impact, Drew Galloway makes his first appearance as the new TNA World Champion. Additionally, TNA World Tag Team Champions Beer Money issues an open challenge to any tag team from the past or present for the tag gold.

    Show Recap:

We kick the night off with the new TNA World Champion Drew Galloway making his way to the ring. Josh Matthews and The Pope welcome us to the show and to the Impact Zone. The Pope is back at commentary after being taken out by “The Destroyer” Lashley last week.

Drew talks about the show last week and winning the world title. He makes a proclamation that he wants everyone to look at Impact and at the TNA world title differently. He paraphrases a quote from JFK and says, “don’t ask what the title can do for you, ask what you can do for the world title.” Drew promises to put TNA on the map again.

Matt Hardy, Reby, Tyrus and Rockstar Spud interrupt Drew. Matt’s furious over Drew “stealing” his world title. He says it’s such a crime he should have called the cops. Matt is demanding his return title match tonight. This brings out Matt’s brother, Jeff Hardy. Jeff feels that he deserves a title shot more than Matt. Jeff and Matt argue back and forth when suddenly, Eric Young and Bram attack Jeff outside the ring. Inside the ring, Matt, Tyrus and Spud jump Drew. Bram and EY set up a table on the outside. EY started to set up Jeff for the piledriver off the ring apron through the table and then we cut to commercial.

Back from commercial break, Jeff fights off EY and everyone brawls in the ring. EY sets up to piledrive Drew off the apron through the table when Ethan Carter III runs down and makes the save. EC3 also wants a world title shot. This brings out “Miracle” Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis. Surprise of the night, Mike Bennett also wants a world title shot. TNA President Dixie Carter comes out because there aren’t enough people in this segment. Dixie announces that everyone will participate in a number one contenders gauntlet match later.

-Backstage, Beer Money is walking to the ring trying to guess who will accept the open challenge tonight. They mention past teams from TNA including: L.A.X, Triple X and Pac-Man Jones and Truth. They laugh at the mention of the last team. Storm guesses America’s Most Wanted. Roode points out that’ll be impossible for Storm to face himself.

-Back from commercial, Jeremy Borash is backstage and discuses tonight’s gauntlet match. A tumbler is already set up backstage and J.B brings in Mike Bennett to choose his number for tonight’s gauntlet match.

-Back in the arena, Beer Money makes their way to the ring. Storm rides to the ring on the boozer cruiser again. Robbie E. and Jess Godderz reunite BroMans and accept the open challenge.

TNA Tag Team Champions Beer Money (James Storm & Bobby Roode) vs. BroMans (Jesse Godderz & Robbie E)

BroMans gets the advantage on Beer Money by isolating Storm. James makes the hot tag to Roode who runs wild. Jesse gets the Boston crab on Roode but Storm saves him with a super kick. Beer Money hits the DWI on Robbie E. for the pin and the win.

-Backstage, Decay cuts another creepy promo. Decay challenges Eddie to a street fight.

-Back from commercial and in the back, J.B welcomes us back but EY and Bram interrupt him. They pick their numbers and suddenly Willow (Jeff Hardy’s alter ego) appears and disappears. EY notices and freaks out.

-Eddie Edwards makes his way down to the ring and grabs the mic. He calls out any member of Decay for a fight.

Street Fight: Eddie Edwards vs. Crazy Steve w/Decay (Abyss and Rosemary)

As Decay make their way to the ring Eddie Edwards runs out and brawls with Crazy Steve on the ramp. Crazy Steve gets the advantage after tripping Eddie up on the steel steps. Steve and Rosemary throw several chairs into the ring. Steve sets up a chair in each corner of the ring. Eddie turns things around on Steve and ends up throwing him head first into each chair. Steve and Rosemary collide and Eddie rolls up Crazy Steve for the three count.

-Backstage, Maria Kanellis cuts a prom on Knockouts champ Gail Kim. She promise that the action she going to take next is going to change the Knockouts division.

-Back from commercial, Dixie Carter is talking to “The Destroyer” Lashley backstage. She mentions that Lashley is lucky to only get a fine for attacking Josh Matthews. She gives Lashley what he wants but neither mention exactly that is.

-Jeff Hardy and EC3 both cut a promo setting up tonight’s main event. They both pick their numbers and seem happy with what they chose.

TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim vs. “The First Lady of Professional Wrestling” Maria Kanellis

This match doesn’t end up happening. Gail Kim and Maria Kanellis make their way to the ring. Maria grabs the mic and brings out The Dollhouse. Maria tells The Dollhouse that they all have so much potential but lacked the proper leadership. She tells them to break up The Dollhouse and become women. Maria went to TNA management and asked them if she could give her title shot to a member of The Dollhouse. Maria orders The Dollhouse to compete in a triple threat. They argue with Maria as we cut to commercial.

Jade vs. Marti Bell vs. Rebel

Back from commercial and the match is in progress. Maria joins Josh and The Pope on commentary. She’s giving up her title shot at Gail Kim to the winner of this match. Apparently, The Dollhouse is no more and breaking up. The crowd is a bit dead for this match. Jade and Marti double-team Rebel. Both try to pin her and use a double submission on her. They argue about who should beat Rebel. Rebel makes a come back against both.

On commentary, Maria promises to change the Knockouts Division. Pope mentions that he has Maria’s Playboy. Marti powerbombs Rebel, who hits a superplex on Jade off the top rope. Jade pins both Marti Bell and Rebel to win the match to become the number one contender for the TNA title.

-In the back, Matt Hardy, Tyrus and Spud choose their numbers for the main event. Matt went first and didn’t like his number. Matt then looked at Spud’s number and switched with Spud.

-Back from commercial, Grado and Mahabali Shera discuss the party they’re going to have next week to celebrate Grado getting his job back with TNA. Shera mentions that Odarg The Great owes him fifty dollars. Grado says Odarg owes him fifty-five dollars. Apparently, Shera is the only person not to know Grado and Odarg are the same person despite being Grado/Odarg’s only friend.

-Next we get a flashback from last week of the closing moments of the triple threat title match and Drew Galloway winning the World title.

-TNA World Champion Drew Galloway comes down to the ring again. He mentions that there’s going to be “no more talking” and more action from now on. “The Destroyer” Lashley makes his way down to the ring. Lashley has a brief stare down with The Pope. Josh thanks Pope for saving him last week. Lashley takes the mic and the crowd chants, “no more talking”. They argue and Lashley announces that Dixie has agreed to put him in the gauntlet match. Drew is tired of the talking and wants to fight Lashley. Suddenly, the lights go out and EC3 is the second entrant in the match.

Gauntlet Match: “The Destroyer” Lashley, Ethan Carter III, Rockstar Spud, “Miracle” Mike Bennett, Eric Young, Tyrus, Bram, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy

The match has the same format as The Royal Rumble. EC3 and Lashley are the first two entrants and start the match off. Number 3 is Rockstar Spud and EC3 beats him all over the ring. Lashley attacks EC3 from behind. Spud and Lashley double-team EC3. Number 4 is Mike Bennett. Lashley stares down Bennett but Spud convinces Lashley that all three should work together which they do. The next entrant is Eric Young who attacks everyone. Tyrus is the next entrant and as he makes his way to the ring, EC3 tosses Spud out of the ring for the first elimination.

Back from commercial, Bram is now in the match as Lashley runs wild and knocks everyone down. Lashley eliminates Tyrus after hitting the spear. EY and Bram try to double team Lashley but Lashley is able to eliminate both. As Lashley poses, The Pope leaves commentary and eliminates Lashley. The Pope and Lashley fight to the back. Matt Hardy is the next entrant and he exchanges shots with EC3 right away. Matt and Bennett double-team EC3. Jeff Hardy is the final entrant and runs wild attacking everyone in sight.

We’re down to the final four, which are EC3, Mike Bennett, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy. Bennett charges EC3 who drops down and Bennett goes to the outside for the elimination. Bennett then helps Matt Hardy eliminate EC3. The final two are Matt and Jeff Hardy. They exchange shots back and forth. The crowd is solidly behind Jeff. Matt tosses Jeff over the top but he hangs on. Jeff then back drops Matt over the top rope and to the outside to win the match.

Post match, Jeff celebrates in the ring and TNA Champion Drew Galloway stands on the ramp. They have a stare down to end the show.

    Next Week on Impact:

Next week, Drew Galloway has his firs title defense against “The Enigma” Jeff Hardy.

  • WWE Total Divas: Total Divastation Episode 10

    Submitted by Kevin LaRose

    *****

New York, NY. A boy gives the Bella’s some flowers. He shows them a Cena lunch box with a Nikki Bella action figure inside that he takes with him everywhere.

Now they are in Denver. Paige and Fox meet a fan at a coffee shop. It’s not a nice restaurant; it’s a little place to get to-go coffee. No one hangs out there. They go to a park with a fan. He lives in Portland, OR. He wants Paige to help him come out as a gay man to his family. He is afraid that they won’t accept him. He tells Paige that he gets his strength from her. Fox and Paige agree to go to his house when he comes out to his family.

Now in Phoenix, going from town to town, we have to move fast. We have a lot of story to get in to just one tiny hour. Nattie is looking at at an app and she tells Mandy about her new cat. Nattie is going on a big family jet-skiing vacation. Mandy complains that she never had a family vacation. Nattie invites Mandy’s family on her vacation. Then she freaks out because she realizes how dumb that was.

Brie is stoked because she is wrestling in her home town. Everyone loves her and she wins. She hugs her brother JJ backstage. Nikki is bummed because she can’t go to Sedona. In Sedona, Brie, Bryan, and their friends and family, are also going on a different sort of vacation, a cleansing vacation. JJ is upset because he doesn’t want to do everything that Bryan wants to do. The Bellas talk about their breasts.

Eva and Mandy hug an Uso. Carrano wants to get some creative stuff going for them, get them on Mania to fight for the Diva’s title, and share some wacky ideas for Eva. They want her to dye her hair blonde. We saw what happened last time they asked her to go blonde. She went AWOL.

Ontario, California. Paige is backstage, talking to some Divas about the promise she made to go to that fan’s house to help him come out to his parents. Renee Young tells her it’s a little weird that she agreed to that. Everyone tells her she is going too far. They tell her it’s a bad idea, even Nattie.

Back in Phoenix, Bryan tells everyone on the way to the vacation that they are going to visit a reincarnated Buddha, a teepee temple, and then a stupa, “which is like a sacred place.” Brie wants lunch. He tells them there will be no alcohol. This isn’t going to end well.

In Colorado Springs, Nattie walks up to Fox and tells her about the vacation with Mandy. She just learned Mandy is coming with fifteen people. R-Truth hugs Mandy and Eva. They tell him about their tag team. R-Truth wants them to be his dancers.

Meanwhile, in Sedona. Bryan and friends pull up to a sweet house with a meditation room, as Dean Ambrose and Renee Young show up. Ambrose has a hand drum. Bryan makes a healthy lunch. Everyone is pissed. They don’t want to eat healthy. Bryan tells Brie that she never cries. Bryan cries all the time.

Back in Colorado Springs, Paige and Fox are in a park. The entire WWE Total Divas universe has been turned on its head. Everyone is going on weird vacations, going to strange family houses, and sitting in small parks and no one is eating at any nice restaurants! Paige tells Fox that everyone said it was weird that they were going to that fan’s house. Fox wants to go. Paige decides to call him and tell him no. She chickens out when they hear his mom had a heart attack. Fox is happy because what’s the worst that can happen? I don’t know, Fox, how about two incompetent strangers showing up with a camera crew to a random and combustible family’s home, during one of the most sensitive conversations they’ve ever had?

In Tampa, Nattie smells her cat. She tells TJ about Mandy. Nattie tries to quote Maya Angelou. She googles Maya Angelou. TJ is saying funny things. Too bad you are reading this instead of watching, because there is no way possible to convey via the written word how he just interacted with his wife. He’s pretty chill about all of it in the end.

Brie and friends show up to this place and they go into a teepee with this really excited man in a cowboy hat. They do meditation. Everyone hates it except Brie and Bryan. Ambrose is pissed. The guy blows a giant horn in Bryan’s face. Everyone laughs. Everything I would have never thought would happen on this show is happening tonight.

Finally some semblance of order, as Mandy and Eva walk into a very nice restaurant called Boca. It’s got nice lighting, and a surprising feature… a tree growing in the middle of the restaurant! A fan tells Eva how inspiring she is. No one knows who Mandy is. Mandy wants Eva to go blonde. Mandy, if you keep talking about Eva going blonde then you are already dead.

Bryan is pissed that everyone made an unhealthy dinner. Bryan said that everyone agreed to do as he said because he paid for everything. Bryan is pissed that everyone is drinking. He gives them the business. Ambrose, shirt reading “I’m just here for the beer,” tells everyone he thinks they should drink. They drink. Bryan chooses not to participate in their toast and tells them such.

In Portland, Paige and Fox pull up to an amazing bed and breakfast. Fox says something stupid and they laugh. Paige asks the proprietor if he is gay. He is. He tells them that coming out to his dad was the hardest thing he’s ever done.

Back in Sedona, Bryan makes a joke then says he’s going to a Buddhist monument to meditate. Everyone says they aren’t going. Bryan says whatever. Brie doesn’t want to go, and Bryan is pissed.

Meanwhile at some dump of a bar in Portland, Paige and Fox are with the fan, and they realize they really aren’t qualified to actually help him.

In Orlando, Mandy and Eva talk to Sara and Sarah about their tag team. Eva and Mandy don’t really know anything about tag teams, especially Mandy. Sara tells Eva privately that she is way ahead of Mandy and Eva doesn’t need to change a thing.

Back in Sedona, everyone is in the hot tub. Dean Ambrose jumps in the pool. Bryan is sulking in bed. Brie tries to get Bryan to come to the tub. Bryan wants Brie to go to bed. Bryan surprises everyone and comes out in a cool bathing suit and judges a jumping contest. He has a really good time.

In Jacksonville, Eva and Mandy are at Tribute to the Troops. Eva and Nattie go to the mess hall. This looks nothing like the restaurants at which they usually dine. Eva tells Nattie about Mandy. Nattie tells her not to sweat Mandy.

Back in Portland, Paige, Fox and the fan pull up to his house. Everyone is un-phased by the cameras. Some tense piano music plays and he tells them he’s gay. Everyone is super chill with it, and there was really no issue at all. Everyone hugs.

In Orlando, Eva is fighting Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship. 2016 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Michael Hayes, in a hat no human should wear, stares at Eva and tells her she’s great. She wrestles and loses. Everyone in the crowd hates her and she loves it. She thinks that she’s entertaining. Mandy hugs Eva. Eva tells Mandy to get lost. Mandy acts cool and walks away.

Guess we must wait to find out what happens on Nattie’s vacation.

  • WWE Smackdown Spoilers: A.J. Styles vs Tyler Breeze, Roman Reigns vs Bubba Ray Dudley

Sasha Banks beat Charlotte in a non-title match with a roll-up.  Becky Lynch attacked Charlotte after the match.

Sheamus beat Kofi Kingston with the Brogue kick.

    The Usos beat The Ascension

Sami Zayn & Dolph Ziggler beat The Miz & Kevin Owens.  After the match, everyone from the ladder match got in a brawl, which naturally included ladders.  Zack Ryder climbed to the top of the ladder.

Roman Reigns no contest Bubba Ray Dudley.  The crowd cheered Reigns, believe it or not.

    A.J. Styles beat Tyler Breeze

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman were out doing an interview. The Wyatt Family came out.  Lesnar & Dean Ambrose worked together in fighting The Wyatt Family.  Lesnar and Ambrose went at it after and the show ended with Lesnar leaving Ambrose laying.

Another key note is that during Main Event, in a Naomi vs. Paige match, Tamina, Lana, Natalya, Fox, Summer Rae and Emma all got involved.  Summer Rae and Emma were both on the heel side.  So it would appear there will be a 5th babyface to be announced and a ten person match with Brie Bella on the face side and another person.

  • New York State Assembly legalizes MMA

After hours of debating, the bill to legalize mixed martial arts and put it under the auspices of the New York State Athletic Commission passed the state assembly by a 113-25 vote.

The bill had already passed the state senate, which means it goes to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to sign, and UFC is expected to run its first event in Madison Square Garden toward the latter part of this year.

New York had been the lone holdout in UFC’s attempt to get the sport legalized nationwide. The bill had passed the state senate for seven straight years, but it had been blocked from even being voted on in the assembly.

UFC officials believed they had far more than enough votes last year, but time ran out in the session and once again, they could never get the legislation voted on.

There were long impassioned pleas on both sides, with the few dissenters talking about everything from homophobia, domestic violence, violence in society to the condition of Muhammad Ali, to the idea Madison Square Garden should be for team sports.

  • RAW Ratings stagnant as the Road to WrestleMania marches on

Less than two weeks before the “biggest WrestleMania of all time”, RAW’s ratings continue to  stagnate. The show started weak but the audience remained remarkably consistent throughout  the 3 hour broadcast, with a main event of Dean Ambrose facing Braun Strowman.

The average viewership was 3.4 million viewers, down about 2% from last week. It was down 19% from the same week last year but that’s not a fair comparison as it was the go-home show to  Mania, which was held a week earlier in 2015. Comparing to the week prior to the go-home show last year, Monday’s show was down 13% as RAW continues to be  down about 10% year over year.

After last week’s show saw the third hour as the highest rated  of the show, things returned to normal this week as Hour 3 was down slightly from the previous 2 hours, which were almost identical.

RAW was just underneath The O’Reilly Factor as  the most watched show on cable for the night as the FOX News show did 3,423,000 viewers. In the 18-49 ratings, RAW’s 3 hours were #2,3 and 4 on the night behind VH1’s Love and Hip Hop.

Here are viewership numbers for all 3 hours:

    Hour 1 – 3,466,000

    Hour 2 – 3,416,000

    Hour 3 – 3,317,000

  • Live Video: New York State Assembly hearing on legalization of MMA

The vote in the New York assembly regarding MMA being legalized, that is expected to pass, is taking place right now.  You can watch live via the video link below.  The hearing has been a circus so far with every ignorant statement about MMA imaginable being made.

If it passes, the tentative plan would be to run a big show in November in Madison Square Garden.

UFC had hoped for it to pass for years now, and several times it likely would have, but it was blocked from going to a vote for a number of reasons.  Amazingly, amateur mixed martial arts is legal in New York but professional mixed martial arts is not.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez talked about this situation in detail in last night’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.
